Missiles much better FM and kill ratio

I made back in October a Su-33 mission for 1.1 that after 1.1.1 became awfully hard as AAM kill ratio (R-27 R-77) was dismal and forced me in a close in dogfighting that ended up using too much time and too many AAM.

I fought this engagement again and shot down a MiG-29, a Tornado, a Su-17M4 and a pair of F/A-18 while my AI wingman got the other MiG-29 and three Su-17M4.

I still managed to dodge a pair of AIM-7 and a pair of AIM-9.

I don't know if the FM was changed - but they home in and get spoofed in a much better way.

Much to the better - I was able to evade them in a realistic way and hit my targets in a most satisfying way.

Now I can go back flying the Flanker after so many months.

I've only had a chance to fly 1 (sp) mission with 1.12 so it's not strong evidence, but against an F15 I missed with the HOJ launched at 40km (just to give him something to think about), & hit with the next 27ER which had a lock, which didn't seem to happen that much in 1.11. (so the first locked 27ER hit)

Cheers.

Russian birds seem to be racking up kills like mad lately. This is somewhat a surprise to me because the AMRAAM is so much better now. It could be that the F-15's radar has gimbal limits implemented making it hard to manage. Or the Migs and Sues have a much bigger viewcone. It may also have something to do with the ECM confusion online. Everybody is pumping the air (including team mates) with so much trash that Eagles cannot tell who is who untill its too late while the russian bids have not that problem. IFF on the F-15 has become a real problem now. Either targets are too far to get any ID or they are too close to confirm IFF on TWS mode.

Yes I noticed this as well the other day on the 504th. Jumped on and found it to be very hard wasn’t able to stay on long enough to see what was the cause, but I’m thinking that missile performance issues might be the cause. In some testing we found that the 27er has as much as 8nm longer reach in our tests. Couple this with the so-called speed fix released a patch or to ago has forced F15 to have to be way more defensive if it want to stay alive. In my opinion F15 is just about out classed now by all three of red fighters.

They say it's realistic, but I tell you this is the #1 reason why I have been driven off-line and I used to play just about every day. When 1.1 came out I felt that even though the ECM is supposed to be realistic it doesn't work well in the air quake nature of the online community. I mean, in a real life situation you'd have voice communication with other pilots on your team, possibly AWACS or ground control, friendly pilots would stick to their flight plans, etc, so you'd have an overall better situational awareness of who was enemy or foe with noise all on your radar scope. But in game where people just spawn in and fly wherever the heck they feel like with their jammer on all the the time it's very frustrating - whether it be friend or foe. Yeah, before I get flamed I do realize there are a lot of great free servers out there with teamspeak and everything else and I appreciate wholeheartdly the squads that host free servers for us out of their own pocket. It's not directed at you personally or anything or even at ED because I think they are trying to do the right thing by modeling the ECM the best they can. The ECM isn't a problem in a squad vs squad match, it's just a big mess in the air quake type just everybody spawn in and go. Since 1.1 I haven't played much A2A online, mostly just ground attack on 504 server. I haven't done that lately cause my HOTAS is broke and I need a new one. But I'll be back in the air shortly as an SU-25 or A-10 as a target for you all fighter jocks.

cheers

In fact, that's exactly what happens in real life when you're escorting stealth bombers :) You don't know precicely where they are, can't identify 'em, and they are on radio scilence.

Never forget that World War III was not Cold for most of us.

No, no, what we need is some form of better do IFF online. Im not an expert at electronic gajets such as this, but if we had a way of telling where our wingmen are in smething like a JTIDS we would then know if the contacts jamming on radar are frindly or not by exclusion. I bet that then Everybody would stop having jammers on all the time (because its not even realistic since it gives away aicraft position if turned on more often than needed).

In 1.11 I dunno why everbody used it more or less in measure with their needs, wich still left the F-15 drivers with good guesses who is who, preventing FF incidents. I would realy like to know why ECM civility ceased to be anymore.

Yeah I feel the R-27ER's are hitting more, maybe it's just optimism ;)

Pilotasso, about the IFF: a script could be made to ID your locked target, similar to how an Awacs would ID a target for you. The script would probably play an audio file, similar to the awacs audio files.

For realism, would this only work in missions with awacs? Also, the server would have to implement it.

Maybe we need to have ECM Awareness day on the servers. A day where anyone not engaged, but has their Jammer on gets fired on .. friendly or not ! lol That'd take care of it.
