Here is a mod for the great Mbot F-5 Dynamic Campaign : Desert Mirage 86

Update to Version 3 :

Changelogs :

-V3.1 : fixed error with KC-130 (sorry :( )

-V3 : Use new Mbot DCE version and KC-130 instead of S-3 Viking

https://www.dropbox.com/s/l50c8lz97hsv61a/Desert%20Mirage%2086%20v3.1.zip?dl=0

"Since 1984 the brand new Mirage 2000C is in service in the french Armée de l Air. After two years of training and working, the famous 1/2 Cigogne squadron is ready to be tested in a realistic environment. The Nevada Range is the good place to do that.

The French squadrons will be incorporated in a scheduled large-scale exercise simulating combat against Warsaw Pact forces in southern Nevada. Allied units from Nellis AFB are to conduct an offensive air campaign against current Soviet, East German, Polish and Czechoslovak air and ground threats in and around the Nellis Air Force Range. French’s 1/2 Cigogne Fighter Squadron will provide operational Mirage 2000C sorties to this exercise, while the EC 3/2 serves as pool for reserves."

This mod is based on the version 1.03 of the Mbot Desert Tiger 76 so it should work exactly like the original campaign. The air-ground task should be easier but the main Warsaw Pact fighter is now the Mig-23 instead of the Mig-21. Coop should work too.

All my tests were bugs free in single player with current DCS 2 version but please tell me if you have problems or if you find bugs in briefings !

Thanks again to Mbot whose great job allowed this campaign. And thanks to him to authorize me to publish this mod.

Full credit to Atonium83 for his incredible GC 1/2 Cigogne skin.

Part of the readme :

1. Extract the folder in the zip file to: "DCS World 2 OpenAlpha\Mods\aircraft\M-2000C\Missions". Ensure that the resulting folder structure is “...\M-2000C\Missions\EN\Campaigns\Desert Mirage 86\...”.

2. Open the file "DCS World 2 OpenAlpha\Scripts\MissionScripting.lua". Add two minus signs in front of line 16 "sanitizeModule('os')" and line 17 "sanitizeModule('io')". The code block from line 16 to line 20 should then look like this:

--sanitizeModule('os')

--sanitizeModule('io')

sanitizeModule('lfs')

require = nil

loadlib = nil

This modification has to be repeated after each update of DCS World 2 OpenAlpha, as each update reverts the file back to its original state.

WARNING: This modification will allow the execution of LUA code included in any downloaded custom mission that is potentially harmful to your system. Modification at your own risk.

3. Extract the GC 1/2 Cigogne zip file and copy/paste the folder in "DCS World 2 OpenAlpha\CoreMods\aircraft\M-2000C\Liveries\M-2000C" skin full credit to Atonium83 : https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/files/1806591/.

Known Issues :

- Mirage 2000C are not french in this campaign but US !

- Skins are no more altered by the new numbering system ( I disabled it :) )

- I didn't find skins for the Warsaw Pact Mig-23 (East Germany, Czech Republic)

So to revert this, just remove the -- and -- from those lines and it should revert the game back to it's original self and no need to worry about potential harm? Also how could this cause potential harm?

Regarding the MissionScripting.lua modification. I suppose a potential wrongdoer might add harmful code to a missions you download and play. What exactly would be possible I am not sure, I guess stuff like deleting files on your system and probably a lot worse. Removing the sanitization basically opens the door for this. In this case you should be mindful from where and whom you download and play missions. My code wont cause any harm to the best of my knowledge, if you want to believe me.

This mod is really cool, easy to install, but I noticed I had to run DCS as administrator and even run the BAT files with administrator CMD in order to allow the LUA to have write permissions.

Coop 2-player is working, but I'm getting 10-20FPS with CPU and GPU nearly idle. (I get 90FPS in other multiplayer missions)

It seems that DCS with so many 'active' objects in play kills the game performance, but I think that is a byproduct of the current DCS engine optimization. Almost as if the ACMI recording every track from every object is choking to entire game (don't quote me, i'm not a programmer).

(video recording)

Disabling Clouds in the MIZ file increased performance to 45FPS... which is now playable. I suppose that is related to the DCS 2.0.5 update that impacted performance.

Playing your campaign and enjoying so far, the russian EWR system is now down and the only remaining airbase they have is Tonopah so I am en route to victory.

However I notice something, I don't know if it is an AI issue or if it is something you can arrange in the mission editor :

The bomb loaded on the mirage 2000 for Strike mission are Mk82 wich need to be dropped in CCRP in the mirage. This is what I do and I stay well above the close air defense. However the AI Mirage do a gentle dive like if they use CCIP run (which is not appropriate for MK82 in the Mirage) go well within the range of the strela, igla and other shilka and of course get shot down a lot of time.

So the Mirage suffer from lots of loss mainly due to close Air Defense that could be easyly avoided while still performing the mission if they use proper CCRP technique and stay outside of the range of close air defense.

I'm not proficient in mission editor so I don't know if you can modify the AI logic to be sure they use the proper technique fitted for the bomb load they have and that would give them more chance to survive.

After destroying Pahute airfield I have a bug when I accept the mission : After typing y and Enter the window closed quickly without preparing a new mission... I took a quick screenshot and find bugs text :

https://www.dropbox.com/s/uhmml7df7gdicx3/Bug.jpg?dl=0

In my Desert Mirage 86 folder I found 3 files usually not there :

- camp_status.lua

- MissionEventsLog.lua

- scen_destroyed.lua

I had the same bug 3 times and never had it before :(

This seems to be a bug related to static objects. If a ground unit was destroyed, a destroyed static objects version (wreck) of it will be placed in future missions. The problem now seems to be that if a side does not yet have any other static objects, the wreck will be inserted into an in-existing table and trows an error. Did your problems start when a blue side ground unit was destroyed?

You can update the attached file in the \Scripts folder and try again.

I have updated my files for future releases. Thanks for helping finding this bug.

Quick question are you setting radio channels for radio green/red?

Becouse i am having some radio issues (btw on m2kc i've only done "official campaign" so i dunno how people are used to handle radio with dce+m2kc)

Thanks

Well usually I let the upper radio on the channel 1 (Flight channel)

and use the other radio to manually enter the airbase frequency at start then Awacs frequency when available after take off so that I have always the Flight comms and the Awacs at the same time !

so far i've flown 7 missions and it seems to me there is something strange.

I dont want to spoiler the campaign but:

first mission was an escort to a fab strike, no red planes on air so gg. (i was excited anyway, atmosphere + sam + AAA o target were  )

second miz same as before but i am in the strike package instead of escort (no reds on air and i was even more excited becouse i was blowing up things this time!)

third was a night recon escort, no reds and wingman starts to loose formation at about 25kft (if i go to 45 as planned it stays around 20k and 50 miles behind  )

here i started to think something was wrong with reds guys

forth miz was a strike escort again on ewr, no reds. ewr destroyed

mz 5,6,7 all night recon escort with no red planes on air... so i just stopped :D

is this normal? Strike missions are really fine becouse targets are like 5 minutes away from nellis, fast miz. But i am getting 60% recon escort? All of them with exactenly the same flightplan and target? It seems weird.

I've never seen a red plane flying in 7 missions

I don't know the specifics of this campaign, but lately the 1L13 EW radar stopped working in DCS. This might be the reason why you don't see any red air in this campaign. It certainly breaks all my own campaigns, as without early warning, red won't launch any interceptors.
