Flagrum
Seemingly, according to the early manual, we will get 21 cm rockets for the Dora. I googled a bit and found this: http://www.deutscheluftwaffe.de/archiv/Dokumente/ABC/b/Bordwaffen/21%20cm%20Wurfgranate/21%20%20Wurfgranate%20BR%20Gereat.html (only in german, sorry!) The "Werfergranate 21" was a makeshift adoption of the 21 cm rockets used in the "Nebelwerfer": They just put a pipe under each wing and loaded the rocket into it: They nick named that thing "Dödel" ... meaning ... err ... "dick". :o) The result, when employed as intended against bomber fleets of the Allies, was, well, impressive: The goal was to disturb and scatter the bomber formation, but I would assume, the surprise and shock effect played a more prominent role than the explosives as such. Grim_Smiles
Haven't gotten to read the manual on her yet to see that, there is more that the 190 can carry than I originally believed. I'm assuming those launch tubes can't be jettisoned after firing? Grim_Smiles
I am hoping for the R4Ms (which was employed on the 262 as well) I'm hoping we get them as well, especially if this entry on Wikipedia is accurate: "The Luftwaffe found the R4M missiles to have similar trajectory to the 30 mm MK 108 cannon in flight, therefore the standard Revi 16B gunsight could be utilized". http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/R4M If that is the case, then shooting down a fighter with the R4M is reasonable since it wouldn't be much different than shooting the cannons at one, though I don't know how much drag the launch racks produce. Granted if I'm flying fighter CAP I certainly don't intend on going up with rockets, but if I'm hunting bombers and get into it with a fighter, using a rocket on him can be fun. Edit: Granted the D9 has 20MM not 30MM, but I can imagine that it wouldn't be hugely off that they'd be that difficult to aim, unlike the 21cm rockets. I'm assuming those launch tubes can't be jettisoned after firing? They can be jettisoned is what I´ve read in the article. There´s also a letter of a former Pilot who used these things and he explicitly mentiones the jettison function, but it did not work for him once when he needed it. Krupi
Interestingly in one of the Dora books I have it shows a D9/R5 which is a rare bomber version that has ETC 71 underwing bomb mounts. ED Team NineLine Posted June 11, 2014 ED Team Share Posted June 11, 2014 odd, I Always believed those rockets were a lot more common on the A versions (aka the Butcher bird) Might have been more because during the time of the Dora, the Germans were moving more to a defensive role and perhaps ground strikes were not as common as bomber intercepts... Very pleasant to fly, very controllable, predictable and steady. We never refuse to correct something that was found outside ED if it is really proven...But we never will follow some "experts" who think that only they are the greatest aerodynamic guru with a secret knowledge. :smartass: WWII AIRCRAFT PERFORMANCE

LcSummers
This is my opinion. I for myself hate the 21cm Rocketlauncher. Its too heavy, slows the bird down in speed and agility. Much better R4m rockets or like the D-11 with two 3cm canons against bombers. Edited June 21, 2014 by LcSummers
