Can't get AI "follow" action to work properly

I created this mission where I have a couple of F-16's follow the player (F-18C) (giving the player the impression he's being escorted).

 

The idea is to have these F-16's follow the player until the player reaches INGRESS waypoint 3. So in the special waypoint action for the escorting F-16's, I set "follow player" (in this case named F-18C) until waypoint 3.

 

This however doesn't work and the F-16's keep following me all the way back to base...

 

 

I thought this might be caused because the player will probably never fly directly over the exact waypoint. So I also tried with a trigger zone. Create a flag once the player enters the zone and set a stop condition to the escorting F-16's when that flag is true. But that didn't work either as the F-16 didn't follow me at all...

 

Any ideas/suggestions are most welcome.

Maybe this is working

 

Tanker/F18 waypoint 1 - 2 - ABU MUSA

 

F16 - follow the tanker to tanker waypoint 2

F16 - switch to F16 waypoint 1 and land at Sirri

 

Ah yes, sorry, forgot to mention it requires Syria :doh:

 

Does your setup also work if you replace the tanker by an aircraft set as "player"?

Unfortunately - no

F18 - player - I passed waypoint 2 - the F16 are still following

 

With AI units it was ok

My example was a test for another user thread some time ago

 

Yeah, that's what I expected :(

 

I know the "follow until waypoint X" function works well on AI. Just wondering how to end the follow action, when having AI follow the player's aircraft.

(Although I don't want the escort to RTB. I want them to stop following and establish an orbit)
