From how I understand it A/T in the F14 works differently from the F18. In the F14 the A/T is working to keep you on AoA (in the E bracket) whereas the F18 A/T is only working to keep your airspeed constant. I find AT quote useful even when doing a case 1 recovery without ACLS.
