Wow the reflections and highlights on the MiG are outstanding! That's something DCS has really needed.

So it was mentioned on the FB page that there would be bloom included in this lighting update - Does this mean we will finally see sun glinting off aircraft in the distance? Might solve a lot of the model visibility issues.

It would be great if those kind of reflections and glare could affect the cockpit view rendering.

The glass and surfaces of the dials and MFDs would look more realistic.

It's great to see those kind of improvements !

As hughlb suggested, it would be wonderful if the sunlight reflection could help spotting an aircraft in the distance (like in real life).

I have been asking for this for a while, so its my hope this will help with spotting.

Would be nice to have corrected position and strobe lights for aircrafts. This tiny shining stuff is painful in comparison to all other graphics of dcs. Realistic tanker lights for refueling at night woukd be the ice on the cake.

Well, I cant see any kind of "lighting" improvements in those pictures, I mean, it looks more like a shader kinf of improvement, and a very nice one in the mig 29 pic, now it looks like the real material of a fighter aircraft.

About the "glow" effect, well, Im not sure how good will that be for the graphical aspect of the sim, it makes things to look blurry and unrealistic (not much "glow" in real life). Also, it looks "cheap" and the kind of glow you can add with a reshade, just that.

Also, for some reason, shodows look now waaaay to blurry and low res...if you want to add realistic shadows that are not perfectly sharp (the kind of stuff nvidia PCCS/amd contact hardening shadows do) , you have to do it well, not just by blurring all the shadows contour. This not only looks also unrealistic but worse than what we have now.

Examples:

abf.jpg?m=1370457892

2kRqV0.jpg

f16doman50.jpg

As you can see, due to the nature of the environement and the kind of lighting sources (just the sun most of the time) shadows use to be quite hard all the time, and even more high in the sky. Only at sun rising/sunset, where light source is very oblique, we would see the effects of "soft shadows" in action.

It would be waaaaay better to add any kind of ambient occlusion for the lighting system, that would REALLY be an improvement. So, making shadows to look bland will just decrease shadow details and precision (look at the A-10 pic where the wing inserts with the planes body, shadow lacks a lot of precision there and thus looks incorrect).

Other than that, I cant see other changes in the pictures at all.

Just my 2 cents.

The shadow system should compensate not just for the lighting angles, as "WatermanPC" says, about the skydome reflections, clouds diffusion and thermal layering, but by the small distances even in ground at noon. Like the F-15 screenshot the vertical stabilizers shadow would get more blurred but everything else being fairly sharp. And when aircraft gets on altitude, shadow to start diminished by enlargement and distance, so you can't see so well a other aircraft by its shadow because diffraction just eliminates the shadow to some point.

Well, all these will surely improve acrobatics flying and such where you look others so close :D
