Will it also copy over all my installed modules from 2.2 to 2.5 Final

MY SUPPORT QUESTION TO DCS

INFORMATION: Only have DCS World 2.2 Open Alpha installed and will do big update to DCS World 2.5 Final after it is released. Am aware that installer will copy over some files from 2.2 which will include my Nevada and Normandy maps, as well as: C:\Users\Gary\Saved Games\DCS.openalpha content. PLEASE UNDERSTAND I did a fresh install of 2.2 open alpha some time ago to a new SSD and have not changed drive letters or copied install to another drive or anything like that, so my registry entries should match the game location correctly.

QUESTION: Will it also copy OVER ALL MY INSTALLED MODULES from 2.2 to 2.5 Final ??

Hi

when you update dcs 2.5 will search for other DCS installations and copy some files from them, it will then download the remainder from our update server.

DCS 2.5 will ask you if you wish to delete 2.2 or not.

If you decide not to delete 2.2 when prompted DCS 2.5 will search for the modules when you install them using the module manager in 2.5

If you decide to delete 2.2 when prompted your modules will be downloaded from our update servers when using the module manager.

I hope that helps clear things up for you.

Kind regards

I am not 100% sure vanilla 2.5 OB is 100 GB in download. I THINK that when I started install it said that it will download somewhere around 25 GB, Mind you, this a clean install of 2.5 OB what I did, I had no previous versions or modules installed.

I own everything (to my recollection) from what ED sells under DCS and that includes NTTR as well. But what I have said was this: I had no previous versions or modules installed. NTTR is sold as a module.

I did see that you said you had no previous modules installed, but I asked because NTTR on its own is more than 33 GB, so I guess there was a lot more downloaded through module manager on top of that 25 GB.

Nope?

The guide wouldn't have worked for 2.2 because there is no 2.2 open beta.

If you install 2.5 OB, it should take what it needs from 2.2. The way to be sure is to make sure the registry entry here is correct. Alternatively, just check the size of the download when the OB starts downloading. If you have NTTR and your modules installed in your 2.2 installation, the 2.5 OB should be less than 40 GB. If it is more than that, cancel the download and go back and check the registry entries.

I have all three versions of DCS installed. Which version's "Controller Settings" will be used after installing the "Release 2.5" version?

I use mostly OB, so I don't want to have to redo my settings in the Release 2.5...

Whichever branch you update to 2.5 Release will keep its controller settings. If you would like to replace OB when 2.5 release becomes available and you want the OB controller settings from OB in 2.5, you can use the command line to update your OB to Release by following Skatezilla's guide here.

Alternatively you can copy your OB controller settings to the release version. To do this:

1. Update to 2.5 Release (when available)

2. Go to C:/Users/Yourusername/Saved games/DCS.openbeta/Config/Input (replacing "Yourusername" with your actual username)

3. Go to C:/Users/Yourusername/Saved games/DCS/Config/Input (replacing "Yourusername" with your actual username)

4. Paste the copied folders

Want to know when I run the 2.5 Beta/Final installer WILL IT GIVE ME A CHOICE AS TO WHICH HARD DRIVE I WANT TO INSTALL IT TO??

My current 2.2 Open Alpha is on my C drive; but I want DCS World 2.5 Final to be on a separate SSD; not my current C drive.

You can try at the start of the installation to change path in the other drive, if its is no possible stop the installation procedure....

You could, by changing the release branch using Skate Zillas tool, but given the problems some people are having with 2.5 Beta, I would be patient for them to get some more bugs worked out. If you wipe your release version then find problems with 2.5, you'll be up the creek without a paddle. I am sticking with my 2.2 install for the time being for that reason.

That's precisely what I did. I downloaded 1.5.8 anew, installed it, then upgraded it to 2.5 OB.

I did that because I only had 2.2 installed and didn't want to wait to try the OB. Then once I knew 2.5 worked fine and I'd copied my mods, missions, skins, input profiles etc I deleted 2.2.

Defintelye, i will wait for 2.5 release

I too am anxiously awaiting the 2.5 release before updating my 2.2. Is there even a remote idea of a time frame for this release?

If you think your system can deal with the memory leak and other issues and you have space for a second DCS install I’d suggest installing the beta if you don’t want to wait. My system (specs in my sig) is running it well and I can only remember one crash.

As far as I’m aware the last official word on timeframe was that they felt committing to a timeframe for a bug-free release of 2.5 stable wasn’t possible yet. I suggest you watch the weekend news emails for updates.
