Fresh install WIN10... Now no sound in DCS

Ok so I did a fresh install of Windows 10 and all seems ok.. Sound works fine..

But when I tried to run DCS from my secondary drive it asked for 900 activations (well it seemed like 900 of them.. One for every module I won.) Then it went into thew module and the Black Shark is running and the graphics look fine, but no sound..

Clearly I need to download something for sound like I had to do for Visual basic 2012 but no idea what I need.

Any ideas?

Yeah....Windows 10 seem a little buggy at this point. It keeps making me activate my antivirus software every time my computer boots up. Also some other software too.

As far as sound......I know that it took some time to update all the drivers for my hardware also. Had to go up a few times to update my video drivers. Maybe updating your sound card driver might help. My Nvidia card ran my rig just fine but would bomb on DCS until I finally got it updated.

Reinstall and update the Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 libraries.

Install the x86 on a 32bit OS.

Install both the x86 + x64 versions on a 64bit OS.

Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 Redistributable Package (x86): http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/downl...s.aspx?id=5555

Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 Redistributable Package (x64): http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/downl....aspx?id=14632

Now run Windows Update - updating the C++ may be required. Reboot if required.

Force a reinstall of DirectX.

Well I'll try to help you but info is sketchy.

Let's start at the beginning.

You're running DCS, do you have sound at the opening splash screen?

Nope as stated, sound works fine in Windows by itself and with other apps, but NOTHING at all anywhere within DCS..

And remember that mine is a FRESH install of Windows using an existing install of DCS...

FWIW, I have no sound in mine right now, I suspect its a driver issue, as the volume panel shows sound in the audio mixer, just not hearing it. Likely a device mapping issue, prolly toy with it tonight.

as I went to stream Xbox One and couldnt get sound in my headphones, But when I turned on my SoundBar the audio was coming through that instead (one uses 3.5mm the sounf bar uses optical spdif).

Thanks to everyone for the VERY quick responses!

Looks like BIGNEWY gets the attaboy as his suggestion of loading DirectX again was the ticket! So Skate, reload DirectX and you should be good to go.

As an FYI, the other suggested reloads for

Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 Redistributable Package x86 and x64 do not work with Windows 10 as apparently WIN10 comes with newer versions already.. .

Thanks folks. THAT was quick!

Even when you now have sound, the previous win10 version before final had bug that it used a 24bit sound mode instead 16bit and it caused no sound to be heard.

So going volume config and changing it lower resolved the problem. Since then update should have made it default.

It also seems to get confused as to what Audio Device should be your default. I had to manually reset my Default 5.1 Speakers as Win10 made the HDMI Default.

This too^^

For some games, Win10 was outputting over HDMI to my monitor instead of 3.5 Jacks or Optical SPDIF.

Sound died on my Win 8.1 install. I reinstalled DirectX per BigNewy's recommendation too and got sound back.

Thanks!!
