Mission 6 Help

Recommended Posts

It sure is a tough one - with A-10's going aggro on you with sidewinders. Not gonna lie - probably took me a dozen tries before getting it right.

On the other hand - it was extremely frustrating. But on the other hand - also very educating. I suck at dogfighting but I learned some basics how to handle MiG-15 in a dogfight -- and it was a thrill.

Absolutely brilliant campaign BTW - I was bit on the edge when I bought it that what it was all about... but it has hooked me from the first mission. Just beautifully made. Thanks!

Still broken - Just tried this mission and got taken out twice four times by heaters launched at me as soon as I was airborne (and one gun) and heading south. How exactly are we supposed to fight multiple Mig-29's in a Sabre? I am stoked you like the aircraft so much, but I think the pedastal you have placed it on might be a little too high.

Also, what happened to "the attacking aircraft are bugging out...engage the 3 from the south". Do I stay and dogfight Gen 4 fighter aircraft with heat seeker missiles, or go after the ones to the south? (scratch that - there isn't a choice - they chase you either way - high or low...whatever) I did notice the aircraft that shot missiles at me on previous attempts de-spawned on one of the tries....so perhaps supposed to happen every time (but its not)?

Also, not digging the SU-25's which also just go fully ballistic with a full weapons load.....really?, GG DCS UFO physics.

Also FYI your morse code for homebase NDB is incorrect in the kneeboard pages.

Edit - Couple of Tacviews for ya also....fun times. Notepad++ edit campaign inbound....

I'll take a look at what's going on.   The mission was originally designed so that when the player went airborne, the 1st wave of attackers were retreating and out of range (and de-spawn as you saw if other values weren't met ...  It seems that a trigger must have broke with one of the updates.)   It was never my intent for you to mix it up with MiG-29's, that would be ridiculous.
Unfortunatly the Su-25 flight physics are pretty much out of my control.  But I'll see if there's something on my end to tune their F-22 capability.
I appreciate the report of the incorrect NDB.  Thought I fixed all those pesky things a couple months ago.

Thanks Apache. Yea I think maybe a trigger for when the Sabre exceeds say 50 knots or something during takeoff run. As it stands now it seems there are a whole bunch of aircraft (perhaps too many for a 'sneak' airfield attack - just a few strikers seems more legit) just loitering around the airfield when you get airborne, and don't 'despawn' till you exceed 800' or so. So if you try to run south low-level they follow/launch heaters at you. Also once they are engaged with you it seems they stay regardless - see my 2v1 against 2 Mig-29's (thought I had them! lol) Tacview vid.

Yea I noticed the incorrect morse signal on the KB in about half of the missions or so up to this point. IIRC you have ... ---- or something.

Aside from the utter frustration in that one mission (heater in the face 3 seconds after airborne will do that to you lol), really liking the Campaign so far! On the plus side - the multiple retries for that one have me up and running in record time now!

Some of the triggers start when the Player leaves the ramp, others happening at 25+ knots, while other's fire off at a certain height.   Though I gotta see what triggers those MiG-29's are tied to.

Well, lemme check the morse code again.   I switched them all as a document I had in the past was incorrect, and I got them all adjusted.  Wonder if they switched with an update.
I'll get back to ya when I figure some more of this out.

Alright, I flew the mission a few times last night and found that it is highly dependent on how quickly you get off the ground.  Here's my findings:
  a)  First attempt -  I hung out for a bit and watch the fireworks.   There's a lot going on in this first minute.  I started the aircraft at about the same speed I normally do, and then watched some of the SAM's and AAA fire ... because it's neat.   Taxied at a normal pace to the runway suggested by the controller, and took off.  I had no issues.  The entire first wave of attackers was retreating, and the MiG-29's were miles and miles away.
   b) Second attempt - I hurried it a bit.  Did everything from the first attempt a bit quicker.  An aircraft from the first wave was flying overhead when I started my takeoff roll.   I still had no issue with MiG-29's and all the enemies retreated or despawned appropriately.
   c) Third attempt -  God the aircraft started as quickly as possible, taxied out to the long straight taxiway and took off from that.   Looked over my shoulder at about 200 ft AGL and there was a MiG-29 on my butt with an R-60 already half way to me.

In a future update, I'll lower the "despawn" altitude, so if the player rushes it, and gets up quicker than I anticipated when making this mission, it won't end their world.   I recommend just watching the chaos for a moment, take it easy taxing to the runway the controller recommends, and take it from there.   The first wave should have disengaged and started flying away from Sochi by that point.

Cheers Apache - generally when you are getting the sh!t bombed out of you, the last place you want to be is 'hanging out for a bit watching the fireworks' lol. Just the thought of ex-air force aircrew for you 😉. I always taxied out left then right to the intersection and departed from there as requested.

In any case, by the tenth time trying it I was sorta over it and it was just 'kick the tires, light the fires and GTFO' - you have seen my TacView files so can place where I was in the 'scheme' of things. So prob airborne a bit quicker than 'average'.

My personal opinion is you don't really need a bunch of Mig-29's 'hanging around' anyway, they would escort the strikers in, encounter no air resistance then bug out 'during' the bombing due to bingo lol :) . But oty. loving the Campaign in any case - thanks for your work!
