Default DCS Aware-30 v3.0 beta - radar application (UPDATE as of Sep 14, 2016)

UPDATE as of Sep. 14, 2016

The new version (3.0 beta) is available:

- Look-and-feel and various functions have been re-worked completely;
- F16 Falcon's A-G radar was used as a prototype for some features;
- Landscape contours (roads and water) are added;
- Synchronization with aircraft's locking system is implemented;

Please, see more details at the bottom of this post.

UPDATE as of Aug. 12, 2016

The new version (2.0) is available:

- GPS tracker is implemented as a separate feature;
(Allows you to register your aircraft current position at any time which results in a waypoint creation.
Waypoints are displayed as circles connected with "legs")

- Radar feature alone can now be turned off/on (via config parameter), while GPS tracker would stay enabled;
- EWR is implemented for launched missiles within 10km (will warn you no matter if a missile is launched at you or your wingman);
- Zoom to the 10km range area is implemented;
- Left row of buttons and key shortcuts are added for easy access to the application functions.

Bug fixes:

- Helicopter targets now displayed properly (as air targets).

UPDATE as of Aug. 9, 2016

The new version (1.2) is available.

- Supports helicopter modules;
- Supports Helios (ExportHelios.lua is provided);
- Displays enemy launched missiles.

UPDATE as of Aug. 4, 2016

The version 1.1a is available.

- A hot fix has been issued since flares and chaff would be displayed as
air born targets in ver 1.1.

UPDATE as of Aug. 3, 2016

The new version is available (attached to this post). Some major issues are fixed, as well as more features added:

- A better model of Mercator map projection is implemented (more accurate target positioning);
- Magnetic declination is applied (more accurate target positioning);
- Units disappear from radar screen once destroyed;
- Look and feel is improved;
- Target indicators are implemented (SAM - square, AIR - triangle, other – cross).

Make sure you replace your Export.lua with the new version.

================================================== ===========

DCS Aware-30 ver 3.0 beta - Radar/GPS-tracker application for DCS.

MAIN FEATURES

- F16 Falcon's A-G radar was used as a prototype for certain functionality;
- Displays enemy ground, and air born units within a range of 30 kilometers;
- Renders basic landscape contours (water and roads);
- includes GPS tracker;
- Allows key strokes for each button;
- Works via DCS Export.lua;
- Compatible with Helios (adapted HeliosExport.lua is provided)
- Tested against DCS 1.5.

SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS

- Java (jre 1.6.0 minimum);
- 1.2G of free RAM
- Configured Export.lua (provided within this package)

INSTALLATION AND CONFIGURATION

Step 1. Download from https://www.dropbox.com/s/0z3xa7vahx...are30.zip?dl=1

Step 2. Unzip the content of the archive into a separate folder.

Step 3. Place Export.lua into Users/<your user>/Saved Games/DCS/Scripts/

The attached Export.lua file is my working version. The host and port variables at the lines 18 and 19 can be left as is (works for most people), but if no data transfer established – please, try to change them to a different IP/port. Keep in mind, this is a “Multicast IP”, so it must be within the range of 224.0.0.0 to 239.255.255.255.
If you use one of the Helios profiles you can use a provided ExportHelios.lua instead of Export.lua.

Step 4. Edit dcsaware30.cfg:

- host and port: same values as set in Export.lua;
- x, y, size: location and size on the screen;
- debug: debug mode (1 or 0);
- map: enables/disables landscape contours (1-on, 0-off)
- showButtons: shows/hides buttons (1-on, 0-off)

The following config parameters define key strokes for the buttons:

key_rdr - RDR button (LCTRL + 1)
key_mode - GM/GMT/SEA mode button (LCTRL + 2)
key_zoom - AUTO/30/20/10 zoom button (LCTRL + 3)
key_frz - FZ button (LCTRL + 4)
key_ewr - EWR button (LCTRL + 5)
key_wpt - Waypoints button (LCTRL + 6)
key_set - Set nav point (LCTRL + 7)
key_clear - Clear nav point (LCTRL +
key_next - Next nav point (LCTRL + 9)
key_prev - Previous nav point (LCTRL + 0)
key_quit - Quit (LCTRL + x)

RUNNING

Make sure you run dcsaware30.exe before you start a mission.
Consecutive mission/DCS restarts don't require this application to be restarted.

If the application is up, but a mission has not started yet the screen will stay blank, and all the buttons (except Quit) will stay disabled. As soon as a mission has started - the app should turn into a navigation mode (radar is off), and the buttons will get enabled. If app stays blank – that is most likely an indication of either no data being sent from DCS or the application not being able to receive data from a UDP host. Please, check if the host/port values are set correctly in your Export.lua and dcsaware30.cfg.

...noticed a typo in the readme.txt. In the section 3.1. it says "Place that file into Saved Games/Scripts/", instead the path should be Saved Games/DCS/Scripts/

an additional testing by a fellow forum member showed that the radar functions correctly when a Su-25T (for reds) is played only. Will apply a fix, and issue an update early next week.

Wow, this looks interesting and very useful. I look forward to giving it a try later.

Thanks

It only works if the display is exported to a external device?

what do you mean by external device? Just to clarify - it is a standalone application, and it will display the radar screen to any position on your monitor.

Just wondering, this wouldn't pass the integrity check would it? I welcome peoples work, but could see this being used as an unfair advantage. I'm not trying to flame the op or start an argument.

The last thing I'm worried about is whether the folks are matured enough to make right decisions.

By the way, to my knowledge most of the servers force export to be turned off.

Great tool, the problem is that most of public servers have all the export options closed.
