[ALL MODULES][SP/CO-OP] Liberation Dynamic Campaign

Recommended Posts

Liberation now seems to be recognizing the debrief files again after updating to 1.3.3.

New issue-Missions out of Soganlug always seem to fail. Killed all of the targets with no losses, Liberation is thinking that it was a failed mission.

Screenshot of what I'm getting below. AI doesn't like to land at Soganlug either.

Side note: just tried the cheat button, mission still shows as failed.

Even with the troubles I'm loving the concept. Thanks so much for working on this!

Whatever works for you. Mind sharing the direction of the attack?

Don't remember where I had it, but I think it was NW - Probably Senaki to Sukhumi. I think I had it for multiple NW-ly directions. (edit: confirmed Gudauta-Sochi)

Maybe the last param needs to be wrapped in abs()? (Or whatever its python equivalent.)

First off, I love this generator, I hope some comments can help improve it.

List of ideas to improve the generator:

- Air start aircraft speed should be a speed in TAS, for example: If you set a F-15 to start at say 15000 feet with a speed of 297 TAS his actual IAS start speed is like 150 or so.

- I noticed AI CAS units don't actually do anything, I ran into this issue in my own mission creations. My work around is to set most planes who are CAS, CAP, etc to search and engage in zones. I usually remove the CAS, CAP, SEAD settings. SEAD especially as your SEAD aircraft will just pick a target even not in the zone you want and go after that.

= Escort craft need a condition set to roughly the same duration of the plane it is escortings flight plan time. For example, if the flight path of the L=39 the mirages are escorting will take 30 minutes, then the stop condition for the Mirages escort should be about 30 minutes. I noticed the escorts spawn in but immediately turn to RTB.

- AWACs shouldn't spawn over enemy territory. I saw in your code you set for random within the AWACs range, but probably should be somewhere near or in between the base of operations and the target area, preferably closer to the base. When your flying escort for say a C-130 I noticed the attack aircraft often ignore the C-130. I haven't done an intercept role in mission editor before but there might be a setting to tell it to attack target. Might also need to remove roll of interceptor if there is one to force it to do what it is meant to do.

- I noticed CAS sometimes spawn almost on top of the FEBA while CAP is sometimes still 60 miles enroute. I didn't see where you coded this part so not sure if you know of an easy way to make this better matched. With CAS not attacking ground targets at the moment it doesn't really matter. But if you fix CAS to search and engage in zone then CAP will need to have a chance to stop the CAS units.

- Not sure how you decide where the FEBA line is, but I noticed on the Caucasus map that tanks travelling through forests are nearly impossible to do CAS support against. If there is a way to pick spots that are more open on that map it would be nice. To bad trees don't break and sway when a tanks moving through a forest to see its location visually. At least then I could pick a spot to drop a CBU-97 :)

Anyways, keep up the awesome work on the generator, look forward to see it evolve.

Not sure if anyone has mentioned this yet, but whats up with the weather?

70 knot winds every mission!!!

Little insane...

The varying weather conditions are one of the things that really sets this generator apart and one of the challenges that I really enjoy though it would probably be beneficial to impose some limits on how bad things can get.

I was just thinking of something I posted earlier regarding tanks in the forest that are impossible to find. One other option would be to place a zone the size of the FEBA to remove all trees.

Since ED has this option in the ME, maybe if they could also add an option to just thin out the trees by a user set percentage. I'll go suggest in the wishlist cause it might be overall useful :)

Totally loving this campaign.

Thank you so much for taking the time to make it.

I'm flying the Nevada version at the moment. Nice starting off in the top left corner. Slowly making my way down is making me learn the map.

For anyone else interested flying both A-G AND A-A missions in the Hornet (or other aircraft) I've been a bit sneaky.

I've got 2 versions of the db file in the game folder. If I fancy a bit of A-G action I rename the current default db to "db AA" and delete the suffix AG from the "old" db AG version. Now when I load up the generator the Hornet is available to fly in the A-G missions.

CAS: [

MiG_15bis,

L_39ZA,

FA_18C_hornet,

AV8BNA,

AJS37,

A_10A,

A_10C,

Su_25,

Su_25T,

Su_34,

Ka_50,

],

I do however find it essential to totally edit the missions for more variety. For example I add attack Helos and static SAMs for the Hornet to take out while assisting the A10s and Harriers.

I also split the flights up. Some attacking N-S and the others the default S-N.

Keep up the good work - it would be GREAT to add mixed missions as other have suggested, and for the rather limted (for now) Hornet maybe interdiction missions to take out a building or two placed "around" one of the airfields.

Hello, I am new to the campaign but I am experiencing a glitch where pretty much everything is on fire. It doesn't seem to include the missions targets and the campaign runs as it should its just that everything is on fire like certain structures and airbase emplacements. Seemingly random vehicles on highways are destroyed as well. This happens the moment I load into the mission and I can't find anyone experiencing this issue. Any ideas?

Also I wanted to see if I could remove aircraft from the campaign, I was kinda aiming for a cold war era dynamic campaign without the flaming cliffs aircraft or M2000. If thats possible I'd like to know how to do it.

Smoke:

- See frontline marker in app map

- See mission planner before starting a mission

They're placed there deliberately.

Removing aircraft:

Based on a quick look at the files;

Removing them outright will be hard. They'll have references all over the place.

I suggest trying dcs/db.py - the prices array, setting the price of the planes you don't want to 9999.

This defines both price for the player (although only aircraft listed in CAP/CAS/Transport/Armor/AirDefense roles will be purchasable)

and prioritization for the enemy (i.e. less important bases will receive units with lower price)

"""

PRICES = {

So some feedback and results from my personal single-player experience:

I had a frontline attack mission between Soganlung and Kutaisi. Units from both sides started driving toward eachother( as intended) except if there was a hill between two of them, they'd never see each other and just keep driving. Secondly, It seems they'd all prefer to take the forest route, which makes them near impossible to find/hit. Many trees were greeted by their new maverick friends that day.

Next I tried an escort mission today and the C130 spawned at too low of an altitude that he ended up crashing within the first 30 seconds of the mission. I've noticed that most aircraft spawned by the generator here are set to the default altitude of somewhere between 6600 and 7000 feet.

The escort mission I flew was between Beslan and Soganlung, which is a very mountainous region...

A small FIY on what's next: https://imgur.com/a/Y7zOVta + lots of fixes.

I'm really busy with the day job ATM, so progress is pretty slow.

Also big thanks to Khopa for the UI overhaul!

Thanks anyway and take your time ! Just started playing it and it really is amazing to me what people is willing and able to do in their free time for our hobby.

Awesome job !

Just tried this out a bit, this is exactly what I needed! Sometimes I can’t devote a ton of time to figuring out what I want to do, and I fly really late from time to time and can’t fly multiplayer otherwise I would disturb my sleeping family.

Here’s my personal wish list:

-custom load outs through the UI, with economics. Would be amazing to have to budget out weapon loadouts along with equipment, some things can be pretty expensive to carry in (litening pods, for example, cost 1.5 mil or so).

-difficulty settings in the ui. Would be awesome to have an even harder mode, forcing you to have to purchase the cheaper aircraft and ordinance before moving up. I know stuff like this can be tweaked in the settings but having it in the UI would be really convenient

-multi-role missions. I know this is on the list, but figured I would throw it in here. For example, the Mi-8 and Huey can do ground attack gunship roles, so missions with that in mind would be nice

-ability to add modded aircraft. If this is already present, then disregard, but I was looking for a way to use the MB339 and could not figure it out. With the A4 coming it will be even more handy to have that feature

That’s all I can think of for now, thanks for building this awesome application!

Smokes are pretty much just a visual thing, they're placed randomly along front lines to represent, ahem, frontlines.

When you attack the airbase they are also placed randomly, based on total strength of that base (lower - more smokes).

Regarding the aircraft modifications - you can pretty much remove everything from game/db.py that mentions the aircraft in place. Also refer to modding guide, which covers adding the aircraft, and gives the general idea about which section does which (https://github.com/shdwp/dcs_liberation/wiki/Modding-tutorial#add-a-unit-to-the-campaign). I might write a proper guide for this later.

Just did an intercept on Persian gulf...for some reason, all of the enemy fighters died shortly after spawning in, leaving only one unarmed enemy aircraft. I assume it may be an altitude thing; everyone seems to want to fly really low.

This was the full start, I did an intercept yesterday with quick start and this wasn’t a problem, everyone spawned at a much higher altitude

New update: https://github.com/shdwp/dcs_liberation/releases/tag/1.4_rc1

Strike operations are available only for a western part of Caucasus at the moment. They're placed manually, so it's pretty tedious (but much more believable than random), and it'd take a lot of time to cover the maps completely. Anyone wants to help me out with this? Also I don't really know how exactly this kind of stuff are placed on the battlefield, so any comments regarding the placements are welcome, especially before I've completed the bulk of the work.

Next thing, apart from finishing with the strikes, would probably be expanded heli operations.

Changelog:

  • strike operations - perform bombings of infrastructure buildings, enemy bases and warehouses
  • support for multirole aircraft - now any aircraft can be assigned to any flight
  • updated AA units selection
  • new UI by Khopa
  • number of bugfixes

Just tested out the new version. New UI is killer, really helps with making things pop. Also really digging the fact you can now assign aircraft to any role; I just flew an attack mission and used my F5s to do the CAS, and just modified the loadouts in the mission editor.

I do have a possible bug though, not sure if it’s related. Before the update my flight was always on 305, which wasn’t a big deal even though the briefing said 251. Now, I tried both frequencies and they wouldn’t respond. Not sure if it’s a bug in your application per se, but just an odd quirk I noticed now

Thank you so much shdwp, this dynamic campaign is basically all I do nowadays in DCS. I eagerly await each update. Will share your work on Hoggit so more people are aware!

Cheers and thanks again. You're doing the Lord's work.

What type of mission did you attempt? Usually, if plane support the task in the Editor, it should load appropriate loadout from the start. It kinda gets more complicated, since there are few main tasks in the campaign related to A2G - CAS, Anti-Ship, Ground Attack. And there's also specific issues with specific planes.

Also I had the same issue with radios, will fix in next update.

I attempted a frontline attack mission. To be honest, I didn’t actually even pay attention to the loadout before modifying it, nor did I try the mission without modifying. I will try it again today at some point and see what loadout I end up with.

*edit* I just loaded up a fresh mission and can confirm that you do get a 4 mk82 loadout for the F5. My personal opinion is that its better to take some rockets instead of all bombs, but either way at least the loadout is working on a role specific basis.

Cool. You can actually change the default loadouts editing the db.py file so you don't have to change them every time: https://github.com/shdwp/dcs_liberation/wiki/Modding-tutorial#change-default-load-out-for-the-aircraft

Although it feels that some kind of selection should be in the application anyway. I might add that later.
