terminator363
Where are parachutes usually dropped off after landing on Russian aircraft? I suppose not on the runway or else it would block traffic. Does anyone know if there is a designated area for pilots to drop their landing chutes? Happy Bug Hunting! GGTharos
They probably designate a procedure and area for a given airport. rrohde
I have seen videos where they drop them after exiting the RWY, some ways into the first taxiway. Quadg
you normally drop it as you begin your turn onto the taxi way. then your jet wash blasts it off the runway. instead of back down the runway and into the way of the next guy landing. OverStratos
There´s a section of the runway to do this, usually near the main ramp. There´re two to three men staying next to the runway that care of this. They recover the chutes and prepare them to be used again and use a van, jeep or a donkey moved cart (in some exotic airbases):D to give them to aircraft technicians. Lixma 06
I know it's 60 years ago and in the USA but here's a clip of F-100s bringing their chutes 'home'. @5:
