Normandy Map Discussion

Very much agree. Single install, Normandy map and Spitfire plus all other WWII aircraft. I hope very much that we can all come together as a community on a single one track installation to fly warbirds. Otherwise we will have an unwanted extended period of disjointed activity/lack of activity, that will further put off the potential for an inclusive customer base.

I will not mess about with multiple installations.

Happy landings,

Hi Talisman, it was actually you and the rest of 56RAF I had in mind when I asked the question. I could see what might be coming and I know how keen we are to get online with Normandy which you won't be able to when it first comes out unless you install 2.0. So, sadly it looks as though you will have to wait for 2.5/2017 to be able to use Normandy.

Multiple installations, i.e. 1.5 and 2.0, are easy enough to do, there's no magic, just download and install 2.0 but it's of no value without either NTTR or Normandy (eventually).

It's just the disk space that might be a problem for some. I have 1.5 and 2.0 although my 'Sim' SSD is almost full as a result.

Hear, Hear!

ED are missing out on $$$ here. I've been on the cusp of buying The Vegas Map quite a few times just for pootling around sight-seeing, but I'm not downloading an "early access" (or what we used to know as a Beta Release) to play it on - particularly as it seems to be an entirely separate install. I'll stick to flying over Neverheardofitistan instead.

I do hope Normandy et al will be released to run on the current general release of the game, or they will not be bought until they are!

(It seems now that poor 2.0 won't even get a general release, being leapfrogged by 2.5...)

I thought 2.5 was still going to be released this year.

Apparently not anymore: https://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=2937218&postcount=779

But pls no discussion about it here. It's off topic and has been discussed in-depth elsewhere.

Heard of, yes; been there, or want to go there... er, no. Mind you, I've heard of Siberia too, but I wouldn't get excited over the place names. Put it this way, I didn't even know there had been a "Russian invasion of Georgia in 2008" until I read the DCS blurb. Same place, innit? I mean, Uncle Joe (Stalin) was a Georgian/Russian/Whatever.

Now, I know that ED are a Russian outfit, so it probably had a spot more relevance to them than it does to me. However, one has to think of bums-on-seats; where has the buying public heard of? By way of example, if a British company was to produce a Falklands-themed map that might well tug at the heartstrings of Brits (and Argentinians, wanting Round 2), but I doubt that many other people would find the drab mountainous terrain particularly interesting to fly over.

Normandy? Good choice, from that perspective. Varied terrain, and more people tend to have heard of A) WW2 and, B) France. Hence why it might be a good idea to get it up and running on the basic install asap.

A Falkland map would be totally awesome and thank god it's already planned by a british 3rd party company:

[...]

I am well aware of developments in dcs including ww2.

If you would like it in a statement then I am happy for you to quite that VEAO is dedicated to making military spec Simulations for Dcs for a wide variety of aircraft ranging from early ww2 through to the modern age. We will be developing a number of maps for Dcs including the Falkland Islands and north Africa.

[...]

Nothing definitive has been said about what units will arrive with the map mwd2. I suspect, as usual, it'll be an ongoing thing. There are already a few WW2 vehicles available as mods. I recall there is a late model PzKpfw IV, a Jeep and some other goodies.

You're going to ask me where you can find them next, so here they are...

BMW Motorbike: https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/files/2144724/

Heinkel 111: https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/files/1985066/

Sherman: https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/files/1193839/

That's all I can find right now, but I think it'll be enough to be going on with

Don't know if I'm going too far, but after today's newsletter, have we to expect Normandy map to be released before 2017 2.5 and not far from Spitfire? Hope so :D. Anyway, we're getting closer  .

Any information/confirmation that Normandy will be a 2.0 Map only at release like Nevada? I haven't been keeping my 1.5 installation up to date as I never really fly it... Nevada is just too pretty.

Definitely purchasing the Spit while it's on sale, but I'd hate to miss out on a nice Spit + Normandy bundle price.

The newsletter simply says they are prioritising the Spitfire and Normandy map ahead of 2.5 which won't be out until 2017. That doesn't exactly say the Spit and Normandy will be out this year. So let's not get our knickers in a twist over that.

Normandy may not be, but the Spit has already been announced for December 16th.

Well, you're right, just thinking out loud :smilewink:. But summarising, they delay 2.5 for 2017, that's a couple of months mates not a whole year again (not only 2017 is at a couple of months throw of stone, but they state that timetable for the new Georgia map work), although still they expect releasing Normandy before 2.5 but we have to suppose after Spitfire dated for 16th of December :shifty:. One never knows, but that's close  .
