Windows 10 feature update observations.

Hi all

Today I updated windows 10 to the new feature update

Windows 10 version 2004

I had a massive FPS decrease and was scratching my head a little, after some troubleshooting I re-applied my NVIDIA settings in the NVIDIA control panel and all was back to normal.

Just wanted to share that with you in case it is not something you have tried if you are seeing low frame rates after windows 10 feature update.

Thanks

Many thanks for these informations. As this latest feature update is now finally available for my PC I was thinking about updating if it will make things - and esp. DCS - run better.

Seems it would be better to stay with 1909 feature version for now?

And could you tell if and where this GPU scheduler could be disabled?

Now I have had time to tweak and try the features my FPS is back up to normal, so 2004 update is good for me as long as I dont use hardware accelerated GPU Scheduling, and after re-applying my NVIDIA settings.

Also, on my computer, with GPU scheduling activated and correspounding nvidia driver installed, I had A LOT of graphic driver crashes in several games/sim. Why a no go for me (I've not noticed framerate/stutters issues but maybe there were).

Since then no issues (GPU scheduling deactivated).

Schmiefel this option is not activated by default - to directly open the window where it's located, I write "paramètres graphiques" (graphical parameters ?) in windows search bar - first result displayed.

i checked my settings this morning and GPU scheduling was not enabled. i did not make this change so it must have, on my machine, not enabled at the point of 2004 update. to reiterate toutenglisse's observation and suggestion.

Interesting, as i had only gone as far as to default my nvidia CP settings so maybe i will try setting them again and see if it holds performance in DCS. Thanks for this

2004 with my warthog HOTAS won't let my PC sleep or even just let the screen timeout unless I unplug it. The problem irritated me so much I rolled back to 1909.

Happens with other stuff then the Warthog too:

Yep that's why Windows updates are disliked a lot in the power user community.

I'll be moving to a freshly installed Windows 10 with Update build of 1809 (permanently unless I install another version specifically, I don't do updates on an already deployed install), fully debloated and optimized for gaming/dev, a good comparison for DCS troubleshooting versus most of the community that moves to the latest updates.

Been using GPU scheduling in 2004 with my 2080 RTX with no issues, streaming, VR etc what display driver are you people using? 451.67 here.

451.67 here also, as soon as I turn on GPU scheduling VR stutters and my frame rate dumps

That's expected actually, the feature has to be supported by the whole pipeline and it was said officially this is only preliminary and the benefits of this will mostly be seen in the future.

Windows 10 with Feature Update 2004 and AMD Radeon Vega 56/64

Thanks to this BIGNEWY Post, I confirmed a similar performance issue with my AMD Vega 56 Bios flashed to Vega 64.

Currently using the Latest Radeon 20.7.2 Drivers (NO support for GPU SCHEDULING)

There is a Radeon 20.5.1 Beta with GPU SCHEDULING, but I do not want to use a beta driver.

After Applying the Windows 10 2004 Feature update, I noticed a 7-15 FPS drop in performance.

I did my benchmarks using F-86 and F-14 cold-start in the Caucasus map and testing with F-16 Normandy Free Flight.

Long Story short:

I used the Windows 10 Recovery Option and went back to the previous version of Windows 10 1909.

I will wait for future Radeon Driver Updates and Test GPU Scheduling On/Off when AMD makes that feature available in the next non-Beta Graphics Driver.

Cheers.

Latest windows 10 update and DCS performance

Hello community,

I installed the latest Windows 10 update today, it was a big one I guess since it made restart my computer several times. Following that my DCS world experience has encountered some major performance issues. The loading time has significantly increased and I encounter a noticeable FPS loss.

Do you guys have a solution or is it a temporary issue with every Windows 10 major update ? I was so happy with the latest update of DCS world, a lot of background work has been done and performance wise you can feel it .... now I feel that windows 10 just made everything hard to enjoy.

What do you mean by "re-applied"? Were your Nvidia settings reset to default?

I have same question. What to do with Nvidia settings should I reset to default or what. @BIGNEWY what you have done with Nvidia settings. Please explain

Win10, Intel 3rd Gen. Core i7 3.8Ghz, 20GB ram, Nvidia Geforce 1060 6GB Opentrack (Download it from HERE), PS3 Eye, Saitek x52-pro Joystick,

I had not changed my NVIDIA settings at all, they were setup how I always have them.

But after the windows update I had huge problems which went away after just re-applying the same unchanged NVIDIA Settings.
