D-Scythe
Can someone explain to me why popping flares before an enemy shoots is a smart thing? What is the difference between chaff and flares and in what situations would i use one or the other? Sorry for the noobish question i usually avoid missiles fine but still just wondering. In my experience, flares work best in LOMAC after a bit of separation between the decoy and target. I don't think releasing even 60 flares simultaneously one second before impact would help decoy an incoming missile. If your timing is right, the separation between you and your decoys would already be there when the missile is launched. Not much, but it does give you a few precious seconds head start. Furthermore, releasing flares before hand may also cause your enemy to mistarget your flare instead of you before the missile is launched.
Pilotasso
Preventive flare drop is a real life practice. There a a few videos showing how horribly missiles can miss with this techninque. Reaper-6
That sounds very interesting - I can't seem to find anything here on this forum regarding online exploits. Can you please tell me more? There are some very, very skilled pilots online, who has used hours, days and months of training to get at their current level of überness. I don't have that time, so I often get owned online, but I think it's more due to my lack of skills combined with their great skills than exploiting game flaws. Well Spoken Sir. Hair on the wall... dynamocl
To answer your question Wedge, very simply speaking: Flares are hot, and as such may make the incoming infra red go after the flare instead of your hot engines. Chaff are small strips of metal (or metal fibres) and confuse/scatter radar returns. Hence they confuse radar homing missiles. This is very basicly speaking, but that is generally the case. Flares to decoy IR missiles, chaff to decoy radar homing missiles.

Try flying around about 10 feet off the deck, fly anywhere close to perpendicular to your bandit, then spam all your missiles and turn tail and run without supporting your missiles with radar ... I garauntee that you're score will go up .. and I think these qualify as weaknesses .. not skills ! This is what you will find a good percentage of the time on the servers through hyperlobby. Reaper-6
Gunja, thx for the props. Xealot, Maciver, Here’s a new upload http://www.filefactory.com/?9df8d6 (248Mb), I’m not sure what “hoops” FileFactory makes you jump thru to get it thou. If you still run L.O. 1.02 you can get the track from Check-six and pick thru it. I haven’t really messed with my (joke) websight for a long time, google just asked for a sight to post a vid.. The video was rendered thru L.O.’s avi, and pushed thru WMM on a P4 1.4 w/Fx5200, so don’t expect too much. Also one of the best Video/Training/Rus I ever saw was from TeamBSR, “F-Pole”. Not sure where you could get it. But it’s a must have as a Russian beginner. Maybe someone here will hook you up. Like Red, IRONHANDS Tutorials (Trk ‘s) took me for the dirt nap even when running compatible versions, with his voice reassuring me as I salted the cockpit dash for impact. :) But I believe he has begun to put them all into “movie” form. Which has kind of been a hind sight improvised adjustment of the community, as we all believed at first tracks would be playable from version to version. Hair on the wall... Blood in the street... The funny thing is after aircraft crash, Mr Ironhand is still explanning. Based on your description, it sounds like you're starting them in the Mission Editor by clicking the FLY button. If you do this, you are flying the mission, not me. To start a track in the Mission Editor you need to either: 1) select 'Play track' from the FLIGHT submenu or 2) press the CTRL-P key combination. The other way to start a track is through the SHOW menu. The difference is that you can't alter the views when watching a track through SHOW, while you can alter views through the Mission Editor. Hope this is actually your problem. I think it is, though, because mismatched versions don't usually cause the aircraft to crash right at the start. Brit_Radar_Dude
Yeah what Reaper-6 said - if you can find 199th's F-Pole movie, it is the excellent! But be sure to check out IronHand's site for recent movies of his training tracks, eg ALAMO versus AMRAAM or R-27ER VS AIM-120: Winning the SARH vs ARH Duel or if you have v1.02 then check out Clipped Eagles. GGTharos
It's B) and it affects _ALL_ missiles. As mentioned on these forums before, this is because the seeker 'senses' what's in it's FoV only 10 times every second. Decreasing this interval would cause a lot of lag when missiles would start homing.
