Hi everyone, and a very happy new year to you all.

After squirrelling away some funds I finally have my gaming PC arriving any day, and the first thing I’ll be doing is downloading DCS. I’ve also ordered the X56 Rhino HOTAS, and will eventually get round to Track IR and the Delan clip.

Experience-wise I used to fly gliders and occasional chipmunks with the air cadets as a youngster, and did a fair bit of flying on MS flight sim ‘04. Watching the Reapers and Growling Sidewinder YouTube vids has really got me itching to get involved with DCS.

My plan for now is to get to grips with flying circuits with the Frogfoot before moving on to more advanced Nav and then ground attack. I know I have a lot of learning to do, but I’m really looking forward to it all.

Once I’ve got the basics of flight down I’d love to get online with some other pilots, so I’ll keep an eye on the forums for anyone that fancies some social flying & learning.

Hoping to have everything up and running by Thursday, but for now I wish you all the best and look forward to seeing some of you in the skies soon.

Glad to have you onboard mate

With your previous experience in aviation you should be up & flying pretty quick.

The Su-25T is a real nice airplane and it will teach you a lot in terms of energy management, general flying, A2G and also avoiding those hairy A2A engagements in a Su25T loaded like a truck :joystick:

Thanks guys. I look forward to getting shot out of the sky by you!

Latest news is that the monitor is arriving tomorrow, so I should be airborne by Thursday. Not that I’m excited or anything... ;)

3 things to your rig:

1. You will likely need a SSD to avoid stutter and loading issues

2. Your PSU is borderline quality, maybe you can exchange it even when delivered.

3. YOU ORDERED THE WRONG RAM-KIT !!!

Your motherboard only has 2 Dimm-Slots but you have ordered a 4-Module (4x8GB) kit !!!!

If i was you, I'd keep the RAM and go for a proper mainboard with a proper chipset which allows overclocking.

B360 is not a good choice. See if you can manage to exchange it, even if you have to keep the borderline PSU for a while

and have to suffer from Non-SSD driven DCS. Those can be fixed later with minimal effort.

Thanks dude.

The company building the PC assured me that it’s overclocked and will cope with DCS just fine, but I’ve sent them your pointers to hopefully get it resolved before I plug in for the first time.

Thanks for looking out!

Good catch BitMaster! I was looking through the list and just thaught "it's OK for DCS" :)

Hybrid disk may still cut it.

All appears to be sorted now. Got a 500gb SSD built in, and the RAM is 2x16GB. Guy building it said that they’ve had 1x failure out of 500+ builds with the PSU, so I’m gonna stick with that and the motherboard until the time comes when I can upgrade. HOTAS is ready for collection, PC should be done by Thurs, fingers crossed.

Something tells me I won’t be getting much daylight for my next few days off ;)

Bring on the Frog!

I might be wrong, but that motherboard wont allow any overclcking as it is a B360 "locked" chipset. I might be wrong, maybe others can chime in.

I just dont like the idea of "we overclock it 4 you" marketing when parts of the HW wont allow any sort of overclocking.

Afaik, B360 will only allow FSB oc, which is a pure No-Go for current chips as far as stable oc is concerened. If your FSB is not 100MHz, they might have just done that and sorry, partly fooled you.

Need to check how B360 behaves....

my 1st hit on google: https://www.techspot.com/review/1603-intel-b360-chipset/

They fool you if they say it's overclocked, maybe XMP has been activated, but that is not overclocking in it's real meaning, it's a 30 second job and rather default than overclocking.

Thanks dude.

I’ll take her for a spin tomorrow night, and report back if I encounter any issues.

If it comes to it I’ll take it back in and get the motherboard sorted.

Get CPU-Z and/or HWinfo and use it's info to see what they did to your CPU.

Will do!

Don’t think I’ll have too much trouble getting the Frog airborne, and ground-pounding should be alright once I’ve sorted the HOTAS. Once I can land her consistently I’ll be in touch :)

Good service, however it does seem that I’m having crash/stutter issues with DCS :(

Everything else seems more the sufficient for the job, so I suspect it’s the motherboard as I was advised on here. Should have listened!

Motherboard the culprit for crash/stutter?

Wild guess or 100% sure because just changing it might not solve your problem and will cost you money for nothing.

Crash = not normal, stutter more likely a settings problem withing DCS (doesn't have to be, often is).

Win11 Pro 64-bit, Ryzen 5800X3D, Corsair H115i, Gigabyte X570S UD, EVGA 3080Ti XC3 Ultra 12GB, 64 GB DDR4 G.Skill 3600. Monitors: LG 27GL850-B27 2560x1440 + Samsung SyncMaster 2443 1920x1200, HOTAS: Warthog with Virpil WarBRD base, MFG Crosswind combat pedals, TrackIR4, Rift-S.

Personal Wish List: A6 Intruder, Vietnam theater, decent ATC module, better VR performance!

Hold that thought...could it have anything to do with the fact that I just noticed that I hadn’t activated Windows?! Watch this space

No. But you could run some benchmarks to test hw stability first. Something that'll make it sweat for a couple of hours.

  • 2 weeks later...

All running like a peach thanks to a couple of legends on here checking my crash logs and spotting one obvious flaw with my setup...I’d plugged the monitor into the motherboard and not the graphics card. Told you I was a noob! :)

Thanks to everyone for their help and suggestions.
