Official 'What If' Thread

  • ED Team

So most of us know all about the trouble going into getting the needed documents for the P-47, and work is still going on to find what is needed. But lets look beyond that. ED has some plans for future modules, I cant get into but what would YOU like to see next as a flyable WWII era module from ED?

Please keep the discussion on topic, and post what you would like to see ED do.

- A radial engined Fw-190 variant, preferably the late ground attack Fw-190F8/9 or Fw-190G8 fighter bomber that fit well into the the existing planeset.

- F4U-4. I know M3LLC is already developing a F4U-1D, which will hopefully be released some day, but the late war F4U-4 would be a much better fit for the BF-109K and Fw-190D9 and it would be great for Korea scenarios with the MiG-15, F-86 and P-51.

- A late twin engined fighter. P-38L, F7F, Mosquito

Since I'm flying ww2 on daily basis and we have Normandy map along with ground units complementing it I think it would be reasonable to ask for plane-set that suits this map and conditions. A coherent plane-set so to speak.

Something that fits early to mid 1944 ?

I also remember it was mentioned that there would be 190 A-8 in development as an Ai, if so and you are putting an effort to make a model of it then why not go a step further and make it a completely flyable module ?

What I think should work fine and enhance the experience of Normandy is:

- P-51B (with malcolm hood preferably)

- Hawker Typhoon

- FW-190 A-8

- Bf-109 G-6 AS / ASM

- Mosquito (a great first step into multi engine aircraft)

- Ju-87 G

- Me-410

Either way, very nice of you to ask for an opinion of what is required.

IMHO it´s time for some ground attack planes/bombers.

Allies:

A-20

B-17

Axis:

Me-110

He-111 or Ju-88

Bf-110 G4 with Spanner and SN-2, maybe Schräge Musik too. For obvious reasons...

Do-335: NEED MOAR SPEED

Ta-152 H: NEED MOAR ALTITUDE

Do-217 So we can carry the Fritz X guided "glide" bomb

Or in general any german night fighter

Also, some Yaks might be nice too or La-7 or something similar.

In addition, Spitfire Mk. XIV or something like that would be amazing.

After we discuss often witch Setup is workable in Terms of DCS Time and Recourses, and looking in the other Simulations why there are more Players....

DCS is lacking more substantial Setup of Planes...

Should get go from the current Planes at First for short Time Period of Development, my Wish list:

P-51 1944 Version

Fw-190A G/F for Ground Pounding and more reasonable 1944 Setup

Bf-109G6 ASM same Reason

Hawker Tempest/P-38 for Ground Pounding (replacement for P-47 :(

Later one Mosquito Me-410

B-17 or Ju-88 only fly small part of the Players in every other Simulation...don't see this bring us anywhere...

I agree with MAD. Modify existing aircraft to better fit the map.

Otherwise P-38 would be cool to have.

And since he can’t post here anymore: David says 109 F-4. TBH I wouldn’t complain about this either.

P-51B/C, even with V-1650-7 (sale is not required, i want that plane soo much :) )

than Fw 190A/F models ( A-8 / F-8, may be better -9)

than Bf 109G-14 or G-10

than perhaps Typhoon/Tempest

would be nice to see in DCS World two engines planes, but necessary time for theirs development put them far behind planes i mentioned above, for me

+1

Also a mid-44 Spitfire XIV and we could use a couple of FLYABLE twin engine med bombers like a B-25 or 26, a Mosquito and a German twin engine, a Bf-110 or a Ju-88 maybe.

Never mind the four engine bombers, we need a map for them first as much as I want them.

If P-47 is delaying, Me262 which should also come aside… Trying to be realistic in spite of useful planes for current environment, I think…

P-38J maybe L, definitely, we need a twin

P-51B but also A, maybe A-36, as "easy" straightforward ones

Also earlier Spits as possible straightforward development, Vb and I, also XIV

Earlier 109 variants, 1943 G-6, G-14, and maybe G-2 and F variants but only if we had suitable allied matches (OISAM hereafter),

Radial Fw190 variants, sure, A-8, A-5/6, earlier than that again OISAM

Tempest, yeah, Typhoon OISAM

Would love to see La-5FN and Yak-9T in DCS level, others OISAM.

Would love Emil if we had Spit I-Hurricane, and a wider Channel map

Keeping Europe maybe Fiat G.55, and/or Mc205, better OISAM

Dunno, don't want to look greedy, I would ask everything, not to mention Pacific ones, F-4U1D - a6m5c, F-4F-3/4 - a6m2/3, F-6F sure… but always bearing in mind available matches/theatres and useful aircraft so people don't complain about "balance" and possibilities in-game.

I would love a bomber, though I'm aware probably not a very popular choice. B-17, B-25, Ju-88, Mosquito (as a bomber?), A-20.
