LtSpoon
Hello everybody, I'm just about to build an F-18 Simpit. Unfortunately, I can not continue with one thing. Which material do I take for the outer skin? On the picture below (pic 2) someone builds an A-10 Simpit. There he takes PVC plates, but which? I need a material that is malleable. PVC would be the right one. PVC, thin, formable without heating, plate goods But which .... and above all, available in Germany. Can someone give me a tip? Pic 1: My started F-18 Pit Pic 2: A-10 Pit from a another Pit Builder. PS: Sry for my bad english. School is a long time ago :) Thx ! Deadman
Take a look at Hansolo"s instruction page 32 he found [3mm] Masonite plate with white surface.in Europe His detailed instructions make be of help https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=159308 https://www.shapeways.com/shops/a-10c-warthog-supplies https://forum.dcs.world/topic/133818-deadmans-cockpit-base-plans/#comment-133824 CNCs and Laser engravers are great but they can't do squat with out a precise set of plans. Spitty
Compound curves are a pain.Bendable ply and a steamer might work.I work in aluminium so I use the English Wheel and Shrinkers/stretchers.

tomcat97
Some of my friends are very happy with this stuff: https://www.obi.at/kunststoffbedachung/kunststoffplatte-guttagliss-hobbycolor-rot-50-cm-x-25-cm/p/7687122 With some thermal treatment and patience complex curves become possible. You can check the Pitbuildersection in our forum. http://com.47df.com/dragonfighters-community/board87-technik/5097-bumerangs-cockpit/index9.html the XO [bumerang] and our CO [Viper] both made incredible things with this stuff - not only the external skin. ICEMAN 47th VFS DragonFighters Overviewpicture Simpit [bumerang] Edited January 24, 2019 by tomcat97
tomcat97
Appendix Bumerang used this material often for years. And he wrote despite all his experience this build was challenging. But I was very impressed about the result. Check the selfmade hobbycolor-glareshield... ICEMAN 47th VFS DragonFighters ==> Again Pics from XO [bumerang]s Simpit
MTFDarkEagle
Bendable ply and a steamer might work That's what I used. Thin plywood, I think it was 2mm thick. Using several wet towels and slowly but surely bent the material on the outside. tomcat97
Very very nice F-16 Pit from Viper! As a matter of form. The pics are all from our forum http://com.47df.com/dragonfighters-community/board87-technik/ and showing parts of the Simpit from our XO [bumerang]. But yes the CO [Viper] also built an excellent Viperpit. => as you can see in the Forum.... ICEMAN 47th VFS DragonFighters
Mr_Burns
Sorry to hijack but what color are people using for the outer skin and internal grey parts. Anyone in Australia suggest a shade of wall colour I could use for the pit. Also, do you guys get decals printed on line and delivered or make your own?
