Nvidia DSR and DCS

Recommended Posts

Well I updated to 2.1.3 but I get no option to switch between on or off in DSR Factors (DSR smoothness is also disabled). Is there something else I need to change in Control Panel?

Are you using onboard Grafics as well with you multi monitor setup?

I'm running a GTX 770 and a BenQ 27" gaming monitor with a default resolution of 1920x1080 @ 120hz.

When I adjust the DSR factor to 2x standard resolution and 33% smoothing, I get a screwy resolution of 2715x1527 available to my games. Should not the "adjusted" resolution be 2x standard (or 3840x2160)?

Anyone have an idea as to how Nvidia is calculating the "super" resolution?

Thanks.

2x is the total number of pixels (approximately). 3840x2160 is 4x because in order to get that resolution with 1080p monitors, it would take four.

Thank you Sir.

I interpret your answer to mean I'm OK (as far as DSR is concerned)

:smilewink:

Sure. As long as the resolution picked is a 16:9 then it works. The higher the resolution the better it will look when downsampled but it will cost you more in performance.

Nope. I even think my multi monitor setup hinders the DSR feature to properly work.

Well, obviousely MM Setups bring along non-standard aspect ratios.

I did a quick test and got nice fps (~48) with a new screen resolution of 4434x1871.

I really like DSR

Here is the 5K screen shot (FPS around 25-30 close to the ground)

https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/13722035/2post/dcs/dsr_5K.jpg

and 3620x2036 that totally playable (around 35-45 close to the ground and 60 in the air)

https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/13722035/2post/dcs/dsr_4k.jpg

It gives much better visibility on long distance.

My config is geforce 780, i7 3930K (OC 4.5GHz) 32GB and Dell 27 (2560x1440)

I used DSR 1.50x (smoothness 20), everything max in DCS except AA is 4x and grass turned OFF

UPD: fixed second screenshot link

Very nice! I will try to do some in-cockpit shots from several modules as soon as I return home.

yeah.. i'm really liking the DSR too

i'm finding framerates in the 30-40 range aren't smooth enough - so i opted to go with 1440p resolution

and it is... FINE!

i selected the "adaptive v sync" in the nvidia software (3D settings) - that locks the framerate to the monitor refresh rate (makes sense if you think about it) ---- i'm pretty much locked solid at 60fps - which i find very smooth

without the vsync i was getting FRs in the 70s pretty solid, at times i would see 90s, and darn if i didn't even see three-digits from time to time

its so weird when i just do old school down sampling my frame rate and gpu usage is extremely better in sli compared to dsr. Maybe the 900 series cards do have some 1 and 0 advantages written into the drivers

Do you have an AMD card? If so, how do you do the downsample?

Quick request, for someone who has DSR listing in their Nvidia Control Panel, can you post your Nvidia Control Panel version number?

Mine currently reads: v8.0.790.0

I do not see the DSR listing, even though I am at driver 344.48

Curious, if perhaps the CP requires an update?

UPDATE: I think I know what my issue is: I am running Vista 64 Ultimate. Appears DSR is only function in Win 7+

Good news, everyone!

I managed to make it work with a multi monitor setup.

It's actually pretty simple, activate DSR for the chosen monitor (by setting the desktop resolution to the highest setting) and modify your monitor setup .lua to take in account the high resolution.

In my case I use a 2560x1080 (main view) on top and a 1920x1080 on the bottom (to display MFDs and stuff).

I rewrote the monitor config .lua using resolution 3620x1527 for the top screen (DSR factor 2), it's quite easy by using a function that multiplies everything applicable by 1.414213562373 or using constants on top of the file).

Resolution set in DCS options is 3620x2607 (height = 1527+1080).

Enjoy,

P.

Oh i see, you have to set your resolution to 4K inside DCS. will give it a go thx

You're welcome!

Another way to describe it:

- set your desktop resolution to the upscaled value (it will look funny)

- start and configure DCS like you're using a monitor with higher resolution

Just tried this on BF4 quickly, at 2560x1440 it lowered the FPS far too much to be playable on my GTX680 sc, down to about mid 30's from 90. I'll try it on DCS later but this feature might have to wait until I get a 970.

Too bad it makes the radio and AWACS info so small. I can't read the bandit bearing info.

It doesn't work in windowed mode because there is nothing to downscale to. A window, by definition, is a specific size in pixels (which you define in game). Now if DSR had a way to define to he destination window size, it might be possible to make it work but right now DSR uses the monitor's native resolution as the display size, AFAIK.
