DAWS Save Mission

Recommended Posts

I didn't ask you to do not use SLmod, but to do a test whitout it to understand if the issue is due to SLmod behaviour or not. If the issue is from SLmod, there is nothing more I can do. You might use the server password protected once with only you having the password if you want to test it as a client: I can't help you whitout testing and proper instruments (like the mission file)

The thing is, helicopters are different from planes. An airplane by it's nature wants to fly, and if not interfered with too strongly by unusual events or by a deliberately incompetent pilot, it will fly. A helicopter does not want to fly. It is maintained in the air by a variety of forces in opposition to each other, and if there is any disturbance in this delicate balance the helicopter stops flying; immediately and disastrously.

Just had another breaking problem, after that server crashed.

Have a look. SLMOD was still enabled.

Took server is down for scenario maintenance. The only good tests come with good number of randomly coming in and out clients doing things, destroying groups, new groups spawning etc... otherwise there's no true test. Beforehand I have had same version with SLMOD doing save routine fine for like first day or something, now it just pauses with different errors and nothing critical was changed in the mission.

test on scripts, imho, have to be made by steps to understand if the issue is code issue or situation issue cause many code issue should be visible even with a single client situation, more if they are linked to main function going to work. Then, when the simple bug code are fixed, you can enhance the test environment. Sadly your screens say me almost nothing, cause I need the dcs.log file and the mission as I said before... I can't even know if those second issue is related to the condition that created the first one or not.

It's like you are thinking as a server admin whose issues are often related to miz file performance/complexity. This is (much probably) not the case: having a complex and busy test environment will surely enhance the probability to see an issue, but it will also lower MY (other maybe can do better) probability to isolate and understand it.

I repeat: I can't help whitout the requested information and local testing of your specific case. If you think that my asking are not feasible or not sufficient for a proper testing, please ask someone else to resolve the issue: Save Mission code is extremely simple cause I'm not a programmer and I can't optimize nothing: I bet almost everyone who can code here would be able to see the same thing that I see.

I do understand all that, but given the circumstances of newly introduced DCSW bugs, these even break behavior in other scripts, and my limited time as well I need to move on developing scenario forward and things will keep changing per my side. As for DAWS without SLMOD, still issues with SLMOD off, so I don't think I can help with debugging DAWS knowing this now. I'll try it again some other time, will focus now on objective based 6h length rotating scenario. Sorry to disappoint.

that is a relevant information. When you will be able to send the dcs.log file I'm sure that I will have a good hint about where to start about this.

FYI, i'm currently chasing down a crash. I've traced it to Ranger79 units. The DAWS save version I made last night woudl crash exactly 92 seocnds into the mission, reproduced every time until I removed Ranger 79. I would have feedback to this thread more but I took some months off from DCS Chromium. Wil be testing the save with dynamic units today, it wasnt workign last night which is a shame, but possibly part of the Ranger 79 issue. (no SLMOD)

hmm I cannot get the spawned units to save. my test is using CTLD I drop a stinger group and an infantry group with stingers, press save and when I open the mission the mission is saved at the right time but those units are not present. How shoudl I troubleshoot this? Performance during save is much improved!

Have you enabled the options for tracking infantry units? By default those are not tracked, and it will have effect on infatry, manpads and mortars.

PS: nothing has changed in performace and calculations, so those improvements are probably due to something else.

It could be due to ctld methods of cloning Groups.

As said...

I got a problem with units created by Clone in Zone mist function. Once solved I'll post the update.

I'm waiting an official release of MIST to update the download version. In the meantime, here attached you can find a working version of DAWS Save Mission for 1.5.4 stable release that I'm able to post thanks to the extremely fast support of Grimes.

No manual included but no significant modification also :)

So... update is out at the same download page and should work (almost) perfectly in DCSW 1.5.4. Multiple test has been done. I was holding the update for 2 main reason:

- I'm working on a better version, with options in the options page and few more improvements, like a module (but it's not a module!);

- There is a bug that it's there from... always I believe. Static dead objects won't be created for spawned units & statics.

Since those two thinks will take a lot of time to be fixed and polished... I decided to release a working version exactly like the last one.

How do you set this up so that is saves the file, then if the server crashes or restarts on the same file name, it grabs the newest one.

When I try this, it cant open the mission file to overwrite it since the mission is using the file at the time. Trying to have an automated recovery situation (if the mission crashes, it restarts and loads the mission automatically through a macro script)
