Dear ED, Can you please enable in game graphics settings, "ultra" setting for the shadows. It works wonderful and it is not a secret that DCS uses immense VRAM so there is no reason to be shy about applying 8K cascade shadow maps. They look awesome in VR. I have been using them since I had my hands on 4090. But anytime I change in game a graphics setting shadows revert back to off. And I had to restart DCS with correct options lua again. Please do it. It does not even need coding. Just add it to the existing pull down menu. Thanks!.

Hey, I am longer thinking about, what are the best settings for DCS? Maybe you can post your Reshade and ingamesettings below, i would be very interested what your settings are. Best regards!

I am struggling to get users to turn this off, and they break the mission and rules that the mission designers spend a lot of time on. Why did this even get added? May we ask that this be removed?

I just reinstalled DCS on new SSD, use ihopiworks export app. tonight, my exporter stopped, my export display, sim went crazy. When i rebooted, the Options settings are blank. My video settings, reset. the App boots and quits. Every time i boot, again, its resets. (i changes audio, rudder trim, cockpit specials, video settings... every time i boot up) This is the second time ive had this problem. I cant afford 200 gigs worth of data to reinstall again. Whats the problem?

Hey everyone, I built my PC in 2017 to run DCS 1.5 and it ran it perfectly with no problems or FPS drops at Highest Graphic settings but then 2.5 came and I couldn't run my game at highest settings anymore so I had to downgrade the graphic settings and I still managed play the game/simulator with the same computer with good FPS for 4 years. I was bored today and decided to go on DCS World and see which graphics settings have most impact on FPS so I did quick tests and on each option during testing my game kept crashing after loading few missions(Fixed in an update) so I hope it was worth it and here are my results and findings and what configuration I use. This is my first time creating a guide so don't expect much from it. Here are my computer specs: CPU: i5-7600K 4 Cores Overclocked to 4.5GHz. Memory: 2x8GB(16) DDR4 2400MHz. SSD: Crucial M.2 1TB SSD 2400MB/s Reading Speed and 1800MB/s Writing Speed. <---Highly Recommended if you are using a hard drive GPU: MSI GTX1060 6GB X VR Ready. Screen: 1080p 240Hz 27Inch Curved AOC. VR Headset: Oculus Quest 2 via Air Link 5408x2736 90Hz. (25-45FPS with same settings as 2D) Here are my current graphic settings with how my computer handled it: Lowest Frames Per Second: 45 FPS Average Frames Per Second: 60 FPS Highest Frames Per Second: 90 FPS CPU Usage: 45-100% GPU Usage: 99-100% Memory Usage: 14.1-15.1 GB out of 16 GB (Turns out game uses SSD as Virtual Memory when RAM usage is almost full check out this guide and make sure you only enable file paging on SSD I set my to 32000/64000MB) Note^: (Depending on the situation from being on the carrier on multiplayer with rainy weather to being 30,000ft in the Air) How it looks like in game: Here are my results and findings tested on Caucasus map with the F/A-18C: Textures: Low to High, About 1FPS decrease and cockpit looks way better I wouldn't recommend switching to Low unless you need every single FPS. Terrain Textures: Low to High, I didn't notice any FPS or Graphical change even though the game restarted when changing the option so I don't know about this one so I kept it at High. Civ. Traffic: Off to High, No FPS loss just low detailed vehicles driving on the road and going through tanks and anything placed with mission editor so I keep it OFF to not ruin my immersion when doing Air to Ground Missions. Water: Low to High, 20FPS decrease and didn't notice any water quality change high in the air so I put it on Low. (Only noticeable when comparing side to side images) Visibility Range: Low to Ultra, 5-6FPS decrease buildings and objects can be seen from far away without needing to zoom to make them magically appear I recommend setting it to Ultra or Extreme. Heat Blur: OFF to High, Didn't notice any FPS decrease so I switched it to High to have the realistic After Burner/Engine Heat Blur at the back of the Jet. Shadows: OFF to High, About 6FPS decrease it isn't that much of a performance hit from no Aircraft Shadows to having a high detailed Aircraft Shadows. Resolution of Cockpit Displays(Mirrors): 256 to 1024 Every Frame, Didn't notice any performance difference so I kept it at 1024 Every Frame. MSAA(Anti-Aliasing): OFF to 4x, About 15FPS Decrease I prefer to have this option on 2X to not have obvious jagged pixelated edges without having much of performance decrease. Depth of Field: OFF to Simple/Bokeh, 20-40FPS Decrease on external view, I prefer to have it OFF to not have any Blurriness or performance decrease. Lens Effects: None to Dirt+Flare, 1FPS Decrease I prefer to have it on None to not get blinded by the sun. Motion Blur: I prefer to have it OFF to not have any Blur and have good visibility. Clouds: Low to Ultra, 5FPS Decrease with Minor Quality change I chose Standard for optimal performance. SSAA(Anti-Aliasing): OFF to 2X, 35FPS Decrease it becomes unplayable for me with this option so I recommend having it OFF if you don't want massive performance decrease. This option removes jagged or pixelated edges. SSLR(Light Reflections): OFF to ON, About 8FPS Decrease so I prefer to have it ON for better lighting and light reflections. SSAO(Ambient Occlusion): OFF to ON, About 10-15FPS Decrease I prefer to have it OFF, no major difference the only thing I noticed was the reflection of the screens and better reflections off the instruments and it wasn't that noticeable. Also it's suppose to make scenery blend more such as shadows and look more natural. (Only noticeable when comparing side to side) Clutter/Grass: 0 to 1500, Up to 30FPS Decrease in a very grass dense area, It's best to not max out the setting, also Grass is not noticeable from the Air and doesn't decrease performance when flying High above 7000ft. Forest Visibility: 30% to 100%, 5FPS Decrease, on 30% trees don't load until you get close so I prefer to have it on 70% to be able to see all Trees around me and not render insignificant unnoticeable far away Trees. Forest Details Factor: 0.1 to 1, 1FPS Decrease, Trees Textures look better and detailed. Scenery Details Factor: 0.1 to 1, 1FPS Decrease, Buildings and Structures Textures look better and detailed. Preload Radius: 100 to 100000, Didn't notice any performance difference probably because I'm using an SSD but this may effect people on HDD, Slow CPUs and low RAM. (Do not use above 75,000 if you have 16GB of RAM or less, Use less Preload Radius if you start experiencing random crashes specially on multiplayer.) Gamma(Brightness): Doesn't really effect FPS I prefer to have it on 1.6 for dark and not bright atmosphere. You can increase it depending on how you prefer it. Anisotropic Filtering: OFF to 16x, 18FPS Decrease I prefer to have it on 8x to see distanced objects with high detail if you want performance over quality turn it OFF. Terrain Objects Shadows: Flat to Default, 10FPS Decrease Shadows look better and more detailed and not pixelated. Flat to OFF, 3FPS increase not much increase so I chose to have it on Flat to at least have Shadows on Trees and Buildings. Cockpit Global Illumination: Makes Lighting in the cockpit dynamic I prefer to have it ON. Rain Droplets: OFF to ON, 2-3 FPS Decrease, I prefer to have it ON to see water droplets on canopy if you want bit more FPS have it OFF. Vsync: Limits or Syncs Frames Per Second(FPS) to Monitor/Screen Refresh Rate(Hz), I prefer to have it OFF to not limit my performance. Note: I just realized some of my tests aren't the most accurate but they are precise they should give a good idea on which options have the most impact on FPS. Also here's a very useful Video made by "Commander Steinsch" shows how much visual difference each option does, I don't recommended doing same settings as the Video though. Note: For Mariana Islands scroll down below. Thank you for checking out my post and hope it helped you out, if you have any suggestions or questions go ahead and ask I would happily reply.

Hi Everyone, I disabled the auto-handoff for Petrovich in the miscellaneous settings for the Mi-24P. I did this because I found he likes plunging the helicopter into the ground, whenever I'm flying low, either by dumping the collective and not recovering but also by putting the helicopter into VRS - he doesn't seem to be particularly graceful with the controls. The problem is that now he's completely inaccessible from the front seat, though he is still accessible in the rear seat. How I thought it would've worked is instead of Petrovich taking over immediately and automatically when you jump into the front seat, the controls would be in your hands until you bring up and set-up the Petrovich HSI/menu, at which point he takes over (though gets interrupted if you move the controls yourself). However, now I can't bring the menu up at all.

Hi, How do people have their TrackIR setup with the Apache ? I find my default center point null zone to be a be a bit big - I have to 'glance' away too much to have the IHADSS look around. And zoom settings? Any tips /suggestions/examples would be appreciated. Cheers Scott

Hello everyone, After a couple of months trying every possible settings you can imagine to get a good graphics and performance at 60 fps i finally reach it. OBS: I tested it for caucasus and PG maps, and it should work fine for NTTR and WWII maps although(I don't have these maps). For Syria and marianas forget it. DCS OB Version 2.7.9.18080 My Specs: Core i5 9400F GTX 1060 6gb 32gb RAM Windows 10 PRO NOTE: You'll need of the reshade to use just one filter very important to enhance the graphic quality. EDIT: I forgot to mention, you will need to install this mod for improve your perfomance too. ( https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/files/3317762/ ) @Luke Marqs Make exactly these settings as shown bellow. 1 - Set to ON game mode on the windows 2 - Set to ON Hadware-accelerated GPU scheduling at "Graphics Settings" on the windows. 3 - Open the NVIDIA control panel and choose Global settings tab, then set the shader cache size for 5gb or more. 4 - Change to "Program settings" tab and find to the DCS installation path on your PC (DCS World OpenBeta\bin\DCS.exe). Then set exactly as shown in the prints screen bellow for all options. NOTE: If you are having tearings, consider set vertical sync to FAST. 5 - At DCS settings choice these options NOTE: Textures: It depends what jet you are using, the f16C uses a lot Vram in HIGH option, you can test between medium and high Shadows - For more performance set it to medium, i prefer High. SSLR - To enhance the graphics ilumination set ON, better perfomance OFF. Try to test it. Full Screen as desired Terrain Shadow: very importan in FLAT 6 - Make America great again download of the reshade version 4.9.1 HERE . Then install it on DCS and chose a unique filter as shown bellow. It's very important to enhance the quality to the combination with the native nvidia FXAA, for decrease the AA blur and increase the sharpness. (Do not use the luma sharpen in reshade in this guide!!!!!) NOTE: Do not mark the box "Perfomance mode". If you need help for reshade installation or configuration, please watch some video on youtube. 7 - Close DCS and open again. That's all. I hope you enjoy it. Let me know if i helped you. Sorry for my english and thanks.

Hi everyone, Would it be possible to make the items contained in "additional properties for aircraft" persistent? Such that if you change them, the settings will be saved? Both when spawning a new group of the same aircraft, and when restarting DCS? Right now, when opening DCS or spawning another aircraft, they reset to default unless copied from an existing aircraft. Having them persistent would save just a little bit more time when making missions, as I would only need to set them once and then if I need to edit them, I only need to edit the things I desire (for instance, laser codes). Just to provide some examples: In the Hind I never fly with external dust protection () IR supressors and I always have NVGs and the NS430 disabled (though not sure why the latter is even present). In the Hip I again never fly with the IR supressors or with the NS430. In the F-5E-3 I always run the same countermeasure programs. In the Mirage 2000C I always disable the TAF GCI link. In the Tomcat I always set the gun burst selection to manual. In the Viggen I always set the weapon safety height to low. But because it isn't persistent and the default settings aren't always what I want, I have to edit all of these every single time I create a new group or start DCS. The only time they copy over is when I copy a group, or add units to a group where I've already set them as desired. Alternatively (if there isn't already), is there a way where we can configure what the default settings are set to? Even if it's via some .lua file.

Hello, I am a new player to DCS world. I really like the game it's a lot of fun but really hard. Like it's hard for me to control the plane and remember the key binds etc. So my question is there like a beginner mode so you can control the plane where it is going with your mouse and you don't have to remember all keybinds just a few or something like that?

Currently, as of DCS build 2.5.6.60645 Open Beta, we get two options for selecting our texture preferences in graphics menu:- 1. Texture - The setting which affects the textures of arcrafts and spawnable units. 2. Terrain textures - The setting that affects the textures of the terrain. My suggestion is to divide the settings further into the following categories so that people can fine tune their settings to get the optimal performance/quality balance according to their system:- 1. Aircraft Textures - Textures of your, other player's and AI aircraft. 2. Ground Unit Textures - Textures of ground units and other spawnable units like ships and aircraft carriers (If 1 and 2 aren't possible, they can be grouped together in a Spawnable Unit category) 3. Airfield Textures - Textures of the airfield including the tarmac surfaces, runways, taxiways, buildings, static objects, etc. 4. Terrain Textures - Textures of the ground APART from the airfield. I believe precious memory could be saved by doing this as people can just turn down the textures they don't want to look pretty and keep high the ones they do. For example, I would keep everything except terrain textures to high as I want the airfield that I'm at/taking off from/landing at to look nice, but I don't care how the ground beneath the grass looks, it could be low texture.

So, I've been flying the Viper for a couple months and enjoy it like crazy, but I'm having issues with fine control inputs in situations like strafing runs, AA Refueling and on landings, especially in bad weather, and find myself overcorrecting. Aside from the obvious answer of getting more stick time and stop having gorilla hands, I was hoping to get some insight from other folks who might have the same equipment as me. Currently using the stock 'medium' springs that come installed in the stick, and haven't changed my dead zones or axis at all from default within the DCS controls themselves. Is there anything non-skill based I could manipulate with my equipment and/or settings that might help? Thank you!

So I just got LOMAC and my throttle settings are messed up. I change my binds and click ok. For some reason the binds won't save. Does anyone know how to fix this? (Btw im using Saitek X45)

Hey, Im having a little trouble with the Sinai map, mostly around cities. With my usual settings (Image 1), I get 22fps in the middle of Cairo, with the Ka-50 III "Takeoff from helipad" mission. Turning down the settings significantly (Image 2), and loading the mission back up yields no change in performance. Nothing running except for DCS and OpenTrack, plus task manager CPU load wasnt super high, but GPU was. DCS was using a little under 10Gb of RAM, out of 32. Specs are: Ryzen 5 2600, Radeon RX 570 8Gb, 32Gb DDR4 3600Mhz RAM. Deleted FXO and Metashaders2 and renamed export.lua to export.lua.old, as there was some wierd socket stuff happening there from the DCS UFC app. Only saw a 2-3Fps improvement, but may have been a coincidence. Any ideas why Im not seeing any performance change, and what I could do to improve things?

Hi all, What computer settings can I adjust to get the best out of the Multi-threaded version of DCS? I'm interested in things like how to allocate cores to DCS and how many for best effect, rather than just making adjustments in DCS video options. Currently running: Ryzen 9 5950X 16 core, 32 thread processor Asus Crosshair VIII Dark Hero 32Gb Viper RAM Radeon RX6700XT 4k screen w. TrackIR Thanks in advance! Goggz

I've noticed this bug for the last few months , but I wonder if anyone else is having it. I play with the Quest 2 at 120Hz and a PD of 1.3 and the game runs beautifully at 40-50 FPS in each eye. Every now and then (at least 3x a week) I will have a line going horizontally in two different shades going through both lenses. The only fix is to quit DCS or restart my headset. I have provided the Track and Log from my Most recent flight with this occurring. dcs.log 101VFS_FOOTHOLD_EXPANDED_EDITION_V2.7.4-20230528-100743.trk DxDiag.txt
