2560x1440 or 3440x1440

Recommended Posts

Hi there

I don’t recommand a 3440x1440 21/9, because you don’t really enjoy it vs a 16/9, I’ll try to explain:

I have a 21/9 and a 16/9 so I was able to compare.

You don’t enjoy the extra width as the cockpit frame is all over the sides of the monitor.

As soon as I get close to my computer, I’ll upload a picture to illustrate ;)

So my recommandation for DCS is to go for 2560x1440, for some other games 21/9 is gorgeous

I'm almost certain it's a problem with your view settings, most probably incorrect FOV for a wide screen monitor.

Changing FOV is a must if changing a monitors with a different aspect ratio.

F/A-18, F-16, F-14, M-2000C, A-10C, AV-8B, AJS-37 Viggen, F-5E-3, F-86F, MiG-21bis, MiG-15bis, L-39 Albatros, C-101 Aviojet, P-51D, Spitfire LF Mk. IX, Bf 109 4-K, UH-1H, Mi-8, Ka-50, NTTR, Normandy, Persian Gulf... and not enough time to fully enjoy it all

I got a really great deal on a Dell S2716DG last night.

It has 2560x1440, 144Hz, G-sync, I know its not a IPS panel but the deal that I got was too good.

Cant wait to ditch my old 1920x1080 60Hz monitor.

21:9 is 30% wider, in terms of FOV. That is only 15% per side.

The next problem is that you are still working with a screen that has little height compared to what you are trying to view. In a racing sim, and other land based games, this works quite well since most everything is on the same plane. However, in a flight sim, you need as much spatial awareness in the vertical plane along with the horizontal and you will find that lack to be significant in aerial combat.

I know this thread is a little old but I was wondering what the result was? I have a 34” 3440x1440 with g-sync and have all kind of problems. There is nothing I can do to not have super jagged shadows. I have spent literally hours changing settings. Nothing works. I have a i7-8700k overclocked, water cooled and an RTX 2080 ti. The system is no slouch but it’s still no good. The only thing I can figure is that the 21:9 is scaling in such a way it’s causing the shadows to render that way. It’s just the shadows. I can run everything on max and don’t have a problem maintaining 100 FPS. Anyone else experience this?

Ravenndd, Suggest you start a completely new topic rather than bring up this old thread which also has no relation to your question. Your jagged shadows problem would have nothing to do with resolution format. It would be a settings issue in either the game or Nvidia settings.
