Default MAC (Modern Air Combat) Discussion

It's been radio silence on the subject for a little while, I didn't know if there was any new information on the new title. Any updates would be appreciated. Kind of looking forward to seeing what they do with it.

I mean, 14 planes to fly sounds like an awful lot of fun.

Maybe you should sign up for the Weekly News Letter.

Chances are good they would give updates there if they have anything to share.

No info, but on this video you can see that Matt Wagner already is testing some Mac aircrafts, watch his dcs home icons:

So, its a matter of just being patient.

That wasn't released yet? I remember seeing it being mentioned on facebook probably over a year ago. This, The F14, now the F16! I want to buy it all.

I'm hungry for updates myself - it is the product I'm excited about.

I do hope they will revise the weapon release for existing aircraft though (e.g. being able to set burst heights for cluster bombs, ripples for MDBs - even if it can only be done by ground crews it is necessary for effective employment - especially as cluster bombs get different default settings to suit the F/A-18c, A-10C etc. - planes that can configure them in flight).

There is also hope that the success of MAC could lead us to see some new aircraft that won't get full fidelity models soon (e.g. Russian aircraft are deprioritised, as are Eurocanards - which can't really be modelled at full fidelity for legal reasons).

I’m interested to see how MAC turns out. The extended dev time also makes me think a lot of effort is going into it which is nice. I’d imagine attracting more casual players would have to mean pushing the VR aspect considering DCS VR is so awesome. The irony is that in VR a clickable cockpitis preferred so you don’t have a large amount of key binds.

Mind you with the new Jester F-14 UI being so good it would begreat if they implemented something similar in MAC. Maybe pushing the menu button just highlights different areas in the cockpit to turn your head to to active in a simplified menu form. That would keep things casual but at least move peopleinto the concept of working the panel areas should they move to DCS.

With low fidelity I would hope they can give us more modern craft. I imagine there are less restrictions when you dont need to have such detailed documentationon each aircrafts systems to model. I presume that more modern aircraft don’t give that info out so easily.

Id love to see them also do a helicopter version of MAC though I remember Gunship 2000 and Janes Longbow too fondly lol

It seems it hasn't been mentioned here yet, but in his guest appearance on the Alert 5 podcast Wags stated quite unambiguously, that MAC will be a standalone product.

Meaning that it has nothing to do with the DCS World? Not a module like FC3 but a standalone product?
