High quality joystick with rudder axis?

Recommended Posts

Hey Community

I'm searching a high quality joystick with a rudder axis. The TM Warthog is the best stick I've ever tried but unfortunately I'm missing the rudder axis on the stick and I don't like to buy pedals.

So which stick can you recommend? :joystick:

Thanks for your advices and thanks for no "buy pedals"-advices :D

I believe VKB has shown their twist axis add-on (not certain if it is on market yet or not?), VPC is expected to be following suit shortly IIRC.

Those are also the two highest quality mainstream sticks available as well, they blow the Warthog out of the water.

All entry-level joystick (Logitech 3D PRO, T.16000M...) and Saitek's H.O.T.A.S. has "twist" rudder using low cost potentiometer = headache.

VKB Gladiator Mk.II (entry-level) has twist with contactless sensor MaRS (GMR) but this stick is available only in X-plane.org, flightsimcontrols (EU) and VKB China.

VKB announced - but no released yet - MCG PRO grips will have twist optional, to be released in next year (actually this twist is in patent process).

VirPil announced optional twist for their incoming Delta grip - to be released next year, using their proprietary contactless sensor (GMR).

Opera resume: For buy now, no "high quality joystick with rudder axis" is available. :joystick:

Hi sokol, bit off topic but i have defender cobra M5 grip collecting dust.

Would some basic model from VKB work with it ? I mean i would like to get good (or semi-good base for it) not lots of money to spend so cheap is nice too.

Thanks.

I hear you, I really preferred my X52 twist, seemed to give me more control than my pedals, I assume its a time thing and when I get a proper setup rather than desk and put some time in with the pedals I will hopefully not want to go back.

There must be a reason aircraft that are now fly by wire dont use twist grip sticks, its probably because you, like myself who never owned a set of pedals and never flown except for 2 glider lessons, find pedals feel odd?

Perhaps its like learning a manual car after driving an auto? Like muscle/brain memory needs reprogramming?

Just a though on the subject, have no answer to your question, sorry.

Thanks for your answers so far

Currently it looks to me that I'll get myself a VKB Gunfighter MCG PRO with stick extension and optional twist adapter. The stick should be available on 15. December, the twist adapter later...

VKB-Sim Gunfighter Pro ‘Modern Combat Edition’ w/ MCG PRO Grip (3-pin Rev.B)

  • MCG PRO grip (3-pin Rev.B)
  • Gunfighter Base (Rev.B)
  • Stick Extension Kit (Rev.B)

Problem is that VKB 3 wires connection used in their actual joysticks make then incompatible with Cobra M5 5 wires.

A year or so Baur make a upgrade option for this stick, metal gimbal and optional electronics and should be the logic choice. But as M5 was discontinued (be Defender) seems this kit is no longer produced.

Anyway keep an eye in il2sturmovik.ru "flea market" section, eventually appear there.
