Can someone explain to me why I should be excited about this map? Is it purely for Red Flag type missions? Online Multiplayer?

This is not a criticism, but it just seems an odd one to pursue compared to the other possible maps that could've been developed to suite the likes of the F86/Mig15 and the WW2 era aircraft.

Cheers,

SMan

Im just curious and really no offense, but why do you want to stay with steam at any costs? If you really want the NTTR pre purchased and other discounts and so on, why don't you just switch to the stand alone DCS?? You can use all your purchases from steam in a standalone DCS.
In the past I use stand alone DCS before switching to Steam version. The reason being that the download speed from ED server is really bad here in Thailand. A download speed from ED usually stay around 20-40 KB/s, on some day if I were lucky enough I can get around 200 KB/s. While with Steam version I can get up to 2.4 MB/s.

The speed of the DCS servers significantly increased in speed (for me in South Australia) about 9-12 months ago (can't quite remember when). However, before this speed increase I use to use a torrent download rather than one of the specific FTP mirrors. Like you it was too slow. These torrent files downloaded at quite reasonable speeds. I see the torrent files are still listed there underneath each of the the FTP list for DCSW and each modules. You could give them a try.

But the speed issue is with the auto-update.

When everybody autoupdates! Sure very logic!:megalol:

I'm sure most will go for a clean install since this is a major update. With that in mind the torrent download will be a fast option. Like many, depending on your ISP, the autoupdater has been pretty damned good for some time now.

I will be doing a clean install, just hate to deactivate and reactivate. I love this sim so much but really hate starforce....

If we have the open beta installed now and we just go for the update push...what are we generally talking about with regards to left over artifacts? Is is really an issue that takes much space or is it an issue of clutter that may affect execution? There has to be a good reason for the preference of a clean install.

Maybe I'll give them a try. Thanks for the info.

Download speeds have been great for the last couple of years for me

Used to be 30-50kb/s and now 800-900kb/s, which is the same as I get from steam.

ah yes. Well done to ED on this. I used to avoid updating like the plague (4kbps ). the other day I decided to download all the other modules that I'd purchased but not downloaded (eg p51, me109, fw190) and it downloaded at 1.2mbps!!

I don't know how they did it but I'm very impressed.

C'mon ED lets have at the NTTR map. I want to :joystick:

I get great download speeds from the autoupdater, in average about 1.2 Mb/s.

(Please don't confuse Mb/s with Mbps, they are NOT the same thing).

Actually, they are exactly the same.

It is MB/s / MBps and Mb/s / Mbps that are different.

You should have said 1.2MB/s

Sorry to burst your bubble, but they said the new explosion effects were not going to be available right at release.

But it will be interesting to see if there is an FPS increase anyways.

exactly. :) I always loved the 97 effect and for the most part, was ok with its fps. But the 87 was the more problematic one with major stuttering...so looking forward to see how it will go. :)

Really? Just uninstall and install the new version and I don't have to reactivate?
