  • ED Team
The last I remember reading, the the current map and terrain will continue to use the old engine, while Nevada would use Edge.

...but, "Everything is subject to change."

Pretty sure they stated that the current map would have to be completely re-created in order to take advantage of EDGE and that was not going to happen.

You can pretty much dismiss any news that you hear that doesn't come straight from ED themselves as false. :)

Thanks for obnoxiously pointing out the reason I used that word in the first place.

I was actually trying to answer in a lighthearted humorous way....apparently it did not come across as intended :(

Perhaps it needs to spawn its own thread (or perhaps it already has its own thread somewhere I haven't seen) but are there ways to use things like Prepar3d to import map data into DCS?

It is designed for Prepar3d only AFAIK. Besides, until EDGE/Nevada comes out nobody knows how to build DCS terrain.

Terrain creation uses 3ds max, but there are no public plugins available

Can you honestly be certain that no one really knows how to build DCS level terrain?..not saying i do because i don't but im sure there are a few outsiders that possibly can?

Without the requisite information from ED (see LuckyBob's post above), yes I am sure.

I would imagine that plenty of people could build terrain for DCS...but they'd need the tools from ED to do so. There are a few threads buried around here with some potential terrain projects that were seemingly left behind. Seems the upcoming release of EDGE has been a deterrent for the few developers out there and for good reason I suppose.
