VR IMPROVEMENTS

I tried it and also saw about 20%-30% increase in performance. I also notice the "double vision" is gone. Would see a ghosting effect on fast moving objects sometimes, but that is gone.

20-30% + perf is BIG … Strange I tried some days ago and saw no perf increase at all... only the "single pass style" artefacts on left border of headmask.

Maybe dependant of user's system ?

Also, artifacts are few and far between and hardly noticeable if you arent looking for them.

One more thing to try... I'll report back when I do. Currently hoping that I uninstalled the shader mod correctly for the update today.

That depends of "angles", but yes with eyes strait forward you see them less than with eyeballs directed left or right (cause we don't see the same prtion of screen due to distances eye/lens with angles).

But "blue aera" glitch can be big enough to be an issue. (first picture ^^)

Yeah pretty much this. At least on the rift, if its not center of view its a blurry mess due to the lens design. So really that 110FOV is definately less. But you can notice stuff there and shift your focus.

Shader mod with its masks works in a similar way, you render the nice image in front, and the further out the view gets you don't need fancy details because you can't make them out anyway due to the HMD design. I had to keep shrinking the MSAA mask size smaller and smaller to even see it, then I bumped it back out a bit and my whole view looks like it has MSAA even though like only like half the pixels are getting it, but the remaining pixels already look bad due to the optics, so who cares what they look like.

Tried it. No visual artifacts worth mentioning. I do see a few frames more with the gaz. And the 21 is more flyable now, smoothish 30s.

I didn't notice any difference with it but I'm a bit CPU limited with a Ci5-3570K@4.3Ghz.

With my setup I didn’t notice a big change and in one of my test (over the Caucuses map) it even decreased FPS and introduced some shutters.

Gave it a try too. It introduced some stutters (which I rarely suffer from) and the edge of frame artifacts were horrible.

Are you guys with artifacts running monitors or VR?

I only run VR. I just tried it out of curiosity, I'm fortunate to get great frame rates and smooth projection, but any promised upgrade is worth checking out :)

For me, it was a downgrade I'm afraid.

Cheers

Weird, I haven't seen any artifacts aside from the load screens, or maybe once or twice at the very edge of my peripheral vision.

  • 1 month later...

Gave the 'stereo_mode_use_shared_parser = true' a go for quite some time now, and would occasionally switch it off ( = false) to see if I noticed a performance difference, and I did, but it was hard to set my finger on it. Then at some point during the first hours with the Tomcat, I had the '2nd' frame counter visible and noticed a 267k Trg count for the cockpit. Then today I was running with parser false, and noticed a 535k cockpit and was a little, huh?

So back to back, and sure enough, 'stereo_mode_use_shared_parser = true' cuts the polycount in half, which makes perfect sense, since its only chewing on one viewport.

So its not like you always get a fps increase (or decrease), but a polycount cut in half will certainly help you in the polycount intensive scenes/frames, like on a ramp or carrier with a lot of statics around etc. Or just give a nice overhead. 3 mil count is approx my threshold for dropping into the 30 fps region for example.

Attached 4 shots showing the 2nd framecounter. The lowest Trg counts are with = true, and the high counts are with = false. And totally ignore the fps. Seems it dipped during the screenshot or loaded some stuff in. So ignore. Trg count is what matters in these scenarios.

I am not aware that as yet any VR gloves work well with DCS . Captoglove has been around the longest , and has some DCS support , but users report very limited utility at this time . There is a new kid on the block , i think called VR Glove , but no user reports yet . Oculus is said to be working on a VR gllove solution as well , but i have not yet read of a timeline .

Hi guys,

I rarely comment on the forums so please don't jump down my throat!

I had a question I was hoping my fellow enthusiasts could help me with: does anyone know what VR gloves C.W. Lemoine "Mover" is using in a number of his DCS F-18 videos?

I split my time between TrackIR and the Oculus Rift in the F-14 (the former for training, and the VR for immersive missions), but the touch controllers I have are clumsy. These tactile gloves seem like a brilliant addition to the VR experience, but I seem to be going in circles trying to find the answer I want.

Any advice/assistance would be much appreciated! What a truly golden age of flight simulation we have at the moment.

I'd be interested too.
