how do i know what unit names to use in script?

I am wanting to edit the casualty counter script and so I am introducing relevant ground units...

I see the script uses:

-- counting of Ground casualties:

if 'M-2 Bradley' == _unit_properties.typeName

or 'BMD-1' == _unit_properties.typeName

or 'BMP-1' == _unit_properties.typeName

or 'BMP-2' == _unit_properties.typeName

or 'BMP-3' == _unit_properties.typeName

or 'LAV-25' == _unit_properties.typeName

or 'Marder' == _unit_properties.typeName

My question is: How do i know what name of the unit to put in the list? in the ME, the "marder' is listed as "IFV Marder" so it is apparant the "IFV" was dropped by the author.

I'd like to add units such as the AAA Vulcan M163 and APC M1025 HMMWV .... but what label do i use to describe them in the script?

The thing is, helicopters are different from planes. An airplane by it's nature wants to fly, and if not interfered with too strongly by unusual events or by a deliberately incompetent pilot, it will fly. A helicopter does not want to fly. It is maintained in the air by a variety of forces in opposition to each other, and if there is any disturbance in this delicate balance the helicopter stops flying; immediately and disastrously.

The best place to find the unit type names is in the {DCS}\scripts\database\db_countries.lua file -- it will be the most up-to-date list available. The units are differentiated by country so they will be scattered throughout the file.

blah... tedious to say the least... hell maybe I'll take the time to build it once and see what happens.

No, actually DCS uses different names, one set for the mission editor and another set for the mission. The names are the same for 95%? of the units (just a guess). Another notable exception is the Mi-8 -- for the ME it is Mi-8MTV2 but in the mission it is Mi-8MT. Go figure.:dunno:

Edit: Wow! It turns out only about 50% of the names are the same.

You're welcome. It was fairly simple to obtain -- I used mist.dump_tbl() to get the me_db table from within the ME. In it there is a table named nameByDisplayName which essentially the list I uploaded (after some minor text editing to clean it up).
