Ryan Barnes Posted June 24, 2014 Share Posted June 24, 2014 (edited) Story behind this scheme: Imagine the A-10 was retired and they were sitting in the Davis-Monthan boneyard, waiting to one day be called upon. And then that day comes in the form of the Marine Corps getting the Air Force's hand-me-downs (as per usual...we used to furnish our barracks with the Air Force's throwout furniture....and it still looked new to us) So the Marines cover up the DM tail insignia, paint on some motivational USMC scarlet and gold, and proceed to kill everything in sight. At least that's how my story goes... Our planes may be dirty, but they are 100% functional. We spend our time killin' bad guys and we don't have the time to wash our pigs. This is Afghanistan and we have boots on the ground who need us in the air. Now download this angry pork sandwich and get some screenshots of you killing the enemy...dismissed. When I was in A-4 Squadrons at El Toro back in the early 60's we used to get a Duece and a half and drive to March or Norton Air Force Bases and go through their "cast offs" so that we could get something better than the Navy was willing to let us have. That's how we got our first IBM "Ball" typewriters in the Maintenance Office. Such memories! Heck, they even had some Atlas ICBM's in those warehouses. Semper Fi! An airplane by it's nature wants to fly, and if not interfered with too strongly by unusual events or by a deliberately incompetent pilot, it will fly. A helicopter does not want to fly. It is maintained in the air by a variety of forces in opposition to each other, and if there is any disturbance in this delicate balance the helicopter stops flying; immediately and disastrously.
