I hope that members will act responsibly also respect what Miles is doing for them and the community and not create more work for him. Yes, they will have to add their forum name as a note on the Paypal payment to confirm who they are.

Although I don't think anyone would (I like to think we have a great and fair community on the ED forum) be thinking of using another member's name further up the list, but if so, they should be very careful if caught out they may find themselves banned from the forum I don't think ED will take to kindly to that kind of practice nor the person whose name they use.

Out of the 190 already on the list, many will not purchase immediately, some will wait for feedback, others maybe not at all so I don't think the wait is going to be that long to start with.

I would suggest patience is the way. We will get Point Ctrl when MilesD thinks it is ready and to each when it is their turn.

Cheers FireCat.

Shoot, I never would have even thought of that. My brain just isn't wired that way...Been waiting months, I can wait a couple weeks more for the final product.

Thanks for the feedback and the great questions.

On full brightness, always on, the FCU should last 3 hours on a full charge

1/2 brightness, allays on, the FCU should last 5 hours with a slight loss of cursor resolution

FCU on while LED is off 36 hours.

Time-out adjustment is in 10 sec intervals up 240 seconds , and then always on.

The timer resets with every button press so if it is set to 20 seconds and you press a button you have another 20 seconds before it times out. 40 seconds seems to be a good time-out for me

My concern was the early supporters not getting the most features. Based on your feedback, I think I will press on with the FCU's as is. And those that choose to purchase the first units can send them back for reprogramming at a later date if they want to.

I am done with College finals this week, so should have more time to start cranking these things out.

Thanks again everyone,

Miles

The consumer in me says "Awesome".

The more business minded person in me says "Bad idea, creating far more work for yourself, at the least the buyers will need to pay for shipping and a small fee for any upgrades that are not the result of a defect".

I know what I'm signing up for, so long as it works as advertised, I'll be happy and don't expect much future support unless something breaks. :D

Personally I think it would be a better idea for the FCU turn on automatically when it comes into view of the HMS - it would just make the product more fluid to use - as long as there’s no lag and the FCU turns on straight away. I don’t have a problem in any way using a button to turn the FCU on but it’s one less thing to think about doing. And if Miles can have that programmed quickly then the more polished PointCTRL will be at final production.

Just my thought anyways

In that final link, we'll be able to select the model, I'm assuming? CV1, vs Pimax vs Generic etc? I'm in the 20's so getting excited. And need the generic.

No worries, I will probably be in contact with all of the purchasers of the first units anyway.

UPDATE: I just posted the first instructional video, I will use a better camera next time, but I think its serviceable for now.

An excellent tutorial, explains and shows how easy the FCU's will be to adjust and set up. Nice one Miles.

Hey Miles/Firecat

First wanna say that SUPER EXCITED about this product! Can't wait to get my hands on this (or should I say get it on my hands!). I was wondering to the timing of order fulfillment. It sounds like go-live shipping will be happening here in the next week or so but I was curious to the cadence of shipments? Will this be in 10/wk or 20/week batches?

I'm in the top 100 & will buy on the day I'm allowed but I'm in the tail end of a new pc build so wasn't sure if I need to allocate funds to this within the next couple weeks or if this is a month or more out based on where I'm at in the list? Any insight is greatly appreciated! Keep up the great work guys!!!

Hey Miles, I'm relatively early on the mailing list but I'm running 2D. Specifically, I sit 26" from a 65" 4k monitor. (Ebayed my Rift. VR just not there yet for me). If you think I could fudge any degree of functionality with PointCTRL in its current state, I would purchase one and experiment with it then happily purchase any "add on" down the line when/if you adapt PointCTRL for Track IR.

Appreciate your thoughts on this and the strong work you've already put forth.

Hey Chic,

I am sorry, I know you asked about this before. I just tested out what you want to try, and it worked pretty well. I mounted the camera to a fixed position, above and behind my head. Calibration was identical to VR. The only difference is your arm should stay the same extended distance as you calibrate at. Its a pretty natural thing to do. If you have track IR you will have to hold your head still while clicking. If you mounted the HMS to your head I think the ratios would be to far off.

Thanks for being patient.

Miles

Hi Miles I just checked out your video and wanted to take a second to say WELL Done. This is an amazing feat from conception, design, production and the million or so steps in between. Very impressive.

Thanks,

Its been a lot more challenging and has taken a lot more time than I expected, Hope to ship the first few productions units on Friday. If everyone, or at least most everyone is happy with the functionality, it will have been worth it.

Hello Miles, I second the kudos. I know this has been asked, I can't seem to locate if you had a chance to answer.

I recently acquired the Pimax 5K+, will your CTRLPoint work OK with that headset, in that it has the angles.

Thanks again. Look forward to when my number is called.

David

Hey Dave,

Right now I have a generic mount that comes with EVA foam, ABS sheet plastic and extra double sided tape, that should work fine, but I plan on dedicated mounts for all of the headsets. The PCB just pops out so you can move it between units by buying extra mounts. Extra mounts will probably be about $10.00 USD.

Thanks

Miles

Hey FoxDelta,

Awesome work on your AV8 nozzle lever!!

The charging jack disconnects the FCU from power so it cant be used while charging. The FCU should last days if you are using it in time-out mode and will probable last 6 hours at 1/3 brightness and always on. As long as you plug it in when you take breaks you should be fine. You can also have spare batteries on hand if you really want to.

Thanks for the question,

Miles
