It isn't for sale on steam yet. I don't think any DCS modules are available on steam as pre-order, you must wait for official release to buy there.

ok thanks for answering my question.

Are you absolutely sure about this? ....This $hit happens with many other games as well. Steam is nothing more than brainless humanless machine making money driven by iPod. In this days game devs try to push piracy away ...from the dark side of the force...

Convert to standalone, and you can buy it now, its on preorder on ED shop. It should be out on standalone by December according to official statements.

U sure about that? Thought only preorders will get to play the beta in December. Probably the steam guys have to wait a bit more to get their hands on this little machine ^^

I think what the OP is referring to is:

Pre-order = buy now and wait

Stand Alone = purchase after beta release and get immediate access

No one knows when the Mirage will make it onto Steam just yet.

If I were to pre-order the M-2000C now, would I be able to combine it with Steam DCS World now or later?

And the beta access is available now isn't it?

While Steam keys work with both the Steam and ED version of DCS, ED keys only work with the ED version. So no, you won't able to use a M-2000C key bought on the ED website in the Steam version later.

IMO it doesn't make a lot of sense to use the Steam version since with the ED version you can benefit from sales on both Steam and the ED website. And no middleman means probably more money for ED and partners. ;)

And no, the M-2000C hasn't been released as beta yet.

Why use Steam for DCS anyway? I never use third party software if I can avoid it and with the delayed DCS beta releases on Steam it makes even less sense.

Current specs: Windows 10 Home 64bit, i5-9600K @ 3.7 Ghz, 32GB DDR4 RAM, 1TB Samsung EVO 860 M.2 SSD, GAINWARD RTX2060 6GB, Oculus Rift S, MS FFB2 Sidewinder + Warthog Throttle Quadrant, Saitek Pro rudder pedals.

Here is a great analogy - Steam - Victorian, runs on coal - gets you there eventually. DCS stand alone - 21st Century - runs on electricity - already there.

The reason the licenses only work one way is because Steam want to take their cut. They prevent ED licenses working so you have to buy everything through their system and they take a percentage.

So why on earth would anyone buy direct from the manufacturers when they could go through a third party middle man instead? Yeah, it has me totally stumped!

Wow :( That's kind of annoying actually.

Okay, you say that the Steam version works with both clients, right? So what would stop me from switching to the ED standalone version using the Steam keys? Would that work okay?

I've already invested quite a bit of money in the Steam version. I wish I had known about this earlier. :(

Nothing. It works fine.

Steam actually wins since you won't be using their bandwidth but you paid them already.

Excellent! I think I know what I'll be doing today then.

Although, what about the key activation thing? Have that limited number always kind of worried me, and I assume doing this would count as another activation on them.

I know I still have a few activations left, but what happens if you were to run out?

Just remove the Steam versions and install from ED. Your activations are in your registry and your products will still be using the activation you last used.
