Maybe, it was quite a sharp pull up and the pilot might have increased throttle suddenly too

According to the incident report, the engine suffered from compressor stalls during the pull up ("... motorn pumpade kraftigt under upptagningen."), so yes, the flames could be related to that. Could be mixed with some afterburner maybe.
