PointCTRL - Finger Mounted VR Controller

Recommended Posts

I think you guys are right at the about the audio for now. To FoxDeltas frustration, I screwed up the reset to defaults in the last update which caused a problem if you have a bad calibration. I am changing that now and adding some watchdogs to help prevent a bad calibration in the first place.

I have already done most of the Knee-boards and put them in a mission, so you just load up the "PointCTRL_Set Up.miz" and its all there.

Thanks again Mariner for the recommendation, I think its going to be a big help.

Miles

Update: New Firmware is up v062519:

Corrected factory reset;

HMS can be reset to factory calibration and settings by pressing and holding both black buttons on the HMS while pressing and releasing the white reset button. After successful reset the cursor will move from the left edge of the field of view, all the way to the right edge as confirmation.

Factory Calibration is for Rift S ,Full Screen, Stretched view, but it will get you close for all other V/R Headsets.

Thanks,

Miles

Provided feedback to MilesD - personally I’ve found the calibration with the latest firmware to be a good improvement on the previous version. I’d found the first approach difficult and never really got it to work well for me so a big thanks to MilesD for the update.

One point I also raised and worth sharing is within the calibration step 7 where you point to the cursor: left, right, top, bottom. I had originally thought that there would also be a cursor moving with the FCU movement but in fact, it doesn’t which confused me. It actually makes sense that it doesn’t as it’s about aligned where your hands think they are pointing to. Regardless - Miles is going to update this in the manual.

hi Miles , sorry i didn tfind the image attachment function in the PMs so i post the screenshot here, as mentioned after calibration the menu is centered in regard to left/right but for some reasons i doesn t get centered in height

the result is a flattened menu at the top of the screen, the circle is drawn as oszillating line

in fullscreen: if i reset and then try to recalibrate i never see the cursor in my rift/screen

so i have to recalibrate in windowed mode where the "menu height centering isn t working

hoping this picture helps

btw when trying edge calibration i never get my cursor into the upper half for calibration there

for me it looks like a mix up of the old calibration with the new split one. the lower half is calibratable but then cursor ends much lower than initially calibrated. looks like there is only the lower half available at all.

hmmm

Hey Fox,

Thanks for the pic ,its very helpfull. But I am a little confused by it. Is that a whole screen shot? If so, I certainly can see a problem.

PointCTRL uses your monitors x,y coordinates as a base for absolute coordinates, so I can certainly see how you would have the exact issues you are having. I am glad you bought this up in the forum as it may help others as we address it. Los uses PointCTRL with a 4K monitor with no issues because his image is stretched to fill the whole screen.

The same issues you are having would be experienced by those who use an expanded desktop. Ironically, the earlier firmware version would have allowed you to define your own box in the lower left hand corner of your monitor. I took out the vertical sizing of the cursor limits to simplify calibration because it seemed unnecessary. I can see I was wrong.

There are two solutions for this issue. You run your DCS window in full screen mode for now, or wait a few hours as I update the firmware and add the vertical sizing option back. It will work just like the left/right sizing but in the vertical. The default will be for the standard DCS window filling the screens vertical limits, but you will be able to size it down for your application. This is something I had to do anyway for another customer with a specific purpose.

I hope this helps,

Thanks,

Miles

Just read your latest post, Your Print Screen corresponds directly to the cursor behavior you are describing.

ok miles, yes before the fw update it wasn t an issue. i already tried to calibrate in fullscreen, but without seeing the cursors its kinda difficult. i already thought that the "desktop extended," could be a cause but switching to DUPLICATE didn t cure it either

Update: Spent the day on new firmware to fix a issue with Rift reporting as a second monitor and an expanded desktop. I don't know if it worked yet. I am sure FoxDelta is sound asleep on his side of the world. I added back in the vertical FOV limits step, but with the more intuitive interface. After a factory reset, you can just click right past it, if you don't need it.

I also cleaned up some button pressing during calibration so you dont click through them if you hold the FCU button down.

Adding a few more knee-boards tonight then its back to production (I hope)

I know this is taking a while, but I rather 1 or 2 people have these unforeseen issues than everybody.

Thanks,

Miles

Hey Miles, I didn't even know the CV1 could work like that! I remember it back in the days of the DK2 but I hadn't seen any options for it since then.

I completely agree and understand the delay. It may not ever be perfect, but fix the known bugs when you find them.

Being next on the list at #21 I am perfectly fine with waiting a bit.

Salute sir!

Hehe I wish I found this thread sooner. Then at least I wouldn’t be #101 ;)

Yea it definitely shouldn't be that way, I'm sure its a setting somewhere. But just in case anybody else has that issue, hopefully it wont be a show-stopper now.

thx miles, u made it

particulary the procedure to calibrate into the lower left corner was very helpful, in combination with the new vertical FOV calibration mode i was able to do an initial calibration there and further improve it thereafter in VR

EDGE calibration was doable for all 3 sectors as well.

its perfect now

hopefully we saved some time for others, especially doing screenshots with the end-resolution when in VR thereselves might be useful for others with multimonitor or similar, or my issue, to do an intial calibration at the right place while in 2D

many thx again for all your work and especially helping:helpsmilie: me:thumbup:

to all others, POINTctrl is a fantastic product and bringing direct cockpit interaction to a completly new level, every DCS-VR user should have one, its sooooo much of an improvement to be able to switch or turn knobs or pressing buttons( its accurate enough to use it for the DDIs/MPCDs) with any hand

@Firecat - Is there a way you could add a line to where we are on the waiting list? Maybe like a -------------between name #29 & #30 if the 'now serving' was currently #20-#29? It may just be an easier way for us to see where we are on the list with shipping instead of checking through the thread to see when the last group was announced. :)
