DCS: P-47D-30 Discussion

Probably because in real life they could. At lower altitudes the FW had the advantage in acceleration speed and roll.

Yes but not in diving ability, although the FW-190 was also an excellent diver. Not quite as heavy as the P-47 but a bit more aerodynamic. The Bf 109 however was not a great diver. As I understand it quite a few planes could keep with the P-47 in the initial stages of a dive, but nothing could really keep with it when it got going.

Yeah well have to wait and see when it comes along. All that really defeats my dora is when the stang does a rolling climb. That if the stang has enough energy I cannot keep up with.

Know and use all the capabilities in your airplane. If you don't, sooner or later, some guy who does use them all will kick your ass.

Highly doubt an Anton could dive with a P-47 unless at a very low altitude. When it comes to diving the P-47 should be ≥ the P-51. The speed and dive advantage will be diminish because of the highly unrealistic late war opponents. However at high altitude the P-47 should still remain king. DCS needs B-17/B-24 escort missions for the P-51 and P-47. German pilots have had their fun with pointless low altitude turn and burn dogfights :).

Agreed. The jug will be the dive queen. If and when the Normandy map comes to fruition the 17 24 25 and 29 needs to be part of the sim. Hopefully it is accurate because there are quite a lot of 47s still flying with many registered aerobatic pilots.

I'm really looking forward to seeing the P-47 in DCS. It's one of my favourite planes of all time, and it's contribution was very much underrated. You can make a strong argument that it was the P-47 (mostly the razorback versions) that really broke the Luftwaffe, by the time the P-51 arrived on the scene in force the Allies already had largely won air-superiority. Fantastic BnZ plane, dives and zooms like crazy, unmatched performance at high altitude, excellent high speed manoeuvrability, great armament, tough construction.

As you say there are plenty still flying so knowing ED it will likely be an incredibly faithful representation.

Why need wind tunnels when there are plenty still flying that all ed has to do is pitch in for gas
