PointCTRL - Finger Mounted VR Controller

Recommended Posts

Did anyone found out yet what exactly causes Windows 10 to create those additional monitors?

I thought the problem somehow got solved with one of the latest Win10 updates as I didn't have the issue for a very long time. But yesterday, all of a sudden my PointCTRL got stuck in the upper left corner again and I had to disable 5 freshly created imaginary monitors...

I think it happened when I restarted DCS, but that could have been a coincidence

No. I had to disabled these virtual monitors again, too.

DEVICES: ASUS 27" LCD | TrackIR 5 | LukeClip | Quest 3 | PointCTRL | Virpil HOTAS | MFG Crosswind | TableMount MonsterTech

MODULES: To much to list. But I stopped buying more, because of too much bugs in e.g. A-10C(II). @ED: Fix the bugs and I spend money on modules again. Promised.

Smoke 1-1 does a great job explaining his his work around here https://discordapp.com/channels/608478274472902656/700421269144731761/713517091659186198.

I wonder if this is a windows bug or if the 4 virtual monitors are created for a reason?

Does anyone know if USPS is actually delivering internationally during this period? My tracking says ‘Shipping label created - USPS awaiting item’. This was on the 21st May. So not sure sure what’s happening here.

On a different note, how is the production and supply situation going? Been a while since the last update and was wondering.

Thank you,

Harry Voyager

Hey Harry,

Still waiting on parts and the new bare PCBs. I also ordered 100 of v1 PCBs, just in case there any issues with v2 that would cause further delays for those not wanting to wait.

I do have plenty of Aux Push Button kits ready to go. Just email Carol at orders@pointctrl.com with the subject line: Order-APB. In the body add the country being shipped to. It looks like the $4.50 USD international shipping option is working, $3.95 shipping for the U.S. buttons banks are 12.50 each and $25.00 for the pair.

Thanks,

Miles

Better get saving then!!

Out of curioisty Miles.... will it fit on an Oculus DK2?

DK2.jpg

Hey Jack,

All kidding aside, I have never tested it on a DK2, but the generic mount should work. You should be able to pick up a CV1 or other 1st gen VR pretty cheap now. Upgrading the DK2 may be a better cost/benefit for enjoyment than buying PointCTRL, or maybe even think of saving for a Rift S

Just a thought,

Miles

have you made a test of the buttons? How many clicks will they be able to perform before they don't respond anymore? Are there any values available?

What an imagination: Miles sits there and pushes the buttons thousands of times for hours. Oh, man. Really? Some people have some pretty strange standards.

If there are datasheets where the manufacturer of the button gives information about it, that's one thing. But Miles doesn't do it for work.

I've had my PointCTRL for almost a year and no problems. I'm not the power user, though. And even if they would break now, I would probably buy them again.

Watching these Videos and listening to these click sounds really made me wonder how long they will last, don't get me wrong, it is just so that Videos doesn't necessarily represent the reality, that is the very simple Reason I asked for...so why is that an invalid question, I dont get it? Aren´t you questioning certain things before you buy anything?

The last part of your answer would have been the only part you should have been written as it gives exactly the answer to the question I asked for.

They will last just fine. I’ve been using my PointCTRL very regularly since I first got it last august and I have had zero problems. The buttons to not feel cheap or at all give you the impression they would fail any time soon. If you look at most micro buttons like this from electronics suppliers they usually have design lives of 100,000 actuations or more. And regardless, if any of them should fail I’m sure Miles will be able to help you out.

Hey Memphis,

Here is the link for the PointCTRL buttons we use.

https://www.mouser.com/ProductDetail/Apem/ADTSM21NV?qs=iGLABakYCr9C63u7gEYeSg%3D%3D

It says 1,000.000, but that is not accurate. The data sheets as kaltokri mentioned, has more accurate info. You have to drill down into the data sheet a bit. We use the 160gf buttons so the electrical life is 200,000 presses. Like Deano said most tactile switches are between are 100,000 and 200,000 presses. I looked for longer life switches with this form factor but it was a no-go.

If a button fails, its a simple replacement with a soldering iron, or you can send it back for repair. Probably easier if I just send you out a few replacement buttons.

Thanks for the question,

Miles

I got lucky; my computer was on a power strip that was actually rated for this kind of power surge....which is lucky because I didnt actually intend on buying a surge protected outlet. Got what I paid for though...
