Ironhand
Between work, life, and a recent death in the family, I only just now had a few minutes to spend with the new flight model. All I can say is wow! Like the F-15 before it, the Flanker finally "flies" like a real aircraft full of aerodynamic nuances. And she finally slowly down, too, when you throttle back. :) Now you have to keep a close on a multitude of things to make her do what you want her to do. I can see I'll have less time for coffee, while sitting in the pit. One very noticeable thing is that she flies more nose down than she used to at speed. Took a most of the flight to get used to the new view out of the cockpit. It'll take a bit more time before I can eyeball level flight. Thanks to all involved with this wonderful update. apoll
I believe it is THE Ironhand of Flanker training. I loved those training flights and I learnt a lot. I do wish, Ironhand, that you would now update your way out date training tracks with these new models. Any chance? Regards, Apoll
atsmith6
I want to second that opinion. I've played around flying the SU-27 for a few hours now. Even in Beta I'm finding that flight model a delight to fly. As a "hard core" enthusiast that moans and groans about non-clickable cockpits etc, I can say that the flight model alone has meant I'm going to spend a lot of time in this pit. Well done everyone behind this implementation. Something to be very proud of. I look forward to the completed model with presently disabled bits fully active with enormous anticipation! :)

Bucic
Flankertraining fan here as well! It's amazing how far simulators have gone, isn't it? (former AFM) I did not enjoyed FC3 planes untill F15 and SU27 PFMs... I am sure other people are here for quite similar reassons. Ironhand
Thanks, folks. It's very gratifying to have my past work so well received. :) Bubic, I think that, regardless of whether or not you experienced FC's SFM, the current feeling of flight with AFM/PFM is hard not to appreciate. Ironhand
I only forgive you because you're a venerable senior ;) ... Senior, indeed. Given that my first flight sim experience was mostly a bunch of dots on a screen more or less forming a cockpit, I'm in awe at where we are as it is--advanced flight model or not. Some interactive tutorials for the Su-27 are now available in the latest patch. They can be found in the single missions folder. The latest patch is only for the open beta branch of DCS World so far. Interactive tutorials, once available to all, will help quite a few new to the sim. apoll
Ironhand, well, I sure understand about the time thingy. Myself, I would spend all day on the blessed computer if real life didn't interfere.... At the very least, know that your hard work was/is very much appreciated. 30 hours each, huh? That IS a long time to produce...but I guess I can see that in the quality of them. Real pity...you had a natural way about yourself that made you a great instructor. Can assistance in any form, like working out the 'storyboard' and teaching points help persuade you to try updating the tracks? Sorry to push... I learned dodging SAM in the A-10 with your tutorials, the basics of F-15 BVR and a lot more. "Legendary" fits pretty well. Ironhand will always be remembered as "the one from flankertraining"... Don't worry, most people will understand the issue with time and balancing real life, we all have gone through that, or will in the future. Bucic
It reminds me of a situation with MP at A2A forums. Everyone was like 'It's Mystic Puma!'. MP has started posting here around the time of DCS 1944 kickstarter. I believe EricJ, the popular ArmA modder, is at ED forums under the same nickname. https://akaagar.github.io/briefing-room-for-dcs/ F-5E simpit project https://forum.dcs.world/topic/318106-f-5e-simpit-cockpit-dimensions-and-flight-controls/

Gnark1ll
Its absolutely fantastic to be able to 'skid' and turn and in general flick it around in what should be the 'post stall' area for most aircraft, in the ways the Flanker is so famous for...but were never quite possible with the old FM that used to just feel like it was on rails! The new FM really does give a feeling of weight and and thrust and lift battling inertia, and just overall realism in characteristics...how close to the real deal it is, i cant say...but I do know that replays of my aerobatic manouvers really do 'look real' in ways that they simply didnt before. Its kind of a shame in one way....because the Su33 isnt going to feel quite right, after tooling around in the 'new Flanker-B'!
