Adding Countries ?

Recommended Posts

Hi,

At first a big thank to HungaroJET and 59th Ducky who found the errors. You made the deal.

For the FC2/BS1 version look here

Now we have a starter pack who is working.

This pack needs now some updates and adds. You can see that many things are empty, like medals, squadron pictures and names.

The countries are populated (vehicles, planes...) with the infos i've found on the web. I'm not a military specialist and if they needs an update please reply your infos here.

The flags need to be reworked if someone is a better artist

1- In : ...\Scripts\World\

Countries.lua and FARP.lua are finished. If there is somthing to change, please reply.

2- In : ...\Scripts\Database\Troops (This is needed for the Logbook)

- There are tow sub folders \A-10C for the plane squadronds and \Ka50 for the Helicopters

- In each subfolder you will find for each countrie a LUA file where the squadrons are described (Look in Switzerland.lua for example)

- The PNG images for each squadron are located in ...\MissionEditor\data\images\Countries\Name_of_country\Troops

- The number value in the Award lines are is the number of points you're needing to recive the medal.

3- In : \Scripts\Database

Addon-db_countries.lua is the main file where each countrie is populated (this is the biggest deal)

- I begun to add for each countries units, (cars,planes,chopper...) but all this needs to be verified and completed -> needed by Mission editor

- The ranks are done (Stripes.png for each countrie) -> For Logbook

- The awards needs to be populated if it isn't (see Afghanistan for example). -> For Logbook

- The PNG images for each award are located in ...\MissionEditor\data\images\Countries\Name_of_country\Awards (see Afghanistan, Australia for example)

- The numbers {0,1410,64,30} at the end of each countrie are the Coords of the flag in ...\MissionEditor\data\images\Countries\Flags-1.png

To test :

- You can copy/past the files into your DCS installation.

- The folowing files are over writen (Make à copy before testing) :

-- \BlackShark\data\images\Countries\Flags-1.png

-- \Scripts\World\FARP.lua

-- \Scripts\World\Countries.lua

-- \Scripts\database\db_Countries.lua

-- \Scripts\database\db_callnames.lua

-- \MissionEditor\data\MissionGenerator\GeneratorData\others.lua

-- \Sounds\Speech\common.lua

if you're using Add on - db_countries.lua

- You must copy/past the text from : \Countries\Scripts\Database\Addon-db_countries.lua

at the end of your own \Countries\Scripts\Database\db_countries.lua

db_countries.lua is the modified one it will be replaced

Limitations :

- I tryed to use the countries names for ranks but we must use DCS onces

- We are limited to 6 ranks.

- There are no skins in the pack for the planes and helicopters they must be done or converted.

- To see how to edit description.lua look #11

Edit 2012-09-02 :

- Correct some planes ex : Finland has now F/A-18-C place the skin in F/A-18C folder if you use it.

- Add some squadrons for logbook.

- Correct flag position in logbook for the 2 last countries.

Edit 2012-09-10 :

- Added squadrons and Medals for China

Hi,

I Try to add more countries to DCS.

Something is missing and i dont know where the problem is.

- Logbook is working

- Awards should also be OK.

- The countries appear in the mission editor (as neutral)

Once i add a plane in the editor, the mission editor crashes.

Once i add a car unit, I can place it in the mission editor but at startup the game go to the debriefing room.

It could be a problem with the liveries but not sure, i tryed to copy/past a plane liverie and change the countrie name but nothing changes.

Any idea ?

Hey Michelange !

Nice 2 C U R still working on your Countries Addon for DCSW

Let me check that problem...

ps.: firstly: did U check your log files ? ME.log and DCS.log ?

I am VERY interested with your progress.

Fat T is above, thin T is below. Long T is faster, Short T is slower. Open triangle is AWACS, closed triangle is your own sensors. Double dash is friendly, Single dash is enemy. Circle is friendly. Strobe is jammer. Strobe to dash is under 35 km. HDD is 7 times range key. Radar to 160 km, IRST to 10 km. Stay low, but never slow.

You're fast thank's ;)

Some tests and Update.

- The Pack is updated following your infos.

- The issues are the same.

My results (quick reply):

- At first creation in ME the game does not start. You have to exit the game and restart the ME to have a first result.

- For test i used only one country (Afgh), in this case the vehicles are in game and working.

- The symbol for F-18 appear on ME (for Australia). (I suppose new models need a specific skin)

- \FUI\Common\Flags\Flags-1.png are old flags from LO? (Italy, the new countries added by ED are not in). Any way I replaced it by my Flags-1.png

- I added the other files, but i think that this are minor corrections and do not realy impact the sim.

I suggest you to try to add only 1 or 2 countries first, maybe there are a limit with countries.

Check frequently C:\Users\"Your Name"\Saved Games\DCS\Logs\me.log

Michelange !

I tested your RAR package and...

BUG list:

1. WRONG FILENAME in Scripts/Database/Troops/A-10C/ and Scripts/Database/Troops/Ka50/

Rename Azerbaijan.lua TO Azerbaidjan.lua

2. WRONG LUA script definition in Scripts/World/FARP.lua

Check attached image !

3. Lost } sign in Sounds/Speech/common.lua file

Check Row 138 after this line: [base.country.SWITZERLAND] = unitSystems.imperial,

I repaired this bugs and everything GOOD :pilotfly:

Update #1. Thank You

Edit : The attached Skin is no more working since ED changed the F/A-18 3D model

Concerning skins :

- You can open Add on - db_countries.lua to see witch countrie short name to use.

- For example :

-- look for the line : country(_("Czech Republic"), "Czech Republic", "CZE", "Czech.png", 56, units,

-- CZE is to use in description.lua for Czech Republic skins

- Here is an example of Jack's F/A-18A Switzerland skin extract the folder and place it to \Bazar\Liveries\f_a-18c look in description.lua to see the country.

Update Message #1

- Added some squadrons

- Corrected the position of the last 2 flags in Logbook.

- Added/corrected somes planes in countries.

You can use the following skins if you edit the description.lua

- Su-25T Hungary : Edit the description.lua and change the line : countries = {"HUN",}

- F/A-18 Pack : Place the Finish skin in the F/A-18c folder the others are F/A-18a

- Ka-50 Polish Army Fictional 49Psb : Edit the description.lua and change the line : countries = {"POL",}

- Ka-50 JGSDF : Edit the description.lua and change the line : countries = {"JAP",}put it to the right country. Look in db_countrie.lua

- Ka-50 Swedish Army : countries = {"SWE",}

There are many other skins from BS1 but they have to be converted.

There are many A-10C skins you can use you have to edit the description.lua. Look the message #11 on top to see how.

Thank You.

This is a good example of what is needed to complete the pack.

I added the pictures in the pack see message #1

I take the opportunity to give an example of a addon pack that will complete the countrie with troops and awards

- For troops there is no problem you can overwrite the existing files.

- For awards you have to edit db_countries.lua and add some lines.

I don't continue to update the FC2/BS1 pack. You can use the pack below.

Some Links I used.

- This is my main source for insignia ranks : Uniform Insignia

- Medals : Medals of the world

For the moment, i will not add any more countries (if someone create all the necessary stuff, i'll add it). Waiting to see how DCS will grow, new maps, skins.

I hope that can be of help for you to complete your pack in BS2 and maybe future FC3 then.
This pack is for DCS that mean it will work with all DCS modules so far db_countries.lua will not change.

Well, since they already aren't, what's the harm in asking?

Please ED can we have some more....... Countries?

The only way to make sense out of change is to plunge into it, move with it, and join the dance.

Biggest factor in adding new countries is it being relevant (DCS module or terrain) along with whatever the appropriate art assets already in the game (3d models). Aside from that they do tend to want to have proper textures to go along with the models. Alternatively you can go the slightly fake way by having country skins available to other countries. I seem to recall some pretty nifty F-15C skins that were basically JSADF. Honestly the best way to make sure a country or object gets added for a country is to make the needed skins for it.

I to would like to see more countries/assets available, but it requires a ton of art assets.

The right man in the wrong place makes all the difference in the world.

im sure we need just a perfect example how to add a country - only one - others will be done by community members: JASDF as well
