TM Warthog A/B Detent curve

Earlier this week I received a new throttle (Virpil).

My WH is now out of commision, and this list will not be updated by me anymore.

 

For those interested, I've setup curves for several afterburner aircraft so the afterburner detent of the TM WH matches up.

Personally can't stand not having a firm spot where the A/B kicks in :music_whistling:

 

Your milage may vary, so some personal adjustment might be required:joystick:

 

Set these up in the "Axis Tune" controls, for each throttle where applicable.

Set the throttle as "SLIDER" and "USER CURVES" and set the numbers as below:

 

 

DCS F-16C:

0-6-14-24-36-48-60-70-80-90-100 (MTFDarkEagle)

0-7-15-25-35-45-56-67-78-89-100 (Home Fries)

 

F-15C:

0-5-11-20-32-45-57-69-80-90-100

 

MiG-21BIS:

EDIT:

Here's another curve that allows for more linear application of stages 2 and 3 once you're past the detent.

0-8-12-16-28-40-52-64-76-88-100

Is there any benefit to adjusting the curve using this method as opposed to just adding a dead zone at the top end of the curve to match the detent to mil power? Been using this method for years.

The custom curve can provide linear movement before and after the detent, but unlike a dead zone can use the entire throttle range. This allows for more precision and even a shallower afterburner curve in some cases (allowing for even more precision between zones).

Can we have the new SU-33 PFM added to this since it is now out?

I tried using the SU-27 PFM curves on the throttles on the SU-33 and they seem to work fine in case anyone was wondering...

 

I used these for left and right throttle axis curves on the SU-33:

 

Su-27:

It's kind of funny that DCS World and Thrustmaster collaborated on working together, but didn't provide compatible programming for the AB detent!. It must have been a very loose collaboration indeed.

For the record, the A-10 doesn't have an afterburner and its throttle does not have a detent for one. They collaborated on making a controller for the DCS A-10C. At that time, there was no DCS World and the only fighter jets were in a separate game, LOMAC/Flaming Cliffs.

 

 

I have never liked controllers that attempted to model an afterburner detent. Unless it could be adjusted to match the requirements of each specific game, it would only work for games that followed some kind of industry standard.

 

 

The ability to easily remove/install the detent on the Warthog was a good idea. But what games have an afterburner setup that utilizes the Warthog's detent correctly? So I have never used the optional detent on the Warthog.

 

 

I really like the $1,000 authentic F/A-18 throttle I have seen posted here. But it includes fully functional detents identical to the real throttle. I would hope some sims can use it correctly with minimum modifications to the game for that kind of money.

It's not a matter of collaboration, it's just poor omission in DCS input options. Every joystick has the same issue, as each joystick type has detent in different place and every aircraft in DCS activates afterburner at different throttle position.

 

In BMS matching afterburner to a physical detent on the joystick is as easy as clicking one button in the joystick setup screen.
