Default AGM62 Bomb vs Missile

Why is it that AGM62 is under bomb, but the other glide bombs (AGM154) are under missile?

I was wondering the same, I think AGM means "air to ground missile", isnt it?

It's a misnomer.

They called it AGM when they started developing it, then they realized it didn't make sense, but the deed was done. I think they officially refrained from using that designation, though, using "Walleye" (I & II) and "Guided weapon, MK X" instead.

Air to Ground Misnomer? It has a ring to it and might catch on

Glide ordinance is it’s own thing, got its own (excellent) brevity code and everything

fox X - AA Missile
Rifle - AG missile
Magnum - anti-radiation

And of course, Pigs away for gliders

DCS-wise I vote for moving it to missiles to be consistent with the AGM-154s.

I would also like to have consistency between the JSOW and the Walleye. Either they are both missiles or they are both bombs.

But then they used the same designation again for the AGm-154 JSOW.

...and the USAF used "F" for the 117, while it should have been an "A" or perhaps a "B". TL;DR: don't expect things to be logical or consistent.

JSOW have a rocket booster so they are launched as if they were missiles.

Walleye don't.

I think that is the idea behind being in different categories.
