DCS World 1.5 and 2 Discussion

The DCS World 1.5 was announced to be released along the L-39 module, in the first half of this month, i read it somewhere in the "official updates" section. Since the L-39 has been already released, when is DCS World 1.5 going to be out, or it is already? Is the L-39 beta using the old DCS World?

 

The L-39 is not released yet. You can buy it, but it's not in game yet. It will be with DCS World 1.5. As Wags said in its last video, they expect to release it by mid september, more likely end of september

DCS World 1.5

 

Prior to the release of DCS World 2, DCS World 1.5 will be released. This version will be the much the same as described above for DCS World 2 but will NOT include the ability to use new maps and several of the new map features. We plan to release DCS World 1.5 along side DCS: L-39 Albatros in September 2015. Items of DCS World 1.5 include:

• Direct X 11 support
  
• Improved performance
  
• Improved lighting
  
• Better graphical effects (contrails and missile smoke trails)
  
• Better use of multiple GPUs (CPU multi-threading is not being pursued as it will provide little if any gain)
  
• Unified front end and simulation .exe
  
• Improved API sound support
  
• Improved Oculus Rift support

I just wonder... Was there a statement on current tracers? Right now they are barely visible for the shooter while from a perspective they are normal... will we get some update there with new graphical engine?

I'm not aware of any official statement on the matter. Most likely yes, they are in the process of developping this new PACE technology that would allow them to do better effects such as explosions, weather, grass, clouds etc. We can't really expect them to tell us about every single effect they plan on doing but I think it's safe to say tracers will be looked at.

No more separate exe for single and multiplayer parts of the sim... basically.

Correct, they dont and wont have all the effects redone at the launch of 1.5, but even if when 1.5 drops and your favorite effect hasnt been changed chances are it will be. Of course as 1.5 will be a beta, you may report any effect issues, even if they were the same in previous versions.

Have we heard any further suggestions yet as to whether a fresh install will be beneficial to DCS 1.5 (and 2) Or is an update expected to be fine. I only ask as since my SSD failed, I haven't re-installed DCS in anticipation of the update, but the wait is becoming painful lol...

Use the beta install to test this, install the beta now and see how it does just upgrading to 1.5. That is going to be the best test. I am lazy, when I can I will just upgrade, clean installs are always nice, but that's like work :)

Hmmm, I'll be lazy with you I think and let others test it ;) I don't really want two DCS installs on my new SSD tbh. I'll probably just go ahead and install DCS again which will tie me over at least. I have the SU-27 DLC campaign to try out.

You don't recall? I won't be bothered to dig it up but in November 2014 DCS 2 was said to be coming in early 2015, possibly even as early as late December 2014. That was DCS 2 by the way, before DCS 1.5 was even a thing. I'm pretty sure all that was in a update email but if not it was written by something else official. Not that being official makes it true around here.

 

No set in stone release date was ever given, stuff happens, delays are the results. But Wags/ED has been very forthcoming in his videos and updates about issues that have slowed them down. I wont be bothered to dig those up either.

 

In the future please relax the 'tude.. we are all eager for the release of all this good stuff, being snarky wont help anyone.

Runny, yes, ED was originally trying to get DCS 2 out in late 2014. As has been stated MANY times, since then, there were bugs that prevented the release of DCS 2 and NTTR.

 

 

Some of those bugs still exist, that is why ED is releasing DCS1.5. This gives us most of the features of DCS2 - especially an improved Dx11 engine. Trust me, we all would have liked it if events lined up at the end of 2014 the way it was originally planned/hoped.

 

 

Also, no dates are final, everything is subject to change.
