Is it that poorly optimized? Oh, man..

It's probably a collusion with Nvidia to help them move some of these overpriced new cards and restore their stock value.

Truth be told original the F-14 video is the one that drove me to buy a system and start flying DCS. I had watched some Reaper videos and was envious but when I saw the F-14 video and the carrier battle, I flashed to Red Storm Rising and made the call. The system below, 55 inch TV, Rift, second monitor with exported MFDs (I know the F-14 won't have that but I had fallen and gravity was in control)

So to answer your question............. I dropped everything for the F-14 :)

Yes just built a new pc. New case and board. Ryzen 7 2700X 16gb DDR4 3200mhz and trying running DCS on an M2 SSD for the first time. Not finished yet waiting on the M2. Taking the 1080Ti from my previous build. My previous system a i7 3770k and DDR3 memory I was struggling with VR with some modules and I know the F-14 would struggle as the Viggen does. So let’s see how this goes.

While not specifically only for DCS, I upgraded my rig. It was time, my old CPU was literally the first series of Core i5 :)

So, now it's an i7-9700K, RTX 2080, 32 GB RAM, 500 GB Samsung 970 in addition to my old 1 TB 950, X56 Hotas, TrackIR... it's marvelous, so looking forward to the F-14 now :D

Well while not specifically for the F14 but for DCS and VR in general the thing I dropped some cash on was a new 2080ti.

Everything I have done to my PC has been ultimately in preparation for the F-14 since they originally announced it. My time with DCS and other aircraft has been very enjoyable and a learning experience but in the end, was just to pass the time until the Tomcat release.

I recommend to add further 16GB of DDR4 RAM, DCS will like it...32GB for the least ;)

Will DCS use 32GB right now or are you future-proofing?

Yes I think your right, fortunately I have two 8gb sticks so I have two free slots. So it’s an option for me when I have some spare cash again. Do you have experience with M2 SSDs. I’ve just ordered a Samsung 970 EVO pci SSD. Can I expect better performance running DCS on this compared to previous SSDs or will it be much the same?

I´ve recently upgraded my Rick and installed 16GB DDR4 RAM which turned out to be way to less than what DCS wants to use. After installation of further stack of 16GB DDR4 RAM the performance increased and the RAM useage was optimized although even 32 GB sometimes reach the CAP.

I went all out on RAM and put in the max I can on my mobo, 64GB, did it for several reasons.

1) Future proofing.

2) Opportunity, it has recently been slashed in price, I originally had 32 in, and the same memory modules are over £100 less than when I bought the first 32.

3) Intend to make a ramdisk, which is still faster than any SSD.

4) With 64GB there will be no need for a page file at all, but some programs do throw up errors, some even refuse to run, if they detect you have no page file at all, in that case I'll put one on the Ramdisk to trick them, done this before, it works.

5) Set temp folders to the ramdisk, rather than writing to an SSD unnecessarily.

6) I've manually set the pre-load radius above 150,000 by editing the options.lua file in the user/config folder.

Plenty of good reasons to have more RAM than you THINK you need, it lets you do some neat tricks to make your system faster/cleaner.

I'll admit I did this.

To be fair, it was getting to be time, and the trigger was either going to be something I really wanted like the F-16 (who knows how long away from now), another...say...space game that is in forever alpha (that I'll probably need another new system for by the time it finally is out) or pull the trigger now on the F-14.

Felt like the F-14 was epic enough to deserve it. Now I just need to get each 2080ti they send me to stop failing.

They're still failing? Did you check the GPU (VRM) temperatures when they're running?
