Any gains overclocking GPU?

Recommended Posts

I noticed on my older gaming rig and my recent build that I certainly gained performance in DCS with the CPU overclocked. I thing by now that is common knowledge. What Im not certain about is overclocking my GPU? I have not seen any performance increase in the past with any of the GPU's I have had, and that hold true with my 980 Ti Hybrid. I spent quite a few days getting the most i could out of this GPU, then ran tests again in DCS and there was no noticeable difference that I could see. Is this typical Im wondering?

Hi, according to sticky thread "2016 hardware benchmark" with DCS 1.5.2, when you play in WQHD a 980Ti and a 970 do the same job (980Ti is 1% faster than 970). Playing 4K shows 30% difference between 980Ti and 970.

So at the resolution you use I understand you should not see much improvement by OCing your gpu.

Hmm, I can see a direct proportional FPS increase, either with my 980GTX and even 1080GTX-Ti when I crank it up 10% GPU speed ( 980GTX from 1350-->1500MHz ).

The effect was more visible with my 980GTX, as my 1080Ti is so overclocked from Asus that I can only add ~50MHz, from 1987-->2025MHz, so there is only a 1-2fps increase due to the small OC-factor ( tho still linear, as long as your CPU can feed the GPU all the time )

Well, I do see the performance difference using Heaven Benchmark, but my frame rates while comparing Default settings to OC'd settings in DCS are not noticeably increased whatsoever. Not even by 1 FPS,,,

These results (benchmarking) with 1.5.x DCS are understandable, mostly because the old engine (edge?) in 1.5 suffers from "low gpu usage". (fps getting bad while gpu is not highly used in %)

So when a gpu is not well exploited, overclocking it don't change much, and so the differences are only noticeable when the system is strugguling by pushing settings or resolution high.

I bet, Fakum, that eventual fps increase is more noticeable with 2.2 NTTR ?
