Is this really a MiG-21 HUD?

Just now, I was looking at some vintage MiG-21 stuff on youtube. And along came this vid:

At some point (1:20) in the video, they show a HUD which looks VERY diffrent from what we have right now. Is it real or just some old style Soviet special effect HUD??

Yeah, that's a weird video. Seems like it's from a movie or something. This looks nothing like the Mig 21 front panel. This is a more trustful source: http://youtu.be/CsF4WBNXl0s around 1:18 is the best view at the HUD.

At 22:47 you can see it, looks as the hud of the flogger.

It seems to be they took a few seconds of this video and inserted it in the MiG-21 video. Weird.

In the picture above, the Landing Gear lever is in the down position. Now surely all of the compressed air will leak away!

Happy Flying! :pilotfly:

It actually only leaks when in the full "up" position.

Does it though?

In the manual about the Hydro pressure Gauge:

Main hydro system (2) provides hydraulic

pressure for nosecone movements, engine compressor anti-surge

door operations, landing gear, flaps, airbrakes, engine nozzle, one

hydro-booster chamber of the horizontal tail, tyres breaking action

during gears retraction, equipment air-conditioning door

operations, and – in the case of command hydro system failure – it

provides the operation of aileron boosters

(I know, later it says to put the Gear handle into the middle position to not leak compressed air.)

If the main hydro system is used for tyres breaking during gear retraction, then what do we need compressed air for?

I am not entirely sure, but the main brakes on the wheels are definitely pneumatic. It would be quit strange to have a second, hydraulic brake on the wheels, just for that purpose.
