Silkworm Anti-Ship Cruise Missle

I was scratching my head thinking why would china develop an anti cruise ship missile, must be a bit slow this morning!

Is this missile a skimmer or something else? What is the intention, another weapon to increase the depth of the sim or can they be targets for your aircraft to intercept?

I am curious because at the moment Naval operations are pretty limited to launching aircraft which can be done out of range of these, so if you are going to be getting in close to these, what do you think we might be doing?

Operated by Iran along it’s coastal regions, the HY-2 is ground-launched and is a significant threat to shipping in the Persian Gulf, and specifically, passing through the Strait of Hormuz.

I think it's more that these were specifically necessary to accurately model an engagement with Iran given it's one of their primary defences, especially for future campaigns being created for the PG map. They'll make for nice missions for the Hornet to take out with HARMs or LGBs.

The Silkworm is the Chinese version of the SS-N-2 Styx/ P-15 Termit.

It was one of the first (or the first) successful anti-ship missile in action by sinking Israeli destroyer Eilat in 1967.

Silkworm is indeed interesting for Persian Gulf map in a specific timeframe.

Today Iran is rather using Chinese C-802 and some derivatives variants.

Various land based anti-ship missiles are used around the world. It's not that uncommon. The silkworm specifically is indeed a much needed asset for the PG map, which has been requested in the past.

Naval ops in DCS are not just limited to launching aircraft from ships. If you haven't noticed, surface naval warfare is pretty well simulated in DCS with ships beeing able to attack each other with anti-ship missiles, as well as defending against such attacks.

DCS Panavia Tornado (IDS) really needs to be a thing!

Thanks, for the sharing.

A good exemple on how the press isn’t always as smart as they think in maters they don’t master at all:

The Ayatollah Khomeini seems to be on a roll. With a handful of Silkworms, a couple dozen speedboats and some mines, he`s shown the mighty U.S. Navy to be less ready for guerrilla war at sea than the U.S. Army was prepared for small-scale combat in Vietnam.
