The Ultimate Argument Campaign - DLC for Su27

Recommended Posts

I can't help thinking it's a mistake !

Why make a payware campaign for the Su27 ? Why did they (ED etc) not make a campaign for the Su27 and sell it with the Su27 module as a package?. It just doesn't make marketing sense to me.

I am sure they are aware of AI short comings, but it wont be a couple simple fixes I am sure, more of a massive upgrade, but they have their hands full right now :)

I know :smartass:

Using the missile mod I was able to complete the first mission and even kept my wingman alive and brought him back to Mozdok.

Because of the pricepoint. Some people prefer cheaper pieces of products to buy rather than bundles. The FC3 product is more attractive at $10 than at $20. Not to mention, it is a good indication that ED / third parties can release high quality campaigns at a premium...which is fair for the amount of effort required to produce these things.

Quick question: Just finished mission 4 (bombing a target), and I was wondering if the Ctrl-V option (Salvo Mode) works in the Su-27? I was pickling bombs one at a time, but Salvo Mode would be nice to have. Any idea?

I'm surprised at all of the complaining about this, I think it's a great idea. Lets be honest, FC3 is great value already and has received some huge updates in the form of the F-15c and Su-27 flight models. I don't mind paying a few dollars for a decent campaign personally (Is this decent? Haven't seen anything of it)

That said, I rarely fly the Flanker and am yet to really learn it properly, If they put one of these out for the F-15c I'll be all over it.

I also bought it and only have had time to complete 2 missions. I am very positive about Campaign dlc and I dont see any objections in the way they are doing it now. For me not enough of these quality campaigns can be released.

Regarding some of the issues reported:

-Missiles: I have no issues with missiles, in mission 2 I was able to down 5 enemy aircraft. 3 fixed wing and a helo with missiles and 1 helo with guns.

-Wingman Fuel: Your wingman will always try to stay in formation . So consider this when choosing your throttle setting. If you fly full military right after take-off of course he is going into afterburner otherwise he will never keep up. Always consider your wingman when maneuvring. That way he will make it home. Probably the people who regularly fly online already do this automatically.

I'm 11 missions into the campaign and already got more than my money's worth. Missions are varied and not so hard as to become frustrating, I think they got the balance just right.

Now, let's get a also a "blue" campaign, It would be the perfect excuse to learn the F-15! :-)

Best regards,

Please, when designing missions that require a fighter to escort a transport or AWACS please set the heavy to fly at fast enough speeds so the Su-27 isn't hanging in the air at 9000m in order to stay in formation. The AWACS is barely flying too.

This is the AWACS escort mission.

well.. sometimes the a/c to be escorted CAN"T fly faster

in that case, i would recommend flying a weaving or zig-zag pattern to keep your airspeed up while maintaining a slower total forward speed (ie.. WWII fighters escorting bombers at high alt)

for AI aircraft.. well, they'll just have to deal with it : /

actually shepski at 9k meters I don't believe the AWACs can actually fly any faster.

The AWACS once leveled off at 9000m was flying at 810 TAS then after crossing a waypoint started to slow down to 510 then sped up at another then slowed back down to 480. The waypoint speed was probably left at default rather than increased by the mission builder.

480 km/h TAS is about 300 km/h IAS which is a landing approach speed not a cruise speed even for a A-50 at high altitude.

Anyway... got 2 kills was told to RTB so RTB and landed but failed the mission. Have no idea why.

Edit... Tried again and flew past the airport to the return waypoint before turning final and got the success message after landing.

lol @ SDsc0rch your comment was hidden 1 page over :P

500 true airspeed is plenty fast for Su-27 to hang in there though.

Sure it can fly at 500 TAS which is just under 10 degrees AOA but it is not efficient whatsoever and I could hear my wingman in AB a lot trying to stay with me because of all the drag.

Cruise speed for the A-50 should be at least .70 mach at altitude.

  • 2 weeks later...

you are flying 840 kph TAS - not KTAS

840 kph TAS = 516 mph TAS

840 kph @ 8920 m = 585 kph IAS ( which should be max speed for an A-50)

Your escort speed of 840 kph TAS is 430 kph above estimated(!) stall-speed (clean config) of the Su-27. You should handle this with ease.

I was happy it was cruising at 830. This a proper cruise speed. My issue is with it cruising at 480 which is much too slow at that altitudes.

I found out there is an error in the english Su-27 cockpit mod as it under reads the correct mach number so .6 mach was incorrect as stated above.

Please elaborate upon the 3 activations. Does this mean that you have to use an activation every time you finish the campaign? Are we renting campaigns now? So if my hard drive crashes and I have to reinstall DCS, will I have to use up an activation?

If you're telling me that after a person purchases the campaign, he or she can only play it a limited number of times, that's just weak sauce, man. Again, IF that's what you're telling me.

I understand that making campaigns is a huge undertaking; I'm currently developing a very basic low to medium level air-to-air campaign aimed at familiarizing the "casual" player with fairly realistic scenarios, a believable back story and employment while trying to balance the fun factor at the same time. It's basically an exercise in bettering myself with mission and campaign building while reaching out to the player base for help and collaboration where possible and having a final product that, while simple, possibly a tad buggy due to inexperience in mission building, and it doesn't have any voiceovers or anything, it will be 100% free. The triggers combined with the testing is a huge headache and I've been working on it for nearly a month to get it just right. I don't even want to know the amount of expertise it took to pull off something so professional as The Ultimate Argument. However...

Please tell me that we're not renting campaigns and missions now. I really would like to purchase this campaign and I think selling big, whopping campaigns like this for all the modules would be a dream come true...as long as you buy it once and keep it forever.

That was a lot of wasted text, you should have spent the time researching the forums for what the 3 activations mean instead of the weird explanation you came up with...

I DID look on the forums, and all I found in reference to my question were people worried about using up all their activations. If there were unlimited activations it wouldn't be an issue with people, correct? Do you have to ask for more activations and prove proof of purchase? Are you exempt if you purchased it on Steam? I simply don't know what this means, that if your activations count down to 0, will you have to purchase the game again? Yes, it sounds ridiculous but the entire reason I asked the question is because, well, it sounds ridiculous and I wanted to be sure that was not the case.

Hopefully this will clear it up: I want to buy The Ultimate Argument. I do not want to buy The Ultimate Argument if there are only a fixed number of times I can play it due to fixed activations. This is what I understood by other people's posts and I'm writing now for clarification. Yes, it sounds ridiculous and a little stupid, but I'd rather ask a stupid question than stupidly spend money on something I can't keep.

I suspect that the linked post is slightly incorrect. You will not receive a new activation every month. You will receive a single new activation one month after you reach zero activations. One month after using that activation you will get another one. Once you reach zero you will only ever rise back to a count of one.
