Kickstarter Physical Extras

Recommended Posts

Just two weeks ago I switched my digital reward from the F-190 to alpha access and opted to buy the Dora instead when it comes out.

The reason for me to get a litle more interested in WWII aircraft was actually the early access of another related game which provides some very solid fun for what it is at the time.

ATM this is basically my only concern with regard to the whole issue.

But I guess it´s just not been discussed sufficiently yet...

I am going to operate under the assumption that Alpha access will not happen. ED is not set up for it, and I seriously don't see ED sending out 1000 to 2000 NDA's to, for all intents and purposes, random people.

I don't see why giving beta or alpha access to a module requires an NDA. How many games give public alpha/beta access without any such thing, especially since steam started the early access stuff. I'm not terribly hopeful either, bUt in reality all you need is download links and to send out keys... since you can't fly without a key I'd argue the downloads don't evem need to be particularly locked down. Not knowing the whole process though I'm guessing there's probably something to make it not so simple.

Yeah, quite possibly...

I only picked the ME 262 manual as a physical reward, mainly as a neat addition. If it doesn't get done, no worries. If it does, icing on the cake.

I went for all the planes (even when I had already the P-51D) and a physical copy of the Me-262A manual. I only choosed the manual because I had to choose anything. I really don't care about the paper copy, I always use the digital ones.

There should be a option to drop the physical rewards, per backer choose.

I still want my physical manuals / strategy guide, but seem to be in the minority here.

I think there are others as well, the issue becomes what ED can afford to do, the Strategy guide, I still dont know what Luthier was going to do with that one, or how that was going to happen...

With manuals, I am the same, I love the manuals, I print my own, that said, with the rate of patches and changes, I can see why many companies dropped the printed manuals over PDFs.

That's one issue that has so far prevented me from printing any manuals. I haven't ever checked if ED does this, but perhaps any changes or revisions that would change things in the manual could be put into a printable appendix, this way we could just print that up and stick in it the manuals for reference whenever there is an update, and then if someone wanted they could use some way of noting in the manual that there was a change (I'd use sticker labels or pen to write in "see rev sheet" for anything that had been updated). This way ED wouldn't have to make rewrites to the manual, just update the appendix of changes, and we don't have to reprint the manuals but instead just stick the new sheet in the back. Again, I don't know if they do this already or how feasible this is.

Yeah, I dont even think the manuals have rev numbers right now (which I would like to see), I think the manuals quality are pretty impressive considering they dont have a dedicated document staff.

I agree..I backed only 40$ because I don't care about WWII era..just wanted to support ED third parties. But my suggestion is also to ditch the physical extras. Too much into the negative already...don't make it worse for yourselves.

Yeah I have a feeling it isn't happening either, and I can't say I blame them since that is a bit of work. Then again, do they even update the manuals when something changes? Just major changes or minor? I haven't ever verified that, I just always assumed they did so I need to look into that closer. I guess I could always just print up the ED posted change log for the relevant aircraft manual and stick that into the manual as my DIY appendix.

Seriously, the printed manuals wouldn't be ready (correct enough for printing) until a year after the module was produced and by then nobody would really be interested.

Of course you could say that about ANY manual for any product. BUT as a collectable... it would still have some value. And I'd imagine you'd have some people new to the sim or a specific aircraft even after a year.

But at this stage I do agree. That KS money has been spent. Really no way to expect ED to provide anything that is not already in progress. Hard pill to swallow at any rate.

Really the only thing that has changed is that luthier is out...Please remember that this project/and rewards was 100% DEC internally funded(and so remains), and that the base KS campaign was meant for the extended testing of the finished game...per the description during KS :)

What about that statement by Wags, that the KS monies were used up in the development of the aircraft and map?
