DCSW performance in Windows 7 and Windows 10

It could very well be, that I'm a slowpoke, but I would like to share my findings:

I compared running DCSW on Windows 7 and Windows 10 using FRAPS with identical options.

Ryzen 1700@Default Ram 1866

Windows 7

2017-03-23 21:58:10 - DCS

Frames: 4980 - Time: 60000ms - Avg: 83.000 - Min: 68 - Max: 96

Windows 10

2017-03-27 20:59:25 - DCS

Frames: 5373 - Time: 60000ms - Avg: 89.550 - Min: 69 - Max: 105

A nice increase, though minimal for Min.

Ryzen 1700@3.7 Ram 2666

Windows 7

2017-03-25 13:40:05 - DCS

Frames: 5277 - Time: 60000ms - Avg: 87.950 - Min: 70 - Max: 107

Windows 10

2017-03-27 21:17:23 - DCS

Frames: 5605 - Time: 60000ms - Avg: 93.417 - Min: 73 - Max: 117

The same increase, though Min got a bit of a boost.

In a nutshell - simply moving from Windows 7 to Windows 10 (which I was forced to do, since my new Samsung SM961 SSD refused to work under Windows 7) resulted in a nice FPS increase in DCSW :-)

I'd say keep on going Microsoft! :-)

P.S. Windows 7 was running on a Samsung 840 Pro 128Gb SSD, Windows 10 was on a Samsung SM961 256Gb, hopefully this isn't the case? The rest of the hardware is identical.

Thanks for sharing ... I've lately been tempted to upgrade to Windows 10, since the job reasons that kept me using Windows Server are no longer valid ...

... but just thinking about reinstalling every game and application gets me tired before starting ... my Windows is running just fine and with zero problems, so I think that I will wait for a better reason to upgrade OS ... perhaps when I can bet a bigger SSD drive :)

Thanks anyway, at least I now know that I wont be losing gaming performance when I do switch OS on the future.

For work: iMac mid-2010 of 27" - Core i7 870 - 6 GB DDR3 1333 MHz - ATI HD5670 - SSD 256 GB - HDD 2 TB - macOS High Sierra

Ram Speeds make the biggest difference.

Higher Ram Profile, = Higher Infinity Fabric Speeds = Smoother Thread management across the CCXs

Windows 10 Pro, Ryzen 2700X @ 4.6Ghz, 32GB DDR4-3200 GSkill (F4-3200C16D-16GTZR x2),

ASRock X470 Taichi Ultimate, XFX RX6800XT Merc 310 (RX-68XTALFD9)

I used the upgrade route with minimum fuss and the benefits of W10 where immediately apparent especially using the rift. everything is way faster in regard to operating system and games I play.

It is also still free if you have need of one of the assisted technology. Like bad eyesight;)

CCXs?

AMD Ryzen is Fab'd in Groups of 4,

the Ryzen 8 Core CPUs, are 2 CCX's Connected Thru AMD Infinity Fabric,

The Infinity Fabric Scales with the Ram Profile (DDR1866, DDR2133,DR2666,DDR3200, DDR3600,DDR3866, DDR4000 etc etc)

The Higher the Ram Speed, the Higher the Infinity Fabric Bandwidth between each CCX of the CPU.

and as Noted,

the Ryzen CPU's are not supported on Windows 7.

Just don't actually use an upgraded machine. Nuke the machine and then install clean or it will come back to bite you, hard.

eehhhhh OK !

I have to admit this install ran on 3 boards, MSI Z170 M9 ACK, Asus Maximus Extreme Z170 and now this Z270 by Asus.

All I did was removing the drivers AFTER it booted, reboot again, install the new drivers matching the board and let it be.

Win10 is a lot more abstract compared to previous windows and as long as you know what you are doing it's all fine doing this.
