Storm of War - DCS WWII / Historical Server

Hello, gents. Some questions.

- Bots(fw190) sometimes stuck\freeze in air, and then teleport. Is it normal thing?

This is no intentional. Probaly a problem with net code or ping at the time.

- is ground units resurrection after some time?

No. If a mission does not have enough units to attack, let me know, I can always add more.

Hi, Philstyle,

Great work been flying on the servers now, that my ISP has finally fixed my issues,

Love the work man, great job on the maps.

I only have one grip and thats with unit covered in the trees. how come they can fire

through the trees when covered and the trees not stopping the rounds?

and I was given a mission to destroy a unit at GH21 and there was nothing there.

and radio coms on the units not working?

Thanks once again for your work.

I can't wait to see more.

Hey Mastiff! Nice to see some 71st tags on the server, its like old times :)

Firstly, it's proably best to ask detailed questions etc over on the SoW forums - there's quite a bit of mission-related discussion going on over there.. But I can answer these ones here.

OK, so the issue with units firing through trees is a DCS problem, and not a server-only thing.

I generally try to place units is "sensible" locations. I know on some servers, the ground units are just placed in the middle of open ground, exposed to all sorts of attack that no commander in their right mind would normally tolerate!

I try to build unit formations that use the terrain and the local landscape features in a semi-realistic manner. So, a column or unit will disperse around open ground by hugging the treeline, like in the image below. Whilst this is, in my opinion, more "realistic" it does mean that problems with the base game such as line-of-sight through trees become more glaring. But for now its just something we have to live with.

and I was given a mission to destroy a unit at GH21 and there was nothing there.

What map/ mission was this on?

The units should be there.. but sometimes it takes a little effort to find them. Check roads in particular, and look for vehicles parked along tree lines.

Worst case scenario, you can open up the mission from the downloaded ntrk file and check in the mission editor exactly where they are.

and radio coms on the units not working?

I've noticed that radios seem to need to be set up on the ground before takeoff. There is nothing different in the way I have the server set up, to the way any other server is set up....

Unfortunately I can't explain why any individual players might have issues...

its was the monte map, the radios as far as I know for the P15's and spitfires you have to assign them in the ME.

its was the monte map.

Make sure you read the briefing very carefully on the monte-cassino map.

The brief says to take a T-51 unarmed trainer to conduct recon of the target areas first. Until the recon is done, the unit locations will not be known.

the missions are cool...but...messing with the views server side, causes several people i was flying with to have problems so they cant fly on your server...the AI in general is also nice, and the airfields are also populated nicely...having AI fighters though is a pain i think...nevertheless overall its a more immersive server then burning scheiss...

in the 109 specifically...they cant look through the gunsight, and or sit too far left iirc. and dont seem to be able to change it...i think messing with the views is problematic because of such sideeffects, especially for planes like the 109 where you can change seat position between auto, cruise and gunsight in the options menu.

and interesting enough, even i had trouble last time when i joined with my rift in the 109...was sitting on the left window pretty much and it recentered there as well, today though it was ok for me.l

Hmm.. i don't see why restricting the max and min FoV values should have that result. All the other values for the 109K9 are the same as default. All we have done is take a little off the top and bottom of the FoV ranges.

One of our admins has the 109K4, I will ask him to look at this.

It is not only for 109, this issue is here for 190 too.

I do not use any kind of trackir system and when i chose 190 or 109 head position is in the middle of cockpit, on your server, so only way to see through gunsight is move camera to right and save a new cockpit angels. It change FOV not really usefull way.

OK thanks.. I might need to return the FoV in the BF109 and FW190 back to default. strange.

Saburo, Can you do me a favour?

Can you go into DCS\Mods\aircraft and go into the folders for the 109 and the 190.

In there you will see file called view.lua

open that file with notepad or notepad ++

In the file, there is a section called ViewSettings = {

This section goes for 22 lines

Can you copy and paste that section for me here, or in a PM, or send me a copy of your view.lua files?

Then I can look to see what might be going on. Our FW190 and Bf109 admins say thy do not experience this issue. So it might be a player-specific thing....

hi,

have no idea how to send file in PM, so here are both files..

PM can contains only 1000 characters, so it is impossible to just copy text from view files into PM.

Views 190.lua

I've looked at Saburo's two .lua files.

Everything is exactly the same as our Admin uses in his own DCS folders . .

The only line we have edited on the server is

CameraViewAngleLimits = {20.000000,140.000000},

We changed the lowest value from 20 to 30 and the highest value from 140 down to 105, so it is this

CameraViewAngleLimits = {30.000000,105.000000},

The guy who is an admin on our server, who flies both the 190 and 109 reported this:

For me it is not a problem. However, I suspect I know the cause of it. The Field-of-View relies on the monitor resolution, the zoom, and the camera position (6 degrees-of-freedom). With most of the aircraft, the position is set up once, you save it (typically with RAlt + Num0) and then it defaults there or if you re-centre the view.

The Bf 109 K-4 is somewhat different in that the gunsight can be folded down. When this happens, the camera position moves to the left to put you on-axes again. What this means, is that when you set up the default camera position, you need to bear this in mind. I set mine up on the gunsight-view and adjust from there. But if you have an unusual monitor resolution, or have not set this correctly, it might lead to problems.

I have just tested it, and it all works fine for my setup. I tried the 109 is a host of different positions and these were without problem. I have also done a series of test images for some of the possible aircraft/view combinations. Basically you can put the camera position on the centre-line © or gunsight-line (g), zoomed fully in (i) or out (o) and with the camera position fully forward (f) or backward (b).

hi,

here are my views immediately after spawn, did not touch any head or camera movement and no zoom. Only for 109 i hid gunsight.

  • 2 weeks later...

SoW is testing a new compilation of WW2 mods on the server this weekend.

If successful we will integrate this mod pack on a permanent basis.

It allows us to have lots of nice new toys (A.I. aircraft, ships, player and AI grounds vehicles and new skins) in the mission, as provided by some talented madders in the DCS Community.

Hopefully testing will be complete this weekend, then we will open back up for public players.

Phil, will it be OVGME friendly?

Mostly.

To get it to work, I needed to add one extra folder in the installation: "Mods".

Currently, it unpacks to "SoW DCS WW2 modpack November2018 -> aircraft/liveries/tech" when it should be "SoW DCS WW2 modpack November2018 -> Mods -> aircraft/liveries/tech".

I unpack into the JSGME_MODS area in my SavedGames, add the Mods folder and then move the other folders into that.

It was pretty easy but still, I'll with speak with Phil about it and see if we can make it even more JSGME/OVGME friendly.
