With the release of the Hornet, DCS supports ICLS.

The sources I've found suggest the AV-8B AWLS uses the AN/ARA-63 and the same ICLS frequencies as the Hornet.

The ARA-63 uses signals transmitted from either carrier or ground-based approach radars such as the SPN-41 and TPN-30. The ARA-63 has a 20-channel capability in the 15.412 to 15.688 GHz frequency range.

These frequencies are different to ILS,

ILS

Localizer (LOC) and glide slope (G/S) carrier frequencies are paired so that the navigation radio automatically tunes the G/S frequency which corresponds to the selected LOC frequency. The LOC signal is in the 110 MHz range while the G/S signal is in the 330 MHz range.

So, like the Hornet, shouldn't the AV-8B's AWLS be limited to suitably equipped CV, LHA, AWLS stations, etc ?

Is the AV-8B's AWLS considered WIP, so likely to be made compatible with ED's ICLS implementation with similar limitations ?

Edit for info: Expeditionary Airfield Assets

Perhaps Razbam could add a AN/TPN-30B (AWLS/TACAN)

with a AN/TSQ-216 Remote Landing Site Tower (RLST)

or a full Expeditionary Airfield ICLS/TACAN/ACLS (AN/TSQ-131 Command & Control System, AN/TPN-107 ASR Radar and AN/TPN-22 PAR Radar)

if ED/DCS can support ground units with the same ME ICLS/TACAN/Radio options as naval assets and the same unit logic as SAM's for grouping ATC C+C, ASR and PAR for functional ICLS ?

The mission designer would need to align the ground unit i.e. AN/TPN-30 with the desired approach bearing as is done IRL.

Obviously, any additional Expeditionary Airfield assets created for the Harrier, should work with the Hornet and/or F-14

I'm curious, as the poll is almost 50:50

How would those who voted for the Harrier AWLS microwave landing system to remain modelled as a ILS, handle case 3 ICLS recoveries to the Tarawa, etc. ?
