  1. Hi All, I have been playing DCS now since the start of 2024 and have subsequently brought a HOTAS and lots of DLCs so it is fair to say I am enjoying DCS. However in the last week or 2 I have been getting random FPS locks between 10 and 35 FPS it seems to be when I change view and it somehow gets stuck I will be running DCS normally on the Caucuses with an FPS of between 60 and 120 depending on aircraft in the vicinity. I will then have a look at the map or go external view and come back and it seems to be stuck on a FPS like 20 FPS and will bounce around 20 FPS sometimes I can go on the map and zoom in or out and change back and it fixes it, other times I can ALT + TAB and that fixes the problem other times I cannot seem to get back to normal FPS. I have tried doing a fresh install of DCS and increasing my virtual RAM on the c drive, I do not think it is a memory issue as when running DCS I seem to be on about 25GB of 32GB. This happens on all maps and all aircraft. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
  2. Guys... is this map was tested in VR? My first impressions are mixed, sorry . I tested low and slow, so Apache on Mount Pleasant and Ushuaia Heliport. I'm afraid that map works worse than Channel map. In Ushuaia Heliport I had 16-22 FPS (on 3090, lol) where on Syria (apart Aleppo) or Caucasus (not to mention PG, Normandy, Nevada) etc I have near stable 45 FPS for G2 (with motion reprojection on). Map has problem to keep stable 45 fps, this is what I saw. I think it needs a BIG performance update (objects, grass, I dont know). Id like to know opinions from the others VR users. I dont use OpenXR (maybe it helps a little) and any shader mod. but I think without mods it should work fine, especially since I haven't seen the information that the map is not VR ready, hmmm :(.
  3. Hey Guys, I was gifted a new Desk Top for Christmas. Here are the specs." HP EliteDesk 800 G5 SFF- intel core- 9th Gen-i5-9600-256 GB SSD-16GB Ram-3.1 GHz- Intel UHD 630- Win 10". I'm having a really hard time trying to figure out exactly which Gpu upgrade for this desktop. It's nearly impossible to fly let alone dogfight with any clarity at all even at low default settings. I'm afraid if I can't get something figured out I'm just going to uninstall DCS and move on to something different, whatever that might be. This is just a hobby but its getting so frustrating and I don't have the funds to spend on an expensive GPU when I'm not sure it would even solve the issues. ALL of you guys are way above me on PC specs and Hardware specs than I will ever be. Kinda getting on up in age ,lol.Checking my Fps and was getting at max 11 FPS with everything turned off or lowest setting. Help me out guys!!
  4. Hi, Since last update It would appear that i can no longer find the FPS display counter. I have the key binding ok and if do it twice it comes up with stats but not the fps display/graph. any ideas Scott
  5. ** UPDATED TO WORK WITH NEWEST DCS OPEN BETA (WITH MULTI-THREADING) ** - Better performance with hardly any shadow quality loss - Works perfect with both screens/monitors and VR - No slower loading of missions of any kind - Made for DCS 2.8 but also works with DCS 2.9 (both MT an ST, Open Beta or Stable) - Not IC compliant for Multiplayer (only with servers which allow mods!) Shadows Reduced Impact (v2.11) download: https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/files/3329503/ ______ NOTES AND DESCRIPTION __________________________________ This is a modification that alters values of shadow cascade(s) for better performance. In practice, what happens when using this mod is the terrain shadows (outside-cockpit) being drawn as far as before, but with overall performance improved with quite small visual difference trade-off. The other benefit is that, at the same time, the inside-cockpit shadows maintain high quality in all settings (4096x4096 pixel shadows, though even that can be changed if really desired). ______ INSTALLATION ______________________________________________ This mod replaces one file found in the game installation folder (same paths and structure as you see in the mod). A mod manager (such as OvGME) is recommended, because it's the quickest way to install and uninstall mods in the game. If instead you prefer to install this mod manually, there are some very simple instructions in the "READ_ME" provided with the downloaded file. After installing this mod, and for the game system options/settings to use for shadows, I suggest to put them just like in the image I attach with this mod. It's merely a suggestion, feel free to use those shadow settings as you see fit. Please remember that if updating or repairing DCS, then the SHADOWS.LUA file will be reset, and you'll need to reinstall this mod again to use it. ______ EDITING THE MOD __________________________________________ If you need to further improve performance (but at cost of shadowmap quality), you can edit the SHADOWS.LUA file with any text editor and change the size value of shadowmap. I left some notes about this subject in the "READ_ME" file. Feel free to experiment - remember to always backup your files! ______ CREDITS AND THANKS _____________________________________ - To KEGETYS for the original mod this was based on. - To the people at E.D., as there are original files modified for the purpose of this mod. ______ CHANGELOG ________________________________________________ v2.11 -- minor corrections in cascade(s) v2.0 -- changes for compatibility with DCS 2.8 OB featuring MultiThreading v1.0 -- initial release based on older Kegetys mod

  7. Hi, I want to report a general decrease of framerate by about 13%. This might be to the new cloud and lighting effects, however I think It might be useful to let you know this. Since the 2.7.6 to 2.7.7 - Performance-Loss Bug I have a small replay I regularly check before updates. These are now the differences: 2.7.18 27-10-2022, 16:05:09 DCS.exe benchmark completed, 8549 frames rendered in 101.203 s Average framerate : 84.4 FPS Minimum framerate : 56.9 FPS Maximum framerate : 109.9 FPS 1% low framerate : 58.7 FPS 0.1% low framerate : 33.7 FPS 2.8.0 30-10-2022, 20:50:31 DCS.exe benchmark completed, 7452 frames rendered in 101.015 s Average framerate : 73.7 FPS Minimum framerate : 51.4 FPS Maximum framerate : 92.6 FPS 1% low framerate : 52.8 FPS 0.1% low framerate : 47.7 FPS My PC in short: Ryzen 7 3700X, AMD 6900XT (Adrenalin 22.10.2), 64GB RAM, Windows 10 21H2 Unfortunately, I can only share a actual 2.8 log file (attached). Currently I try to make space on my drive, to update the stable and -counterverify the original numbers. I will post the log for this later. What I've done so far: - Delete fxo - Delete metashader2 - Removed Scripts-Folder As soon as the stable is ready I'll try diffent settings to compare the impacts. But meanwhile, if someone has valuable suggestions, I am open for tipps. EDIT: I finally could find some place for the stable and installed it. I've created two more flight, one in very bad weather, the other without. Also changed the modules. But the results are very compareable. 30-10-2022, 22:11:55 DCS.exe benchmark completed, 5598 frames rendered in 74.672 s 2.7.18 Beirut_4_2 Average framerate : 74.9 FPS Minimum framerate : 56.6 FPS Maximum framerate : 99.8 FPS 1% low framerate : 56.6 FPS 0.1% low framerate : 55.1 FPS 30-10-2022, 22:15:30 DCS.exe benchmark completed, 6445 frames rendered in 63.859 s 2.7.18 Beirut_4_3 Average framerate : 100.9 FPS Minimum framerate : 72.7 FPS Maximum framerate : 137.7 FPS 1% low framerate : 72.4 FPS 0.1% low framerate : 70.8 FPS 30-10-2022, 22:19:27 DCS.exe benchmark completed, 4906 frames rendered in 74.469 s 2.8.0 Beirut_4_2 Average framerate : 65.8 FPS Minimum framerate : 52.2 FPS Maximum framerate : 87.3 FPS 1% low framerate : 51.6 FPS 0.1% low framerate : 47.5 FPS 30-10-2022, 22:21:04 DCS.exe benchmark completed, 5590 frames rendered in 63.438 s 2.8.0 Beirut_4_3 Average framerate : 88.1 FPS Minimum framerate : 60.8 FPS Maximum framerate : 115.7 FPS 1% low framerate : 60.1 FPS 0.1% low framerate : 58.6 FPS EDIT2: Updated Title EDIT3: Corrected GPU Number dcs.log Performance_Fly_4_1_Beirut.trk Performance_Fly_4_2_Beirut.trk Performance_Fly_4_3_Beirut.trk dcs_2.7.18.log
  8. The following post includes both issue and the solution I have found after testing and troubleshooting for the sake of reproduction, testing and fixing (if possible). Hey everyone, For weeks I have been plagued by FPS issues during multiplayer sessions on well known Servers such as BlueFlag, the Growling Sidewinder as well as Graywolfs Grayflag Server, pretty much making the game unplayable near ground, in cockpit or as a whole. These issues are severe, since the game drops from [my] regular 80-110fps (depending on terrain and surroundings) to 12-30fps. I was extensively trying to find the cause of this issue - especially since, mostly playing online and PvP (DCS competitive too), it meant that there was not much to do for me in game with frames always being this low. Knowing that AMD never had the best or most stable GPU drivers, I was almost certain that it was related to my drivers - especially since that issue popped up (again) after updating to the newest one a few weeks back. I tried out different DCS Graphics settings (I think i might have tested out every possible combination by now), clean installing different GPU drivers (with DDU ensuring a true clean install), tried testing it with and without community mods, and so on and so forth. The most annoying part of this issue is that it felt unreproducible, unpredictable and persistent until I restart my game, only to sometimes realize that the issue comes back after a couple of seconds or minutes after slotting into a plane. The following findings have been learned with a vanilla DCS install (No Mods, Full Repair etc.). Trying out different recent AMD drivers did not seem to improve the situation, until I decided to turn off my Radeon ReLive feature. This feature records the last x seconds for you to save on pressing a Hotkey - an instant replay feature also known as NVIDIA Shadow Play on NVIDIA GPUs. Here's where I found my solution for the issue, with which I hope the Testers or ED Team can investigate if possible. Issue: - DCS performance (Single or Multithreaded versions affected alike) drops from regular >80fps to <30fps on busy multiplayer servers (unreliably reproduceable in Single Player) Fix/Workaround: Cause: Instant Replay Feature (I can only be sure about AMD's ReLive, as I dont own an NVIDIA card) Fix 1: Turn off Radeon ReLive feature Fix 2: Set Video Codec from AVC to HEVC. Switching from AVC to HEVC also fixes the issue with ReLive enabled. The issue could also be observed while recording DCS with an AVC-Codec, with the frames dropping to mentioned 12-30fps during recording, only to go up to [my] regular ~100fps - so recording with AVC (ReLive disabled) would still cause the frames to drop. Now, I know that this is strongly related to AMD and their drivers - however I have not observed any similar behavior in any other game but DCS. As I am lacking the tools, I can only guess to what the root of the issue is. I very much hope that posting this bug report including my solution might help out others that have the same issue, as well as get the attention by ED/AMD to maybe check it out. (not going to argue about how useful or sensible an instant replay feature is, thats everyone's own choice and I like saving highlights). If you need logs, trackfiles or other information that I have not been able to include here, please notify me. Thanks. With kind regards, Asphelite System Specs: Mainboard: MSI B550 Gaming-Plus CPU: AMD R5 3600X RAM: Patriot Viper 32GB@3200mhz CL16 (XMP enabled) GPU: (Aorus) AMD RX5700XT PSU: 1000W G80+ OS: Win10 Tested Driver Versions: 23.8.x and newer. (fix was found on 23.8.1; Newest at the time of writing: 23.9.3)
  9. There have been many reports of unexplained prolonged FPS drops in VR. I have provided what I hope is a consistent repro along with a GPU/perf capture later on below, but common symptoms of this issue seem to include: Happens randomly, but common triggers seem to be actions that cause temporary performance blips (that then turn into sustained FPS drops) FPS goes from something stable and normal (e.g. 30/45fps) to significantly lower and unplayable (e.g. 15-25fps) FPS drop lasts for many minutes, sometimes requiring exiting the game to recover VR-specific Alt-tabbing away from and back to DCS sometimes resolves the issue Returning to the main menu still exhibits abnormally low FPS I think those last three points are important, as they point to a software bug, not a hardware bottleneck. FPS would return to normal at the main menu, and alt-tabbing wouldn't fix the issue, if this were simply a problem with users' machines being incapable of sustaining adequate framerates. Furthermore, the issue seems to be VR-specific, pointing to a VR-specific bug as opposed to a hardware capacity issue. Here's a collection of forum posts that I believe exhibit this issue (there are more): The most consistent repro that I can find is to: Load into main menu Observe 90fps Load into Cold Start instant action on Marianas map in F/A-18C sim (this is a good starting point, since you're on a carrier, and can see the island in the distance) Observe stable 45fps Slowly turn your head to the left, until you're looking behind your left shoulder Slowly turn your head to face back forward, then right, until you're looking behind your right shoulder this time Turn your head back to face forward Observe ~14 fps Quit to main menu Observe ~25 fps This is on current stable Steam DCS (also on beta), Windows 10, a stock RTX 3080 (driver 512.95, doesn't seem to matter), stock Ryzen 5950x, HP Reverb G2, WMR 2000.21051.1282.0 (version doesn't seem to matter), OpenXR 110.2204.7007 (also reproduces on SteamVR), 100% render scale (3168x3096 pixels per eye), motion reprojection always on, and the following in-game settings: 2022-06-02 08:30:19.529 INFO APP: options.graphics = { ['messagesFontScale'] = 1; ['forestDetailsFactor'] = 0.75; ['rainDroplets'] = true; ['LensEffects'] = 0; ['box_mouse_cursor'] = true; ['anisotropy'] = 4; ['water'] = 1; ['motionBlur'] = 0; ['outputGamma'] = 2; ['aspect'] = 1.6666666666667; ['lights'] = 2; ['shadows'] = 4; ['MSAA'] = 1; ['SSAA'] = 0; ['civTraffic'] = ''; ['clutterMaxDistance'] = 0; ['cockpitGI'] = 0; ['terrainTextures'] = 'max'; ['multiMonitorSetup'] = '1camera'; ['shadowTree'] = false; ['chimneySmokeDensity'] = 0; ['fullScreen'] = false; ['forestDistanceFactor'] = 0.75; ['useDeferredShading'] = 1; ['DOF'] = 0; ['clouds'] = 1; ['sceneryDetailsFactor'] = 1; ['width'] = 1280; ['flatTerrainShadows'] = 0; ['visibRange'] = 'Ultra'; ['textures'] = 2; ['SSLR'] = 0; ['effects'] = 3; ['SSAO'] = 0; ['secondaryShadows'] = 0; ['sync'] = false; ['scaleGui'] = 1; ['preloadRadius'] = 150000; ['height'] = 768; ['heatBlr'] = 0; ['terrainMapMFD'] = { ['distance'] = { ['mapLodDistance3'] = 200000; ['mapLodDistance2'] = 100000; ['mapLodDistance0'] = 25000; ['mapLodDistance1'] = 50000; }; }; }; This behavior doesn't really make sense. I'm sure that the act of looking right on the Marianas map is exceeding the VRAM on my 3080, causing a temporary blip as stuff has to be paged out of VRAM for it, but when I look back forward, everything should get paged back in automatically (at least on DX11) and return to normal. And indeed, in the captures below, there isn't any persistent VRAM paging going on that would explain the severe drop in FPS. Similarly, when returning to the main menu, instead of getting 90fps like I was before, I'm at 25fps, and nothing strenuous is going on (I haven't grabbed a capture of this yet as it's much more difficult to get a capture of due to needing to alt-tab to start the capture, and alt-tab typically clears the issue in the main menu); I took a GPUView capture of the issue on the Marianas map (happy to provide to private support), and it clearly shows some kind of problem with how DCS is scheduling it's main thread. In summary, it appears to be sleeping too long and doing nothing. This isn't a problem that requires advanced multithreading, DX12, better VRAM management, etc... It simply appears to be an issue with DCS waiting too long to start rendering the next time. Here is a capture of a normal, stable 30 fps for me after loading into Marianas (higher settings than I mentioned previously, but still a decent 30fps): What I've gathered from this is that: In VR, DCS has a thread started from WinXrRuntime.dll that runs at 90Hz (or whatever the refresh rate of your headset is) You can see the row for this in the bottom left (labeled WinXrRuntime.dll) The blue boxes are when this thread is running on a CPU core. You can see a total of 14 of them, because this capture window covers about 160 milliseconds, so at 90hz we'd expect about 14 occurrences in a 160 millisecond time period I believe this is due to xrWaitFrame (https://www.khronos.org/registry/OpenXR/specs/1.0/man/html/xrWaitFrame.html), which must be called by the application to synchronize frame submissions with my headset. So this thread is probably calling xrWaitFrame on a loop to do that, which is why it's running at 90Hz The DCS.exe thread is running at 30Hz, every 3rd time that the WinXrRuntime.dll thread is running The WinXrRuntime.dll thread is seemed to be used to (among other things) schedule the main DCS.exe thread to run (i.e. this is how DCS ensures it synchronizes its frame submissions with your VR headset) You can see the row for this a bit above WinXrRuntime.dll, labeled as DCS.exe Similarly, the blue boxes are when this thread is running on a CPU core, which aligns with every 3rd time that WinXrRuntime.dll runs In this capture, when the DCS.exe thread is signaled to run, it executes for about 16ms This isn't fast enough to run at 90Hz As noted above, it's running at every 3rd time that the WinXrRuntime.dll thread is running I.e. this is running at 30Hz, or 30fps. Which with motion reprojection, is perfectly stable and playable This could run at 45Hz, however my GPU wouldn't be able to keep up, so it would be a bottleneck and my FPS wouldn't improve. You can tell this from the Device Context and RTX 3080/Hardware Queue 3D rows, which show that the GPU is being kept busy ~85% of the time. The GPU work scheduled to the Device Context queue also takes about 28ms to drain, so it's limited to about 30fps, and there's no point to the DCS.exe thread running more often (at least, not for scheduling GPU work) In summary, the main DCS.exe thread is running at the ideal 30Hz for how my hardware is performing, and I'm getting a reasonably smooth 30fps with motion reprojection Now, let's compare this with a capture of an abnormal, unstable ~22fps for me, on the same Marianas map, after briefly turning to the right and then looking forward in the same exact direction (i.e. should be rendering the same stuff as earlier in the 30fps capture): There are a few notable differences from the earlier capture that was stable at 30fps: The WinXrRuntime.dll thread is still running at the expected 90Hz The DCS.exe thread is running at 22.5Hz, every 4th time that the WinXrRuntime.dll thread is running (instead of every 3rd) In this capture, when the DCS.exe thread is signaled to run, it executes for about 23ms This is higher than in the good capture (23ms vs. 16ms) As noted above, it's running at every 4th time that the WinXrRuntime.dll thread is running I.e. this is running at 22.5Hz, or 22.5fps. Even with motion reprojection, this isn't very playable (it also varies a lot and isn't stable) This could run at 30Hz, but for some reason it isn't. My GPU isn't a bottleneck. The GPU work queued to the Device Context is still taking 28ms to drain, which is the same as the good capture. The GPU is also only being kept busy about 60% of the time, and there's no reason that the DCS.exe thread couldn't run more often (at least, probably not) In summary, the main DCS.exe thread could be running at 30Hz, and my GPU would be able to keep up, but for some reason it isn't, resulting in a very poor framerate My CPU also certainly isn't a bottleneck. I don't have an explanation as to why each frame of the DCS.exe thread went from 16ms to 23ms, but that's still fast enough to run at 30fps. I also have plenty of spare cores to which the DCS.exe thread could be scheduled to and run during this, so that isn't a problem either: In summary, it should be evident from these captures that DCS is more than capable of running this at a stable 30fps here, but isn't due to what appears to be a bug with the main DCS.exe thread literally deciding to do nothing and wait (lazy thread!). There is no CPU/GPU bottleneck. DCS must have some way of throttling how frequently the main DCS.exe thread runs. If it ran as frequently as it could, then my GPU wouldn't be able to keep up. This is why it only runs at 30Hz instead of 45Hz in the first capture, because even though it could run at 45Hz, the GPU would fall behind. So it must be doing something intelligent to throttle how often it runs. It's my theory that these framerate drops in VR (consistent with the symptoms mentioned here) are due to a bug with how the DCS main thread is scheduled to run, that causes it to run less frequently than it should in certain scenarios, and thus may be a relatively simple fix and a huge stability boost to anyone experiencing this issue (including myself). I'm happy to provide more info. I also have logs available, but I'll note that they look the same whether or not the issue is occurring, so I don't believe they'll do much good. I also have some experience in this field and would be happy to sign an NDA and look into the issue myself, but I'm sure ED has people better suited to fixing this than me. If only they're able to reproduce and look into the issue, I'm sure a lot of VR customers would be very grateful, as this issue is extremely disruptive, to the point of making the game unplayable in VR without excessive hardware purchases (like a 3090) or turning settings down to very low levels and avoiding maps like Marianas or even MP entirely.
  10. So while I was flying my F-16C on the Syria map I noticed a massive fps increase when the Slats and the wing tip got shot/hit off by gun/Missiles, my fps went from 10-20 to 40-120. So after I noticed this increase I did some testing and tried to remove non necessary variables like what other players are doing on a MP server. So I setup a testing area with the F16C controlled by player and some SA-9 (this is the same unit that caused the original fps increase). And after many attempts I got 3 tracks where you can see a massive fps increase when one full wing gets blown off and the 4th track file is an almost exact replica of what happened originally. 11. I am getting 23 fps in the menu screen and 11-15 fps in flight. All maps, all aircraft. Have not done anything else than come back from a vacation and started up DCS and get unplayable framerates. Using a Vive with a Nvidia GTX 1080. 6700K Skylake. 32G RAM. Normally have 90 fps(max for Vive) in the menu and around 45 fps in game. Other games like Star Wars Squadrons and Dirt Rally2.0 do not behave the same. Hopefully ruling out hardware or Nvidia drivers and the like. Like I said, no change in config or anything.
  12. Just installed a pair of lcd screens behind the Cougars. It looked okay, but the frame drop and stutter is unforgiving. I have a Ryzen 5600x, 6800xt, 32gb, 165hz monitor @ 3440x1440 rig which is quite smooth with all graphic options pushed to max except for AA and RT . (only play SP so far) But once I start pushing screens to the MFDs, it is choppy as @!₩#. (freesync is off) I am exporting via monitorsetup lua file adjustment(file attached). Freesync is off and total resolution on options is 4240x1440p (MFD LCDs are 800x600 each and are stacked on top of each other/ to the right of center screen) ANY Help would be greatly appreciated MFD export.lua
  13. Hey everyone, I built my PC in 2017 to run DCS 1.5 and it ran it perfectly with no problems or FPS drops at Highest Graphic settings but then 2.5 came and I couldn't run my game at highest settings anymore so I had to downgrade the graphic settings and I still managed play the game/simulator with the same computer with good FPS for 4 years. I was bored today and decided to go on DCS World and see which graphics settings have most impact on FPS so I did quick tests and on each option during testing my game kept crashing after loading few missions(Fixed in an update) so I hope it was worth it and here are my results and findings and what configuration I use. This is my first time creating a guide so don't expect much from it. Here are my computer specs: CPU: i5-7600K 4 Cores Overclocked to 4.5GHz. Memory: 2x8GB(16) DDR4 2400MHz. SSD: Crucial M.2 1TB SSD 2400MB/s Reading Speed and 1800MB/s Writing Speed. <---Highly Recommended if you are using a hard drive GPU: MSI GTX1060 6GB X VR Ready. Screen: 1080p 240Hz 27Inch Curved AOC. VR Headset: Oculus Quest 2 via Air Link 5408x2736 90Hz. (25-45FPS with same settings as 2D) Here are my current graphic settings with how my computer handled it: Lowest Frames Per Second: 45 FPS Average Frames Per Second: 60 FPS Highest Frames Per Second: 90 FPS CPU Usage: 45-100% GPU Usage: 99-100% Memory Usage: 14.1-15.1 GB out of 16 GB (Turns out game uses SSD as Virtual Memory when RAM usage is almost full check out this guide and make sure you only enable file paging on SSD I set my to 32000/64000MB) Note^: (Depending on the situation from being on the carrier on multiplayer with rainy weather to being 30,000ft in the Air) How it looks like in game: Here are my results and findings tested on Caucasus map with the F/A-18C: Textures: Low to High, About 1FPS decrease and cockpit looks way better I wouldn't recommend switching to Low unless you need every single FPS. Terrain Textures: Low to High, I didn't notice any FPS or Graphical change even though the game restarted when changing the option so I don't know about this one so I kept it at High. Civ. Traffic: Off to High, No FPS loss just low detailed vehicles driving on the road and going through tanks and anything placed with mission editor so I keep it OFF to not ruin my immersion when doing Air to Ground Missions. Water: Low to High, 20FPS decrease and didn't notice any water quality change high in the air so I put it on Low. (Only noticeable when comparing side to side images) Visibility Range: Low to Ultra, 5-6FPS decrease buildings and objects can be seen from far away without needing to zoom to make them magically appear I recommend setting it to Ultra or Extreme. Heat Blur: OFF to High, Didn't notice any FPS decrease so I switched it to High to have the realistic After Burner/Engine Heat Blur at the back of the Jet. Shadows: OFF to High, About 6FPS decrease it isn't that much of a performance hit from no Aircraft Shadows to having a high detailed Aircraft Shadows. Resolution of Cockpit Displays(Mirrors): 256 to 1024 Every Frame, Didn't notice any performance difference so I kept it at 1024 Every Frame. MSAA(Anti-Aliasing): OFF to 4x, About 15FPS Decrease I prefer to have this option on 2X to not have obvious jagged pixelated edges without having much of performance decrease. Depth of Field: OFF to Simple/Bokeh, 20-40FPS Decrease on external view, I prefer to have it OFF to not have any Blurriness or performance decrease. Lens Effects: None to Dirt+Flare, 1FPS Decrease I prefer to have it on None to not get blinded by the sun. Motion Blur: I prefer to have it OFF to not have any Blur and have good visibility. Clouds: Low to Ultra, 5FPS Decrease with Minor Quality change I chose Standard for optimal performance. SSAA(Anti-Aliasing): OFF to 2X, 35FPS Decrease it becomes unplayable for me with this option so I recommend having it OFF if you don't want massive performance decrease. This option removes jagged or pixelated edges. SSLR(Light Reflections): OFF to ON, About 8FPS Decrease so I prefer to have it ON for better lighting and light reflections. SSAO(Ambient Occlusion): OFF to ON, About 10-15FPS Decrease I prefer to have it OFF, no major difference the only thing I noticed was the reflection of the screens and better reflections off the instruments and it wasn't that noticeable. Also it's suppose to make scenery blend more such as shadows and look more natural. (Only noticeable when comparing side to side) Clutter/Grass: 0 to 1500, Up to 30FPS Decrease in a very grass dense area, It's best to not max out the setting, also Grass is not noticeable from the Air and doesn't decrease performance when flying High above 7000ft. Forest Visibility: 30% to 100%, 5FPS Decrease, on 30% trees don't load until you get close so I prefer to have it on 70% to be able to see all Trees around me and not render insignificant unnoticeable far away Trees. Forest Details Factor: 0.1 to 1, 1FPS Decrease, Trees Textures look better and detailed. Scenery Details Factor: 0.1 to 1, 1FPS Decrease, Buildings and Structures Textures look better and detailed. Preload Radius: 100 to 100000, Didn't notice any performance difference probably because I'm using an SSD but this may effect people on HDD, Slow CPUs and low RAM. (Do not use above 75,000 if you have 16GB of RAM or less, Use less Preload Radius if you start experiencing random crashes specially on multiplayer.) Gamma(Brightness): Doesn't really effect FPS I prefer to have it on 1.6 for dark and not bright atmosphere. You can increase it depending on how you prefer it. Anisotropic Filtering: OFF to 16x, 18FPS Decrease I prefer to have it on 8x to see distanced objects with high detail if you want performance over quality turn it OFF. Terrain Objects Shadows: Flat to Default, 10FPS Decrease Shadows look better and more detailed and not pixelated. Flat to OFF, 3FPS increase not much increase so I chose to have it on Flat to at least have Shadows on Trees and Buildings. Cockpit Global Illumination: Makes Lighting in the cockpit dynamic I prefer to have it ON. Rain Droplets: OFF to ON, 2-3 FPS Decrease, I prefer to have it ON to see water droplets on canopy if you want bit more FPS have it OFF. Vsync: Limits or Syncs Frames Per Second(FPS) to Monitor/Screen Refresh Rate(Hz), I prefer to have it OFF to not limit my performance. Note: I just realized some of my tests aren't the most accurate but they are precise they should give a good idea on which options have the most impact on FPS. Also here's a very useful Video made by "Commander Steinsch" shows how much visual difference each option does, I don't recommended doing same settings as the Video though. Note: For Mariana Islands scroll down below. Thank you for checking out my post and hope it helped you out, if you have any suggestions or questions go ahead and ask I would happily reply.
  14. OK, looks stunningly beautiful but... From the FAQ: RECOMMENDED SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS (HIGH graphics preset settings): OS 64-bit Windows 8/10; DirectX11; CPU: Core i5+ at 4+ GHz or AMD FX / Ryzen; RAM: 16 GB (32 GB for heavy missions); Free hard disk space: 120 GB on Solid State Drive (SSD); Discrete video card NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 / AMD Radeon RX VEGA 64 or better; Joystick; requires internet activation. I am on a Windows 10, I7-10700K (5.1 GHz), 64 GB RAM (3000 MHz), RTX 3080. Also from the FAQ: Despite being an island map, you can expect similar performance to the Syria map So, Syria map gives me constant 60 FPS (consistent with my screen capability) and empty Andersen AB I get 40, Guam @ 3000 feet MSL I get 30-40, at 700 feet I get 30-40. Ocean alone at 1000 feet MSL shows as 80 fps, whereas Mediterranean sea on Syria map gives 120 fps at the same alt. I guess I need to wait for optimizations?
  15. Ok, I will begin this post with my system specs because there are definitely oddities in my FPS as will be shown latter. Cpu: Ryzen 3600 w/ stock cooler oc at 4.2 Mobo: Msi X570 Tomahawk GPU: Power Color rx 6800 Psu: 650 watt gold cert 32gb CL 16 3600 ram all in a airflow friendly case Game settings are Point Blank’s rx 5700xt settings. I play on a 1080p monitor. With these components I used to (On the f/a 18 free flight) get about 180 FPS in Caucuses. This performance stopped pre 2.7 in 2.5.6. Now at dialed back settings from before I am seeing 70-75 FPS. I have tried every fix me or the group I play with has thought of and haven’t found a fix. I have even gone so far as to completely reinstall my computer’s operating system. I am looking for any help I can get. I have updated, repaired, and cleaned dcs, but nothing seems to work. Please leave any suggestions.
  16. Hi guys, A little confused here. The hind seems to be munching my FPS like crazy, with most modules i get 50/60FPS with decent settings, but with the hind I am barely getting 30! Any ideas whats going on? any settings I can look at to smooth it out? See my settings below. MSI z16 laptop with 3060 32gb ram I7 11800H
  17. Noticed this on 2D mode while messing around in the mission editor. Normally I fly VR. My specs: AMD 5800X 32 Gb Ram SSD Drives AMD RX6900XT For some reason when moving the camera around, the FPS behaves crazy. I can have 170-200 FPS looking down at an area, turn the camera slightly, and the frames drops to 50-60 FPS. At the same time the GPU utilisation drops from 80-100% and down 16-20%. Turn camera again, and the frames and GPU usage comes back up again. I have attached 2 screenshots, almost the same. The one with blue skies in the horizon has 75 FPS. The one with a slightly more angled down view, has 179 FPS. Now, you could say it's due to more "horizon" in the view of the first one. But here's the kicker. If I zoom in on the radar of the patriot site in the background. I get..... 50 FPS. Looking straight down on nothing but the radar. I would expect HIGHER FPS. As it should be easier to draw a single patriot radar, then the entire scene. I can have the same issue inside cockpit vs external view. Inside Apache cockpit, 150-180 FPS. Move to F2 view, 60-70 FPS. Back into the cockpit again, 170 FPS. This is the "top down" view on the patriot radar, gives me 50-60 FPS. I have noticed this on different maps, Nevada, Caucasus, Gulf and Syria. Scenes where you would expect lower frames are pushing out 140-190 FPS easily. Change to a single UH-60 external view in Nevada. Tanks down to 60 FPS. Goes back to internal view in the Apace, shoots right back into 140-170... I use Skatezillas tool to do the patching and cleaning of the DCS install everytime.
  18. Hey all and Devs. So my TOP desire for DCS would be a First person module/standard feature. (I love jets but a full theatre of war would be awesome) Before some people come here and say that its a flight sim and not another Call of Duty, let me explain why. 1. First person module is not 'difficult' to make in comparison to an entire flight physics model for a heli or jet. I have no idea what would be technically involved in getting the DCS world engine to work with first person, human physics and animation but for now I would assume that it is possible at least. 2. First person (shooter) is more popular than an extremely detailed flight sim. Its easy to get into without needing to study an entire manual. This alone would generate much more revenue for ED (very quickly) and allow them to make even more jets/maps/modules and expand the company. Heck, you could charge $10 (Super cheap) for a first person module and you'd see player numbers rise incredibly. That alone would get more people interested in the other jets and things. 3. Imagine how cool it would be to play on the ground, knowing about the crazy jets and helis above. Coolness factor would be unbelievable. 4. The big thing about first person is animation and modelling of weapons (Yes I know there is more to it but these are the major things). Now, I'd say that both the models and animations can be bought from other studios and touched up to DCS standard. The amount of time and money spent on developing in-house assets for this wouldnt be worth it in comparion to just buying it. There are hundreds of games and studios who have made these assets, no need to reinvent every wheel. So time investment wouldn't be a major concern and monetary investment could be recovered very quickly. 5. Combined arms already exists.... So, let me hit E on that tank and hop in. 6. It's called Digital combat simulator. Not Digital Flight Simulator. Its mean to simulate ALL combat, so why not add the easiest form of combat? I'm sure I can sit and think of more reasons but Im sure you get what Im saying. If a dev could give a comment on this, that would be great! Also, understand that Im not saying "DO IT NOW! GIMMIE FPS!!!" Things dont happen instantly... so please ED, do consider this idea. Let me know what you all think?
  19. DCS 2.8.0.32235.1 Open Beta on Persian Gulf map. When you change the navigation display, you have a big loss of FPS and screen stutter. Please verify. Thanks!
  20. Hello, I have an i7 8700k and with MT I am getting lower frames than before with all aircraft in same settings. FPS indicators say CPU bottlenecking with around 20% of the cpu being utilized. This also occurs in the menus. I'm hearing similar reports from a few people in discord with similar processors. System specs i7 8700k, 3080, 64 gb ram
  21. Hi, I have a done a forum search and cannot find any other posts. Anybody getting FPS spikes in the AH64? I get really good FPS but am getting FPS Spikes/drops every couple of secs say from 110 down to 60. This is of course causing a little lag pause. AH64 appears to be the only module I am getting this in.
  22. Hello All, In DCS MT another issue I'm experiencing is an equally spaced jitter in my fps (see attached). Any ideas what this might be? Fun fact: this doesn't happen when tabbed out. System specs: CPU: 13900kf GPU: 3080ti FE Ram: 64gb
  23. Hey, Im having a little trouble with the Sinai map, mostly around cities. With my usual settings (Image 1), I get 22fps in the middle of Cairo, with the Ka-50 III "Takeoff from helipad" mission. Turning down the settings significantly (Image 2), and loading the mission back up yields no change in performance. Nothing running except for DCS and OpenTrack, plus task manager CPU load wasnt super high, but GPU was. DCS was using a little under 10Gb of RAM, out of 32. Specs are: Ryzen 5 2600, Radeon RX 570 8Gb, 32Gb DDR4 3600Mhz RAM. Deleted FXO and Metashaders2 and renamed export.lua to export.lua.old, as there was some wierd socket stuff happening there from the DCS UFC app. Only saw a 2-3Fps improvement, but may have been a coincidence. Any ideas why Im not seeing any performance change, and what I could do to improve things?
  24. Apparently DFR has been released by @mbucchia for DCS. Has anyone had a chance to look at it so far? I’m keen on upgrading my HP Omnicept but if Smart Smoothing is not working effectively at this stage, this may well be a good work around with my 3080ti. I Sam that VR Flight sim guy says it’s up and running and producing 80-90 fps on a 4070. Not sure of his settings though.
  25. I have done several performance tests of my newest hardware and compared them with each other. I have used DCS World 2.8.3.38090 Open Beta with Single Thread ST and Multiple Threads MT with an Instant Mission: AH-64D, map "Marianas" - Battle for Saipan: Dawn Invasion" After starting the mission, I have pressed OK, then [Right-STRG + Break/Pause] for two times (for displaying the frame rate) and then I have pressed the space bar.
